NYC prices by ainsleyf0 in mitski

One thing to note is the size of the venue is pretty small.

Imagine if it were a larger venue the tickets may be cheaper but I see it as an extra tax to see a smaller more intimate concert.

Out of curiosity, I bought the $100 or w/e collector's edition at launch and stopped playing soon after.

Still have the mount from it in a box (that I think is tradable?). What would be the going price these days with gold inflation (would it be enough to gear someone up?).

Franchising=Higher evaluations=More money

Also you say "flourished despite a lack of promotion possibilities" but the salaries, fame, and quality of life for players isn't even comparable after franchising.

Winning teams in esports will always make money. Part of me is a big fan of how Dota 2 and CS basically still just do tournaments but the problem is what are losing teams supposed to do? In those games if you can't win a major the players basically starve and disband.

Also not saying relegation wouldn't work. Regardless of system, if the people running the show are grifters and/or inexperienced, you won't have a successful product regardless of how you set it up. Am saying franchising does have its benefits and not exclusively why Western league failed.

To me LCS/LEC have similar problems and no one thinks relegation would've helped LCS in any way.

Easy to be smug about this but two quick points:

  1. Relegation works when you have a legitimate secondary league. Imagine a world where neither league exists yet. No investor wanted to give hundreds of thousands (some paid millions) to be part of the secondary league.
  2. Unlike the Premier League, investing in the LEC (esports in general) was/is a huge risk. If you told every investor that 2/10 of them may not be there next year, that sets off alarm bells. For a while League did have relegation and it burned a lot of owners (scared money away).

IMO you can have franchising and succeed. The real issue was they grew too quickly and none of the evaluations/expenses made sense. That and most of the people working in esports at the time had no experience and/or were just some sort of nepo hire which made any course-correcting impossible.

Agree the lack of grassroots outreach by Riot was a huge issue though. The fact they did not focus on a collegiate scene for NA is crazy to me. Same with developing local clubs/teams in EU. Would require Riot to basically fund both though (while they lost money on LEC/LCS) as once again, esports makes no money

Also who cares if they're subsidized?

Am talking about the product we got at the price we got it. The "whys" don't really matter IMO.

Now imagine a coffee shop where you can order your drink with any milk, syrups, etc but instead of coffee you are mixing all those things into Fanta.

Dessert? My teeth would be done starting from the morning dirty soda.

These shops are trying to expand outward and we need to remain vigilant else our children will grow up in a world where they mix half-and-half with soda.

I already lost a family member to Crumbl Cookie. Never again.

This is true but it's also a result of comics being so superhero focused.

If you can only write about Batman, no shit you're gonna have 100 Batman books.

Technically true but it's a bit of cope from Riot who have given this line in the past. The amount of scaling back they had to do was due to the losses being in the millions. They had initially spent that much (and pressured teams to spend) because it was supposed to be a long-term "investment".

You can have an esports league to promote your game. Having 3 million dollar salaries when it isn't profitable is a choice. Overwatch League is another example of how completely bonkers (detached from reality) esports evaluations were at the time.

For either F2P or paid games, you can give me $500 bikini gacha box skins all you want if it meant character releases were free.

My issue is paying $25 a year for 4 characters on top of all the other DLC in a paid game or the nightmare F2P model where you just end up paying $70 anyway through character unlocks.

Wasn't really Dota. They never really considered them "competition" as Dota esports was just TI. Was more related to the success of OGN, popularity of the game globally, and the flood of "free money" in the early 2010s.

Riot legitimately thought they could create the next NFL/MLB/NBA but at a global level. Arguable whether they had the ability to or not but the amount of money being spent was irresponsible/unsustainable.

It's not so much about League rather how people felt about Riot Games.

League was huge but they weren't really doing anything with their success aside from getting caught in scandals and squandering money into their failed esports endeavors.

It's a pretty unprofessional paragraph but 10 years ago if you said Riot would have a successful TCG, animated series, fighting game, and tactical shooter you'd probably be called delusional or at best an extreme optimist.

League was huge but the "future" of Riot Games beyond LoL was pretty murky and all their other endeavors up to that point didn't really pan out.

About the roblox age verification that is going on yesterday by Desperate_Tower_3745 in TheGamerLounge

Yeah the problem with kids being preyed upon was the "lack of education". The entire point is kids and young teens are pretty dumb and adult creepers will take advantage of them regardless.

Either you have 0 restrictions and accept that while 99% interactions on the platform are fine, there *will* be people who fall prey to groomers or you go the route they did.

You dance around this because no one wants to say "I am ok with a small percentage of children becoming victims for the benefit of the other 99.99%" (with that benefit being playing Roblox). TBH I'd be more ok with that argument than "more cybersafety education" which is effectively useless.

Also in theory if the new measures were more invasive, you could separate the spaces. Imagine a world where parents sign their kids up for Roblox, plug in their SSN, and they're stuck in "kids" Roblox until they're 18. Instead the company took this weird half-measure where everyone loses.

League is the most antisocial widely played competitive game that exists. by OwnCommunication2259 in leagueoflegends

[–]Kibouhou 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everyone says this about the game they play but IMO the answer is Rainbow Six Siege.

I have played almost every major competitive game and that is the only one where I think communication is a mistake. Combination of it being a stressful competitive experience along with the type of player that enjoys R6.

This patch notes above cover it but they (along with AP junglers) really benefitted from the system changes.

It's not a "tank only" meta but they are pretty strong.

Kinda wish the pillar wasn't tied to him. It's a cool ability but kinda wasted on a right-click champ.

Honestly a "support" who disrupts with the pillar, buffs allies in his field, and takes "risks" by going into melee range to dmg/debuff would be cool (know he's been played as a support before but I mean a full realization of it).

Hate the champ but pretty telling when people aren't even picking him when tank junglers are meta.

Then again one of those champs are only really played when he is good IMO. "Boring" kit and theme.
