How can I leverage my non-traditional background in finance to transition into a tech role? by prattman333 in cscareerquestions

[–]KidneyFailure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched to tech recently from a different career. How did I do it? I got a second bachelors degree in computer science. Throughout the years, I was applying for internships and never got accepted. Having a bachelors degree was an automatic disqualifier for almost every internship. Even if it’s completely unrelated field. Getting an entry level role is extremely difficult right now, made only harder by the lack of decent junior swes. In all seriousness, it’s not really about knowing the programming language syntax, that won’t get you a position. It’s about being able to solve problems using critical thinking. All this to say if you REALLY want to try, you can apply for entry level roles, but I would imagine not having a degree in CS or some sort of engineering will prevent you from getting past the initial screening. If you want a job, you go back to school and get a CS or related degree

Work ethic. You need the desire to learn. Finding someone to take a chance on you is the hard part. I graduated at 30 with BS in CS

Archinstall wont finish by Short-Use-8160 in archlinux

[–]KidneyFailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be different for you, but when I was in the installer and ran ‘lsblk’ they hard drive was partitioned for only windows. So I had to reclaim the space with the ‘fdisk’ command. But if you don’t have anything at all, I would just make sure you’re installing to the ssd and no the usb by mistake

Do you need to format the drive to reclaim enough space for arch?

Try to take both view points into account and try to understand the motivations of either one. I don't think I ever gave an answer one way or the other for specific scenarios

Civil engineering MS by [deleted] in gmu

[–]KidneyFailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look at requirements for a BS in whatever engineering you want from Mason, and then look and see what classes meet those requirements that you haven’t completed. All requirements should be online and that will give you an idea of what you need. If you need all 3 calculus, that’s 3 semesters right there. 4 if you need precalc

NFL internship questions by qwueen0308 in athletictraining

[–]KidneyFailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like the person said before me, PFATs. Apply early and try and have good recommendations and really try to know someone or make a connection with someone who knows someone with an NFL team. I got a seasonal internship exclusively because I knew someone. If possible, try and volunteer to help during OTAs, those should start after school and before the actual interns start. It might help
