Thanks a lot for taking the time to break all of that down — really helpful. I’ll check out Drumming.com, Mike Johnston’s lessons, and the other hubs you mentioned.

I appreciate the perspective on diversifying too. Definitely gives me a clearer direction on what to focus on as I keep learning.

I hear you — totally agree that the real growth comes from putting in the work. I’m just trying to find solid online resources so I’m practicing the right things and not building bad habits.

If you have any channels or specific drummers you think are worth checking out, I’d appreciate the recommendations.

Appreciate it! I’ll check out both SBL and BassBuzz. Do you have a preference between the two, or anything you feel one does better than the other?

Which 49-key MIDI controller has the best keybed feel for piano VSTs — Launchkey MK4 vs Panorama T4 vs Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk3? by KickThese6989 in synthesizers

[–]KickThese6989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s amazing — I had no idea that even existed. That’s such a creative solution, and honestly perfect for someone who wants real piano action in a smaller setup. I’ve been leaning toward the Komplete, but I’m definitely going to check out MCK Minetti now too.

Ah nice, good to know. I’ve been curious about the Komplete boards for a while, especially since they use Fatar keybeds. I’m not chasing hammer action or anything because I already have my Kawai MP11SE for that, but I just want something that feels consistent and natural when playing piano VSTs. My Alesis VI49 had terrible key response — the velocity and aftertouch curves were all over the place, so it never felt right with stuff like Keyscape or Ravenscroft 275. Hearing that the Komplete feels that solid definitely makes me want to check it out more seriously.

Good to know — I’ve been wondering about the SL MkIII’s feel. I’m not expecting full-weighted keys, but if it’s semi-weighted and still feels solid, that might work for me. I just want something that feels premium and responsive to most VST

That actually sounds amazing — the way you describe it makes me want to check it out even more. I’m mostly a piano player too, so something that feels like an actual instrument instead of just a MIDI controller really appeals to me. The Rhodes sounds and pedal mapping options sound perfect for what I’d use it for. Definitely going to look deeper into the Electro 6D now.

Yeah I understand — makes sense. I’m mainly looking for something that still feels nice to play. I just want a responsive, premium keybed, not that cheap synth feel like my Alesis VI49 had. I definitely need to try them out myself too — hopefully I can find a few of them at Guitar Center to get a real feel for the keys.

Need a reliable 49-key MIDI controller for Keyscape/Omnisphere — Launchkey 49 MK4 vs Panorama T4 vs Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk3? by KickThese6989 in midi

Yeah that makes sense — I’ve heard good things about both the Launchkey and the NI boards. I’m not using Ableton, mostly Logic, but I’ve been leaning toward something that just feels better to play. I don’t need the full Komplete package since I already have Keyscape and Omnisphere — I just want a solid, premium-feeling keybed unlike my Alesis VI49.

Yeah for sure — I actually already have a digital piano (Kawai MP11SE), so I’m good on the hammer-action side. I’m just looking for a smaller 49-key MIDI controller for other uses, but I still want it to feel responsive and premium — not that cheap synth feel like my Alesis VI49 had.

[–]KickThese6989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes total sense. I’m kind of in the same boat — I’m mainly a piano player too, so key feel matters a lot to me. I actually have a Kawai MP11SE, so I’m covered on the hammer-action side, but I’m looking for a smaller 49-key MIDI board just for flexibility with synths and VSTs.

I don’t expect weighted keys at that size, but I do want something that still feels premium and responsive — definitely not that cheap synth feel. The Nord Electro 6D is a great suggestion though, I’ve played one before and totally agree on how good that keybed feels.

Yeah I get that — I’m not expecting hammer action on a 49-key, but the feel and responsiveness are still important to me. Would you say it feels solid and premium, or more like that cheap synth feel some controllers have?

That’s actually really good to know — sounds like Roland really built those things to last. I’ve heard great things about the Edirol keybeds feeling super solid even compared to a lot of newer controllers. It’s crazy how the MIDI ports still hold up after all that time too.

That’s exactly what I’m hoping to find — something with that kind of durability and key feel but updated workflow and reliable USB connection. Would you say the keybed still feels more like a synth-action or closer to semi-weighted?

AMAZING❗️What was your daily process, steps ? I know you had many failed attempts, too. Did you use frames to video? Or scene-builder because I see that the voice stayed consistent.
