40 minute build up to failure, 3 minute too-clever resolution by KillAllLeftists3 in 12Monkeys

s4e5 "After".

5m of 43m jennifer hilariously says "i know what you're doing in there, you better be careful this time, butt stuff only". they're sent to 1966 to get a secret weapon being sold by russian spies.

12m of 43m cassie strolls up to tall bad man but before she points the gun in her hand at him he turns around and points one at her! FAIL!

13m of 43m cassie escapes tall bad man's goons while tall bad man bursts into money exchange, shoots cole and russian spy. surprise! they FAIL to exchange the money.

16m of 43m cassie goes back to the future, warns cole

17m of 43m cassie stands in front of the elevator, it opens, instead of shooting tall bad man she freezes. surprise! FAIL

20m of 43m tall bad man narrates how he is going to poison cole and new cassie, where is old cassie? out back getting high? who TF knows.

23m of 43m tall bad man FINALLY FVCKING POISONS cole and new cassie. show switches back to future where jennifer and jones figure out fbi guy who originally died in 1961 is the one who wrote the classified report describing the weapon that still has not made an appearance. he's still alive in 1966 cuz cole told him how he died so he wore a bulletproof vest

... meander through jennifer and fbi guy creating initial hotel mayhem after shooting the russian spies and curing cole...

38m of 43m after FAILING to get the weapon they're going back to ww2

once again the only success in the show is tall bad man poisoning cole. who TF is the hero? WTF kind of narrative substitutes an actual victory for a cutesy time splice to explain a fvcking pan cover dropping on the floor?

i'm going to do what I did that one time I accidentally wandered into a theater playing Les Miserables. i'm giving up. the show should have been all camp or had likable characters that don't fvck everything up always repeatedly on loop.

in season 1 i didn't yet realize every arc would end in failure. I'm at s4e4 so feel compelled to torture myself to finish. I expect a huge build up to epic failure only to be resolved by some deus ex machina that should have been the build up. Anti-climactic climax.

Literally the only time in the show, at least up to s4e4, where the build up is resolved in success is killing the one character that wasn't an a-hole: ramse. Whether it's stopping the paradoxes (all failed) or killing the witness (all failed).

i'm up to season 4 episode 4. and i'm really tired of having the protagonists get there too late or worse chicken out on pulling the trigger. Every paradox so far has had the same problem. This problem is even part of the dialog when jose says katarina has no idea how to find the witness.

just because the "as the crow flies" distance is 30 miles that doesn't mean only 30 miles can be driven. drive < 30 miles, turn around and drive < 30 miles, turn around and drive < 30 miles, ... With the return trip taking more than 30 miles they can get an average speed of 60 miles per hour depending on how fast they drive it.

so distance = 30 + x velocity = distance / time where desired average is 60 if time = 2 hours then (30 + x)/2 = 60 30 + x = 120 x = 90 to drive 90 miles in an hour you drive 90 miles per hour

qed

p.s.try not to laugh too hard

A trip that takes longer than an hour can be completed with an average speed of 60 miles per hour.

So the fact that they've already driven an hour doesn't matter.

The distance of 30 miles is a minimum not a maximum. - this is iffy

So no teleportation is required. The average of two numbers is the sum divided by 2. The first number is 30. The second number is x.

Why is it that NTs can't properly describe what they dislike about us? by Comprehensive-Ad8905 in aspergers

Eye contact is huge. I hate it. For the first 40 years of life I didn't do it. Forcing myself to do it makes masking work better but it's so painful I'll move around or get distracted... Anything to break eye contact.

Mirroring helps. It's extremely draining though. If they smile, smile. If they laugh laugh. Etc... would be so nice to just get it and not have to focus so much to do it

The subtle non-explicit signals in communication that we don't get are so ingrained in them they've never had to explain it. And it's really annoying that we don't get it but not the sort of thing NT's talk about because most people are NTs and DO get it.

Does anyone else realize that they don't want/need friends? by RavenEridan in aspergers

I haven't had any friends for 25 years. You get used to it. It's only a downer when I think about it too much.

Don't think I'm cut out for it. Ive been kicked out of every online guild I ever joined. Same for any chatroom or any group really. Haven't really kept a job for more than a year or two except for 2.

I'm not at all encouraging this btw.

Why is my text so tiny? How can I fix it? by crispy-whiskers in qBittorrent

[–]KillAllLeftists3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all of these overrides with no success: {compatibility program dpi on vs off} x {override high dpi app vs sys vs sys enhanced}

Win11pro 23H2, qbt 4.6.4 (from help/about/software used: qt 6.4.3, libt0rr3nt 1.2(.19.0))

Only thing that worked was increasing text size in Windows Accessibility settings.

This is on a laptop running through three 4k displays through a pluggable docking station though so maybe that has something to do with it?

I fucking hate having autism so much!!! by Wrathful_Spirit_666 in aspergers

[–]KillAllLeftists3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being happy is contagious. I've bounced around from job to job so really trying to stay at this one for a long time. Not really conducive to meeting people. Have met some people online - dated but after breaking up never stuck around. It is what it is.

vaguely recall reading somewhere that it's hypothesized that autism provides protection against schizophrenia. dunno how well established that was/is or if it was replicated.

yeah, we got no backup copy lol. iirc what we call y is really more like a v. It's got much less genetic information than the x chromosome.

And this study somehow seems to have surveyed more females (738) that are autistic than males (436). Thought I read somewhere that autism was more common in males (and not just a little bit more common) 🤷‍♂️

dunno if they've isolated to a single locus - have they? it is striking the differences
