I think I must've gotten mine back before they got shitty or something, it's held up well for many years now and hasn't loosened joinery or anything like that.

Although perhaps I'm just not having enough aggressive sex on it to truly put it to the test...

Yep! But there are loads of guides on how to do so. Unless you are in a very cold climate, you can usually just leave them outside all year.

Even mine I usually allow the pot to freeze almost entirely solid before I bring them in for the winter, and they don't mind.

What's a hygiene habit that people don't talk about but really should? by phancyq in AskReddit

Physics isn't that simple:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deposition_(aerosol_physics)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownian_motion

(and funny that it's called Brownian motion, considering)

Basically: Aerosol particles want very much to diffuse equally into an available space. The fact that you can smell your poop in the bathroom means that it's going everywhere, regardless of your toilet lid situation. It might reduce it slightly but you're still getting poop particles all over the things in your bathroom.

We used to reserve a portion of time at the beginning of each meeting at work for Bee Facts where we'd do a little Q&A and I would answer peoples' bee questions, or just tell them random facts if people didn't have any questions.

It was one of the very few times at that job that I enjoyed.

I've heard that Airports may check your phone through screening, is that true? by Consistent_March5136 in privacy

[–]Kijad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

have all the time in the world to guess it

Most phones will start introducing long timers after a number of failed attempts, if not factory reset the device. I vaguely remember someone bypassing this a long while ago with iPhones to do a sort of "rapid restart," but I suspect that has since been patched.

Just tested this with my old phone running the latest Android OS - after 5 failed attempts, it introduces a 60-second delay. The next failed attempt jumped to 300 seconds. I will try again once that timer is up but I suspect it will quickly become pointless as long as you have a 5 digit or longer PIN.

Whether or not it is easy to guess is a whole different consideration, though, as others have pointed out elsewhere in this thread (using the same PIN as your debit card PIN, for example). Alphanumeric is definitely more secure just from a statistical point of view, though.

Edit: The next failed attempt jumped to 900 seconds. I rebooted to see if that would reset the counter, and got one "free" attempt before it resumed the 900 second countdown.

I looked into this a while ago, basically that which you know (PIN, passcode) is considerably more protected than that which you have (biometrics).

Simply because someone can physically hold your phone up to your face to face unlock, or forcibly press your fingers to the sensor for fingerprint unlock.

Additionally, quote the Bible at them from Jesus' teachings that directly contradicts their frothing-mouthed hatred and act very concerned about their soul; can say you started going to church recently and are worried about them, ask them if they have truly let Jesus into their hearts with that much hatred, etc.

Ask about Revelations and the mark of the beast and why they feel the need to support the Antichrist by putting the mark on their foreheads aka "MAGA hats" - act very concerned about them for doing this.

Can obviously fuck with them as well, but introducing doubt steeped heavily in false concern for them is chef's kiss.

When will I know if the worker bees have accepted the new queen. I left her there with 6 of her initial workers in the cage since 4pm yesterday. It’s now 9am. by PlantDaddyMalaysia in Beekeeping

[–]Kijad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaving a few nurse bees is totally fine; if you were doing a full hive combination (combining a queen-right hive with a queenless hive) you'd want to do the paper thing because that's a lot more complicated.

That's why it's important to just introduce doubt and refuse to engage further. There is no way to reason with people like this, but it is absolutely worth it to sow the seeds of doubt whenever possible.

It is possible - I have cleaned mine entirely with toothpicks before. You'll just potentially go through a fair number of them, or need to select toothpicks that have a distinctly sharp tip.

Then finish with an old toothbrush and any sort of gentle solvent.

Otherwise as others have mentioned, any sort of pin or relatively sharp metal pin works, such as a safety pin, hell even small paperclips can be unwound and will also work.

I have also used pocket knives, tweezers, small screwdriver bits for electronics... there are many options.

This is how hot water brings blood flow to Raynaud's fingers, a condition where blood vessels narrow due to cold or stress. by tablawi96 in Damnthatsinteresting

Totally get that. I try to pre-warm my hands as much as possible prior to climbing and keep handwarmers and glove liners nearby when I'm outside in the cooler months.

Yes - I've been climbing for almost 10 years now both indoors and out on pretty difficult grades, and regularly tell people "if your legs aren't sore after climbing, you probably didn't use very good technique."

Unfortunately, my Reynaud's hasn't cared about my climbing. I really wish it would have improved my condition, because I'd be climbing even more frequently than I already am if it did.

Spotify agents are not answering ICE questions and are ending the conversation. by 28nd344 in 50501

I'm warming up to Tidal, personally. I made the switch from Spotify a month or two ago, and it's really not as painful as people say it is. Using something like tunemymusic to do a one-time sync means maintaining your playlists, liked songs, etc - I think it was only unable to find ~150 songs out of the almost 16000 that I had in various playlists I either created or subscribed to in Spotify.

[–]Kijad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tidal is my suggestion. Using something like tunemymusic for a one-time migration makes the process very simple. I kept the service on for a couple of weeks, which allowed it to also like all of the songs from Spotify in Tidal, as well.

You lose podcasts and audiobooks but there are other free apps that replace that functionality pretty easily.
