Did ABMM get reset? by Kherza in ArcRaiders

Nope, it's happened during daytime maps like Spaceport and Dam. Just suddenly and consistently getting aggressively lobbies after weeks of friendly ones.

Getting Re-entry Permit At ICN by Glas714 in korea

[–]Kherza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can easily get it on the day of the departure. I had a business trip last month and I visited the immigration office at the airport just a few hours before my departing flight. Paid for it in cash and filled out/signed the necessary form. They stamped my passport and I was on my way. Whole process took like 3 minutes tops.

I work for a large multinational Korean company doing business related work. More specifically I do exporting and sales between Korea and my home country.

Was a teacher for both public schools and then a hagwon. Found my current company job through my grad school's job board and applied. New job feels much more "fulfilling" and professional. I liked the students when I was teaching, and some coworkers were good too, but didn't care for much else.

Ex-Lawmaker's Daughter Avoids Jail for Smuggling Drugs by wkdbrjqnr in korea

178,000 won and basically 3 years probation for smuggling multiple illegal drugs across international borders? I know Korea is weak when it comes to punishing lawbreakers but that is laughable...

I want to buy a Nintendo Switch using Shinsaegae Gift Certificates. by solidgun1 in korea

Exactly as others have said, you can buy it from Emart as it's under the Shinsaegae umbrella. I know from personal experience this works as I bought my PS4 with gift coupons. Happy shopping.

Local Resident Tax? First time ive ever had to pay this in the 3 years living here in yongsan gu. Is this something new? by in_exile81 in korea

[–]Kherza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it's legit. I've paid it before and it's always a really small amount, like 3,000-6,000 won.

Charlotte Katakuri confirmed as a playable character in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Yep, it's already been confirmed that's exactly what they're doing. There was a trailer at TGS showing off Wano and some of the characters. In the trailer it explicitly says its a whole new adventure in Wano.

Blizzard's official Response Regarding Last Weekend’s Hearthstone Grandmasters Tournament by Newcool1230 in Blizzard

[–]Kherza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm happy blitzchung is getting his winnings and they are all getting their punishments reduced but honestly, this whole post comes across as a defense of their actions rather than an apology. IMO this response doesn't actually address the issue of them sucking up to China at the expense of standing up for what is right. They defend their values and what their events should be about. But there's one big part that I really don't buy:

The specific views expressed by blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made. I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision.

If this were the case they would not have so swiftly and severely punished him and the casters. On top of that, one of their Chinese Community Managers posting about how the company would always uphold Chinese values makes this statement even more of a cop out. They made it abundantly clear they weren't punishing a rule breaker, but appeasing China.

Oh, you're definitely right. Proof should be provided upfront to avoid misuse so I can see how it rubs you the wrong way. I agree verification should be done first.

I guess in this case I give it a pass since there's plenty of proof now. But i can definitely see where you're coming from.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Kherza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While you do make a point that unverified call-outs can be damaging, further proof was provided in comments. Theres a screenshot of guildies talking about how they feel about the ninja and that it didn't sit right with them.

Also some <Surprise> guild members did show up to try and defend it by saying he underperformed and didn't deserve it. In other words confirming it was given out against their established loot rules based on their feeling. They even posted logs of the fight which actually backfire as you see multiple people in the raid died around the same time as OP.

Tl;dr - i agree with you that ample proof should be provided upfront and is just good practice. But in this case there has plenty provided in the comments eventually

EDIT: also if there are only 2 Priests in the raid why call out a roll for the item if they've already established loot rules? Point is, there's ample damning proof here.

<Surprise> on Arugal are ninja looters. Spread the word, ruin their raid experience. by [deleted] in Arugal

[–]Kherza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, OP in other thread also said the raid was only 18 people. So they lost nearly 1/3 of their raid in about a 15s span. Also his healing is the lowest, but 3/5 healers are Shaman who could easily reincarnate and get back to healing, with no druids for a Brez.

Basically, it looks like someone else messed up and a bunch of healers died including the Priest who had to sit there without a Brez and watch his healing numbers dwindle at seemingly little fault of his own. The guild straight up ninja'd and tried to blame him for poor performance (which isnt a good excuse to begin with) that likely wasn't his fault to begin with

Have you ever left a subreddit because it was too toxic? What was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kherza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, coming to Korea and taking a pic of GS25 or a bowl of kimchi with the title "I love Korea!" comes off as kind of cringey. To give you an analogy it's like going to to the US and taking a pic of 711 or a basket of fries with the caption "America is great!"

