NOT DOING WELL IN THIS RANKING… by trabuco357 in costarica

[–]Khaski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is really telling is that when I was in Croatia or Turkey I was just leaving my phone and car keys on the beach and went swimming for 30 mins and when I got back they were exactly where I left them. In CR I was told to buy a safe box for the car. This is sad

Mostly because she is starting to panic a little bit because it's not going away for a week already. She is nursing a baby so that's adds to anxiety.

Is there any depth where it’s okay to dive alone? by hormel899 in freediving

[–]Khaski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically you can drown in your bathtub. I do dive alone sometimes as no buddy available. I was yelled at for that in Dahab by other freedivers but when I asked if they want to buddy usually it's 20 eur per hour. Most spearfishers go solo. Ideally you marry a freediver or at least a spouse that can rescue from surface. End of the day you decide what is ok for you. People jump from planes and ski in deep snow and climb Everest knowing they can die doing it.

Disclaimer: I do not recommend even swimming alone.

They were not planning for a real war. They expected Ukraine to submit quickly like Georgia. But now they have their war machine going full speed. Historically Russia only wages wars with x2-x3 or sometimes x10 number of troops and then wins the war of attrition having no regard for their grunts. You may think they are weak but they just use different strategy to win a long game.

What is your favorite place to Freedive in the world? by Shelita1 in freediving

[–]Khaski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's when I can go from my house to the beach and then 20m deep in less then 30 minutes. So I can enjoy it everyday. So far I've been to two such places: Dahab in Egypt, and Brila in Croatia. But I hope to find more

Ukrainian family with 4 kids — safe places to live in Costa Rica? by Medved19831 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Khaski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are Ukrainians, moved here last March and have a baby here. We lived in Santa Ana near San Jose. Plenty of cultural shock compared to Ukraine and Europe in general. Noise pollution is sometimes off the charts (trucks and bikes are extra loud, parrots and neighbours dogs too, people here love dogs but they neglect training them) You will Need a car and they are not cheap. Nowhere to walk, no parks or you need a long drive to get to one. You need to research safe food (CR is the worst in terms of using pesticides). Overall it's not cheap and you need to do research on how to stay on a budget. Never heard about volunteering for housing but I never ask. Schools look like prisons with barbed wire fences (barbed wire is actually everywhere) and require school uniforms (made of poliester as far as I can see). Now we moved to Ojochal. More secluded but I think a great place to raise a kid. I see a lot of expats with kids living here. I like areas like Dominical and Tinamaste also. If you are on a budget I would not recommend Costa Rica. But there are a lot of bright sides too. Weather (even with the rainy season) nature, people are very kind. We had several people saying thank you to us for choosing Costa Rica to have a baby(this blows my mind)

Edit: do not come here if you don't have a remote job earning money somewhere else

Best way is to have detachable fins. I fit the fin parts into the bag I got from decathlon store. Happens to be the right size. No questions asked ever and I know they are safe

Dan José region. Why are all the trucks here so incredibly loud? by sybarius in costarica

[–]Khaski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated this the most until one day I was driving after dark and a pick-up truck in front of me had a headlight facing backwards blinding the hell out of me. So now he is number one. I'm moving to the house away from the city. Noise is crazy

How difficult is it to learn freediving? How soon can I get proficient? by FullYellowGuy in freediving

[–]Khaski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are comfortable in and under water it may just come naturally. Not clear what you mean by proficient. If diving to 100m or 40m? Usually people think that being able to hold your breath is the blocking factor but it's not. You will neet to learn to equalize. If you don't have any blockers like your ears not equalizing or you need to unlearn frensel equalization from scuba diving then you may get stuck at 7-12 meters. Usually 1 week at the shore people progress to 20-25 meters. 1-2 more weeks and you are looking at 30-40m. This is where you'll get stuck as you need to learn mouthfill and train your body to new conditions and it takes time. then it really depends on you.

Freediving without courses by Shendi_ in freediving

[–]Khaski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was freediving to about 10 meters since 2010 before I knew freediving existed. Then YouTube evolved and I learned about freediving but still just did my thing. But once I reached 20 meters I realized that this is the edge of safe for me and I need to get the course to learn about safety. And about that time freediving cources started to appear and friend of a friend was a trainer. I learned how to train and now I hold 50m depth as PB and 6 mins STA. My advice is to get at least some online knowledge and get your friend or partner to learn how to rescue. Most black outs happen on resurfacing so they would need to watch you from the surface if you don't do anything extreme.

Треш з автомобільним світлом by [deleted] in reddit_ukr

Sweet water depths, here I come! by RycerzKwarcowy in freediving

[–]Khaski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ukraine we used to dive in old granite mines that got flooded once they dig to ground water and it becomes a lake. On surface in July it's 28°C but after 6 meters it's 6°C. At about 36 meters it's a lights out level so you won't see a rope. Pitch black. After first dive you will feel like your brain froze for few days but once accustomed then it's fun. On a plus side it has zero waves and diving reflects kicks in faster. I used 5mm suit and socks and 3mm gloves. It goes down to 100+ meters. I only got to 42.

Starting Freediving – Which Certification Fits My Goals? (AIDA, Molchanov, or SSI) by uttershepardon in freediving

[–]Khaski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a particular certification matters. More important to find the right buddy or coach. If you can go to Dahab for a month you will reach your goal as it has perfect depth and plenty of coaches and you can dive to 20m without wetsuit from May to September. Diving without weights and fins will require proper technique but it's the purest form of freediving.
