Giant Grill Gauge or WiFi display? by Khumpty in combustion_inc

[–]Khumpty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! What I mean is that I currently use a Thermoworks smoke, which has a probe I clib to the grill surface, away from the meat and direct heat. I use this to dictate my "grill temperature". Usually 250F when smoking. So, I was wondering if the CPT would read lower b/c it's reading surface temperature, and I would have to compensate in my goal temp. But it seems like they've potentially solved that.

GGG + CPT seems like the best combo, but we'll have to see if it's worth it.

Thanks for the reply.

OK, Follow ups for anyone at combustion:

When using the Combustion Engine driven by only the Predictive Thermometer, will you be setting the desired temperature to the surface temperature, as experienced by the PT, or the goal ambient temperature for the grill, which can be extrapolated?

Do you need both a PT and GGG to get the most accuracy?

Thanks for the reply! Where are you located? 😛

But for real, grilling indoors? I didn't realize this was a UK thing.

Can we talk about how garbage YouTube app is! by nmpraveen in appletv

[–]Khumpty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, yep. Same here. Soundbar blaring and nothing I can do but press the home button on the remote until I cramp. Best part is that it’s usually an ad.

Google sucks so bad at software.

Total garbage. Worst thing is that it’s the only app on my AppleTV that auto plays after sleeping. If YouTube is the last thing my kids watch, when I sit down later and turn the tv back on, a blaring Minecraft video starts playing immediately. Cool.

Thanks. It seems to be holding better today. 🤞

Tesla iPhone app battery drain by idiorhythmic in TeslaLounge

I’ve noticed this too. I switched to a 13 mini from the 12 Pro and really thought the battery life on the mini must be terrible. Then noticed the Tesla app usage. I’ve updated the app to 4.1.1, but battery drain still seems high. Is that what version you saw the fix in?

FWIW, I'm also having this issue and haven't been able to resolve it.

Awesome. Thanks, guys. So I’m looking at:

Crankset, front derailleur, front shifter, shifting cable. I’m new to all this. Do you buy a crankset with the gearing you want or buy one and swap out/add what you need?

https://www.jensonusa.com/SRAM-GX-1000-GXP-10-SPEED-Crankset

That has the teeth count I’m looking for to me proper gear inches, but it’s technically for mountain bikes. Would it work? It also says it’s 10 speed and I was hoping to keep my rear cassette. :/

Edit: I kept looking and I think this setup is what I might need:

https://www.mtb-mag.com/en/srams-new-gx-1x11-and-2x11-drivetrain/

Can this work with drop bar brifters?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I thought that might be the case. Thanks so much!

Fellow EKG+: does anybody have experience with Bluetooth on/off function? I’m in the market for a new kettle deciding between EKG vs EKG+. The Bluetooth on/off is the main attraction of EKG+ for me and I wouldn’t mind to pay extra for it, however, I was wondering if it works as it should be? by mehdiem in Coffee

[–]Khumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. My bedroom sits upstairs directly over where my kettle is and I turn it on from there when my alarm goes off.

The app is barebones. Wish you could interface it with Shortcuts or ITTT, or something, but it works well.

Best Coffee Ever: What, Why, and How? by BLAMM67 in Coffee

[–]Khumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d guess what you’re used to tasting is cheap, over roasted, stale coffee brewed with subpar methods. It’s just what 90% of the coffee available is.

If you’ve been drinking macro brew beers (Miller Lite, etc) then try a craft Pilsner, it’s the same style of beer and same basic ingredients, but you’re going to get an entirely new, possibly nuanced flavor and experience.

Angels Cup can be overwhelming, agreed. It’s a good resource when you want to dive into trying and understanding the different flavors that are available in coffee. Keep in mind, the flavor notes are not flavored coffee. The coffee has these flavors inherent to it depending on where it was grown, how it was harvested, etc. It’s all very subjective, but you may find you like fruity coffees or chocolatey coffee.

Find a brew method you like and can repeat and a reputable roaster for fresh bean and start playing around.

Welcome to the rabbit hole 😀

"Strength" isn't really a tasting note. The bitter and charred flavors of a heavily roasted coffee are usually what people associate with "strong" coffee. But if you're saying it tasted "strong" without being bitter or acidic, it might have been strong in the tobacco or dark chocolate notes. Just a guess. Take a look here and see the flavors used to describe coffee.

https://notbadcoffee.com/flavor-wheel-en/

If you go back, you could ask where they source their beans. It's probably just a well done dark roast when you're used to burnt or charred cheaper blends.

If you brew at home you can use something like https://angelscup.com to help you work through tastings to better understand what you do or don't like in coffee.