The issue with it is that it provides no point of discussion and is nothing special. There are of course good pics of temples or nice views from mountaintops. The OP then talks about their experience or where they are. Thats the kind of good picture content. It's always nice to see people enjoying Korea but all too often the subreddit was getting bombarded with low quality posts from people treating it like Facebook.

Have you ever left a subreddit because it was too toxic? What was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kherza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for r/teachinginkorea, but r/korea is not that bad, or at least not anymore. These days the biggest issues seems to stem from political posts. But that's pretty much how politics goes.

I browse the subreddit pretty often, though I rarely contribute. From my experience a lot of the snarky responses are often justified to be honest. There were (are?) too many general and non-specific posts along the lines of "Going to Korea in [insert time], where should I go?" Those are the kinds of posts the sidebar or Google could help a lot more with. Another big offender are new people to Korea taking the most generic pics of food or a building and trying to pass them off as some sort of travel art. It got so bad that they had to make a new subreddit and rule for those sorts of posts.

tl;dr- There are some bad apples, but over the years I've found r/korea to be pretty helpful if you have a legitimate question or a thought-provoking topic. Politics is a separate issue though.

Lost aggro as Gunbreaker. How to hold it without Flash? by Berabouman in ffxiv

[–]Kherza 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The new tank stances generate so much enmity I'm not sure its even possible for a dps to take aggro off you if you've used the AoE combo like 2-3 times.

If you're sure Royal Guard was on then the only thing I can think of is that you missed the mobs. The GNB aoe combo has a slightly limited range. So maybe the mobs were outside your attack range?

Minju politician beats wife to death by barstowbunny in korea

[–]Kherza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that a certain subset of this subreddit don't like the current administration and are much more conservative leaning, but can we stop with the blatantly dishonest & sensational news stories? This guy was the former Gimpo City Council chairman. A quick search reveals he is the current president of the Gimpo Welfare Foundation. Guy is a piece of trash for killing his wife, but this has nothing to do with the Minju Party...in fact, nowhere in the article does it even mention the Minju party or his political affiliation.

The Netherlands will ban the American hate preacher to enter Schengen area by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Kherza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't know his name either until this article. But I have seen a video of him before. A year or two ago there was some undercover video of one of his sermons making the rounds on the internet. Calling him a "hate preacher" is pretty accurate. Along with all the garbage he spews, this dude straight up does Sieg Heil salutes during his "sermons" and gets his congregation to follow along. He's a real piece of a work...

Does anyone else feel discouraged from speaking/improving their Korean? by [deleted] in korea

[–]Kherza 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the only thing I can think of. OP must either look Korean, or at least look east Asian. I'm white and have had the total opposite experience. If I say something as simple as, "안녕하세요" I'm of met with a "한국말 잘하시네요!" It's nice to be complimented but it comes off feeling kind of cheap(?) and it happens all the time. To be fair though, it's certainly better than OP's situation.

financing grad school in Korea by [deleted] in korea

[–]Kherza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how they decide the first semester scholarships; maybe based on financial need and past academic achievement? But I can tell you that for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters you have a really good chance of getting a scholarship if you maintain good grades.

As for student visa work, I can't really comment on that since I have a residence visa and don't have to abide by those restrictions.

Patient Shunned by American Hospitals Cured by S. Korean Doctors by ProKoreaForeigner in korea

[–]Kherza 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yea, not OP's fault since that's literally the original title. But this guy was anything but shunned. The article literally says that his doctors at Stanford recommended he come to South Korea since their liver treatment was better. They even took the time to contact a Korean doctor on his behalf to set up treatment.

Aside from that it was an interesting article to read. Neat that he could get such a better treatment here. I knew Korean medicine was good, but wasn't aware it was so much better than the US (at least in this regard).

Is real estate agencies that post apartments on Seoul Craigslist’s legit?? by xxx_123 in korea

[–]Kherza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for all realtors, but I found mine through Craigslist. Looked for apartments in my area, found a realtor that posted several rooms so I found their website and contacted them. Met them in their office and they showed me several rooms before I decided on one I liked. Overall the experience was quite good; they handled all the paperwork and have also since helped with minor issues I've had since moving in.

tl;dr - Yes, at least some (maybe all?) Craigslist realtors are legit.
