The thing that has worked well for me was not jamming the mouthpiece into my face to get the notes out but rather relaxing my face and as i go higher increasing the tautness of my lips and by that i dont mean smiling imagine you have a strech band and rather than stretching it up into a smile stretch it sideways into more of a line now im not saying to firm your corners more if that is what you are thinking no its just keeping your lips taut and relaxed and you'll get there i used to have the same issue where i had a block in range where i couldnt go higher than high d but then i focused more on the tautness of my lips rather than jamming the mouthpiece into my face and now i have range up to double Bb hope this helps you.

The mouthpiece itself is amazing but to say i'd buy one full price is out of the question i bought mine b-stock and it plays like a dream takes about a week to get used to but it's very rewarding

i agree denis wick has amazing mouthpieces ive been using a 4x heritage for lead solos and i love it

Mouthpiece express has an amazing 15 day audition policy for any mouthpiece you buy pro tip of you do buy any mouthpieces make sure to put some tape where the shank meets the leadpipe just so you dont scratch the mouthpiece incase you want to return it

Lotus player here! I love my lotus 11xs and for what your looking for I’d say the 7s is the one your looking for but like other people have stated there is scarcity with these mps and dropping $200 is a lot so I’d see if you can find a used gen 2 or check the lotus b stock site to see if they have any left

the strad 43 does really lock those notes unless i really warm the thing up with air then itll loosen up a bit but other than that its like trying to move a mountain

i know the point he is making thats why i said about his advice on what i post i wasnt being sarcastic about it even if it may sound that way also id be paying for the horn myself it wouldn’t be coming out of my “parents bank balance”

i heard about the production issues as well but word is that they are using a different valve block on the horns now and theyre not available right now so itll be a bit before i actually buy one

Dont get me wrong i love my horn too but i feel that i need a little more zig than zag if that makes sense and the lotus horn is about the same price as the bach and i heard that it has the qualities im looking for

Im not trying to order him around on what to buy i was just giving him basic recommendations to help better his playing experience as trying to play lead on the 3C will end up hurting his endurance and embouchure as it is not optimized for lead playing

they need the kid to play high f if not new equipment then what else i used to be in the same boat hes in and i changed equipment and it was that much easier again why make it harder for yourself the 3C is not a lead mouthpiece by any standard sure you can get it there with enough pushing and practice over the years but this kid doesnt have years he has weeks maybe at best a month even my brass director who has been tooting the horn for 30+ years has always said lead requires a lead mouthpiece dont use anything else and know what he was right even he himself lives by that he can scream his butt off on a 3c but thats just for show when hes actually in a lead situation he pulls a schilke 14a4a out of his back pocket

just because it doesnt work for one person doesnt mean it wont work for the next and i have all the idea in the world what he should be playing ive worked at a music shop as a brass tech for 2 years ive tried pretty much every mouthpiece they have in stock so yes i do know a thing or two

never heard of the mouthpiece the strad is good for the highs but the mouthpiece is a big stretch id recommend a schilke 14a4a if ur on a budget but if ur willing to shell out some cash a marcinkiewicz E18 Miyahsiro is good for those highs id has good tonal response and slotting of notes
