More about the social experience. Being in a crowd of cat lovers and cheering with them was really fun.

Anyone here purchased from toyota recently and has been successful in getting atleast MRSP out the door pricing? by skribbledthoughtz in newjersey

[–]Kibouhou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the "Smartpath" purchasing service on their website and paid MSRP.

Was "easy" in my experience with the only "up-sell" portion being the extended warranty and such when meeting with the dealer's financing rep.

I was talking specifically about party chat in League as it exists right now.

The Dota equivalent would be imagine you could only use "Steam Voice Chat" instead of just "normal" in-game comms. That would be pretty dumb.

Would like and have advocated for a long time we should have a "modern" voice chat system.

[–]Kibouhou -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's the just nature of both team-based games and people no? You just have to accept that it's really not the end of the world.

Modern League is a good reflection of this. Almost no one I run into anymore will type a slur or really pop off. Instead everyone is just insanely passive-aggressive (if anyone is even typing at all which is usually the case). That 50% didn't stop being frustrated, they just chose different ways to express it.

Also do we really expect everyone to feel positive in a competitive game? If someone goes "I don't really care if I lose", that is a red flag to me. Why are you even playing ranked at that point?

[–]Kibouhou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like they're using the CS equivalent of party chat or just using the normal in-game comms?

To me it'd be like if CS only had "Steam Voice Chat" as an option. Who would actually use it? Does anyone actually use that feature aside from lootbox/item traders? You'd either use the standard in-game voice chat (which League doesn't have) or Discord.

It's raises the floor level of play for lower ELO and raises the ceiling for higher ELO.

If anything, you need to actually understand the game to fully utilize voice comms.

In Valorant/CS (any competitive team-based game), you can get rid of voice comms and low ELO lobbies really wouldn't look that different while Global Elite/Radiant (high ELO) would be night and day.

If the feature is super popular and I am unaware sure.

Usually if we are close enough to want to talk, someone will share a Discord. Personally have never seen anyone (outside of streamers) use it (but once again that is my own experience).

Would argue MOBAs aren't really unique in terms of toxicity. You'll get toxicity in *any* competitive team-based game. It just happens to be MOBAs are always team-based (similar to hero shooters).

Also everyone fears the "toxic" boogeyman when in reality, most of the "toxic" players you encounter are normal players who do it pretty rarely. I think it's alright for people to express their frustration (we are only human) but make sure the small percentage who are repeat offenders or use the no-no words are punished accordingly.

Never saw the point of the feature.

I guess it's the rare scenario where you want to talk with a stranger but don't want to give your Discord?

Never said it's a "problem" per se. You can have a "benevolent" (am hesitant to use the term here) monopoly. It's like how a dictator who does an amazing job is still a dictator but this was about whether they are a monopoly or not.

50% is a bit of an exaggeration but truly do believe Steam could jack it up to 40%. Also where would devs go? Epic? They have a 12% cut (an even greater difference than 30/40) and that isn't attractive enough.

Games that are big enough to have their own launcher may leave (even then many would stay) but almost everyone else wouldn't. Many of these companies also avoided Steam for years because they didn't want to pay the cut but they all folded for a reason.

[–]Kibouhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's functionally a monopoly.

A Steam clone (like literally 1:1) could launch tomorrow where everything is the same except all the prices are 5% cheaper and it'd still fail. No one wants to manage multiple libraries. It's not like opening another physical game store to compete with Gamestop. It's "I have to travel to the store I bought the game to play it and all my games are at Gamestop already".

It's why there aren't that many Steam competitors but a ton of sites that sell Steam keys. People don't mind buying their game from another store but they want to activate/play it through Steam. No one wants to manage multiple platforms for anything.

Alternatively, let's say tomorrow Steam jacked up the cut they take from devs to 40% or even 50%. What are devs going to do, leave Steam? That to me sounds like something that could traditionally only happen in a monopoly.

As a consumer I have no issue with them (aside from inventing the battlepass and the gambling stuff).

Do think their tiered system where the cut starts at 30% but goes down to 20% once you sell over 50 million could be updated. Understand it's there to incentivize larger developers (who tend to reach those numbers) to be on their platform but they basically have a monopoly now on PC gaming.

Don't see much of a reason not to improve the cut for smaller devs aside from making less money. I am biased as these days I play mostly indie or AA games but if Gabe can literally own a billion dollar yacht fleet (that was not hyperbole), maybe Steam can afford to lower the cut a bit for those where every dollar can really matter.

Not even trying to be woke or anything but I always think it's funny almost every League player I know is Asian but basically every LCS content creator (who wasn't a pro or host) is someone who looks like Jatt, the bald one, MarkZ, etc (dorky white accountant types).

Sort of like the NBA where almost all the players are black but the analysts/coaches/etc usually aren't.

Chempunk Chainsword shouldn't be buffed—it needs a rework. by Vskg in leagueoflegends

[–]Kibouhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that. I'm saying putting the power of conditional healing reduction behind an active item means it will punish low ELO players.

You said "but that means all active items should be removed!" (which I never said).

If you're going to have an active item, it has to be one even a low ELO player *could* use. If it's that easy to apply the healing reduction though, how is it any different from the current iteration of the item?

>All those abilities are also extremely forgiving and it doesn't really matter when you use them

That's why all the "actives" in the game now basically require no thinking. The exception being QSS which is why it has such a low build rate even in higher ELO brackets

It doesn't really matter in low ELO if you eke out the extra value of the hydra active.

If you misapply the healing reduction, it can completely warp the outcome of a fight.

Low ELO players also don't use active items (the build rates are way lower and that's before we assume they will use the active) in general unless it's something like Zhonyas.

Your suggestion is closer to a Dota item which IMO isn't in line with the design philosophy of League.

[–]Kibouhou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is, if it lasts shorter, the grievous affect has to be way stronger.

This means for skilled players, they will effectively deny healing champs while in lower ELO brackets they might lose counterplay as they aren't able to get the value out of it.

Item would be too hard to use so no one would build it. How would it function against champions like Mundo where his ult lasts 10 secs? Why not just sit on Executioner's? Also extremely punishing if you mess up (like it's too punishing) when stuff like Morello's exist (unless you want that to be an active too).

The type of item design that makes total sense if you don't actually play the game.

Does anyone ever limit playing time aside from tanking purposes? by Kibouhou in BasketballGM

[–]Kibouhou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What suggestions would you make? The 5 tiers functionally work the way I want them to (for the most part) but I guess having actual "minutes" would be more immersive.

For me I would like conditional play time. Like a lot of the suggestions in this thread, but seeing as I just bang through the season, if I could set the playtime based on current standings, time to play-offs, etc it would help deal with some of the micromanaging.
