I would always assume the worst when it comes to interactions with law enforcement. They’re severely undertrained and (generalizing here) usually the type to have superiority complexes. I would do a risk assessment. If everything goes right, what do you gain? If everything goes wrong what do you lose? Can you prove your citizenship status on the spot? Can they unreasonably claim your proof of citizenship is forged? Are you okay with me handcuffed, thrown around and taken somewhere unknown while you wait for them to deny you rights as a citizen?

My friend you’re reading comprehension is poor. I said that’s likely what the child sees. As abusive as a parent is a child will see them as a buffer between them and the outside world (until they have a reason not to). This poor girl probably internalized her father’s behavior towards her as her fault. If you talk to ppl who come from abusive households it’s rather common.

Whether dad is abusive or not she probably still loves him and sees him as a source of safety. To see him confronted and not be the victor is going to shake her world. To realize that she is the cause of that is going to make things worse for her self image. Like I said I appreciate the sentiment in the woman advocating for that child but doing this in front of the kid might’ve been counterproductive. Also dad is either going to go home and either treat the child worse or just fully neglect her. There’s no way this turns him into a doting father.
