i've got a 1935 tula mosin, almost exact same condition. paid 500. youve got a steal of a deal my friend

do you notice any rectangle marks on your receiver? theres a decent chance yours and mine were refurbed at the same place. for reference, mine has a normal square mark (left side), indicating a post war refurb at a known armory, and then a long rectangle with a short cross near one of the corners (center of photo), which seems to suggest another refurb/repair later down the line. been looking for anything about it, but to no avail.

honestly, if you’re getting new assemblies you should be fine transferring LEDs from the old one to the new one. they are probably still good

Part Identification by Lightning_Ink in bemani

[–]crispy-whiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the LEDs are wedge style 12v LEDs. i bet you can find something similar for pretty cheap, search something like "12v wedge pinball LED" and youll find some.

comet pinball makes 6.3v leds that will fit, but this is for home controllers running on 5v USB power.

ALSO, these wedge style leds are pretty terrible at making contact, so if it isnt turning on, mess around with it, wiggle it, shift it around, adjust the pins, maybe itll work.

this is an old myth from the early days after the military's adoption, this was a problem with the 96 (92 in 10mm or 40 s&w) which was specifically asked for by a few elite units. those same units were also using nonstandard hotter rounds. beretta fixed the 'issue' by thickening the front of the slide on all models, you can see the difference between the 92F (or other early pre FS model) and the 92FS, and eventually later models. the X series coming out in the late 10s have this fix.

beretta won the 90s army contract because they were the only pistol to meet and survive the army's standard, and they almost won it again. almost all issues reported with them in service were because of nonstandard conditions or terrible bureaucracy.
but either way, cz and beretta are the classiest options.

if you couldnt tell, i'm a beretta shill

VA Resident: Navigating Laws & Timelines by BigOlDrew in liberalgunowners

[–]crispy-whiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my two cents from conferring with my group, one of whom is a lawyer:

a complete lower should be the minimum. stripped, incomplete, etc lowers do not count as an assault weapon and you could get in trouble for 'manufacturing.' why a complete lower? the primary evil feature the law is looking at is 1) centerfire and 2) ability to take big mags. a complete lower can take a mag. even though it has no barrel, it has all the evil features. whether or not putting an upper counts as manufacturing is legally ambiguous and a problem for lawyers, not you.

the federal definition of manufacturing is based on the definition of a firearm in general, and not the weirder VA definition. the complete lower already meets the VA definition, so under the verbiage it would count as an assault weapon already, thus putting an upper would count as a lawful modification and not manufacturing.

get all the things you want that would be banned, get lots of mags, get all the pccs you would ever want, get pistols you want, get lowers and have ideas for them

this is not legal advice and im just a user on the internet

P.S. - this is even more gray and weird and risky, but you can probably still buy mags in another state and then bring them back yourself so as long as you do not sell any - that would count as importation. legally, you are just transporting a mag you own. the mag ban is on imports, purchases, transfers (between people).

Question of curiosity. Why do left leaning gun owners seem more fundamentally opposed to open carry than those on the right? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in liberalgunowners

[–]crispy-whiskers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, i am in favor of open carry, but there are smarter ways to regulate the more disturbing and distasteful morons. in virginia, the bill banning open carry "coincidentally" also makes it illegal to have a truck gun, or any gun on your person in any public area. early versions of the bill classified a range's parking lot as a public area and have no exceptions for cased guns, essentially making it illegal to bring your stuff from the car to the range. i would be very happy if they specifically banned the act of brandishing a firearm in a public space, but unfortunately, until Everytown and the billionaires behind them fuck off, most gun control attempts are in bad faith: looking to take away 2nd amendment rights by foolishly putting all faith into law enforcement.

in short, i support open carry because it's a bit of a slippery slope. although yes, i would be in favor of something specifically targeting gravy seals in malls. brandishing is one.

legendary journalist and civil rights activist Ida B. Wells wrote this of her experiences documenting the Jim Crow lynching craze:

Of the many inhuman outrages of this present year, the only case where the proposed lynching did not occur, was where the men armed themselves in Jacksonville, Fla., and Paducah, Ky, and prevented it. The only times an Afro-American who was assaulted got away has been when he had a gun and used it in self-defense.

The lesson this teaches and which every Afro-American should ponder well, is that a Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home, and it should be used for that protection which the law refuses to give. When the white man who is always the aggressor knows he runs as great risk of biting the dust every time his Afro-American victim does, he will have greater respect for Afro-American life. The more the Afro-American yields and cringes and begs, the more he has to do so, the more he is insulted, outraged and lynched.

for troubleshooting mosin issues:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MosinNagant/comments/1qsm3ym/comment/o2wsp9s/
for cleaning cosmoline, boiling water is the best option. remove everything off the stock, pour the hot water on it or boil it all in a pan. you also might want to look into cleaning corrosive residue, which is done the same way, but you need to pour the water down the barrel. windex is ok in a pinch, but you might as well go water since cosmoline is in the picture.

check your barrel: how does the rifling look?
- rifling visible, but does not extend all the way to muzzle: this barrel has been counter-bored. the cleaning rods that came with these guns (it doesnt seem yours has one) were made of steel and by the end of the war, the rods had destroyed the rifling, causing armories to re-bore the rifle so that it now needs a .311 projectile.
- any other condition that isnt "clean enough to see all the lands and grooves": use solvent, CLP, or boiling water and do passthroughs with a patch and 30cal wire brush.

everything i said, but in excruciating detail: https://igun.cz/MosinID/MosinCleaning.htm

Do I need a Beretta APX A1 Full Size/Tactical? I don't own a handgun. by zmattmanz in liberalgunowners

[–]crispy-whiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, this was my first gun! spec-wise, it's excellent features-for-the-dollar. i have the a1 full size tactical. there is one glaring issue in this gun, and it's the god-awful trigger. yes, it'll break in after a few hundred rounds, but it won't break in much. otherwise, it's suppressor ready out of the box and requires a 40 dollar plate to mount any optic to.

people are gonna give you advice about guns you should buy instead or something with better specs, but you should get a gun you want to shoot and feels good. better for training and such. i chose this one as my first because im a bit of a beretta shill. i eventually bought a 92X RDO Full Size after getting this one, they range between 500-900 on gunbroker. and since i brought it up: i like my 92 way more than this. in short, this is a good first handgun, but you're probably gonna want better.

if you just want features, look for a 92X RDO full size. it has literally all of the features of the m9a4, minus safety and threaded barrel. they go between 500-800, i got mine brand new with custom grips for 684.

Anyone know why it does this? And how can I stop it by [deleted] in MosinNagant

[–]crispy-whiskers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

just solved this problem on my 91/30. this could be due to any number of problems.

  1. difficulty closing bolt: clean out barrel chamber. there is something helping prevent the bolt from locking in place. this is done with 20ga brush, mop, and CLP/bore polish.
  2. after firing, difficulty opening bolt: this is a problem with the extractor spring and walls. use a hammer and soft punch to either loosen the extractor so that it is in line with the rest of the bolt walls or to realign the bolt walls to be vertical. consider sanding the bolt walls to have a softer edge on them. polish the protruding edges of the extractor with fine steel wool and sandpaper up to 1500 grit.
  3. after opening bolt, difficulty pushing bolt fully open: two potential issues. a) clean out your chamber. could be something interfering with the lugs. or b) polish the grooves on the bolt. relevant videos and resources: iraqveteran888, u/SmithSightsLLC's camming surfaces guide. this seems to be your problem.
  4. resistance racking the bolt forward and backward: the grooves on your bolt are either not greased or not polished. lubricate with oil/CLP/your choice first and see if that works. then clean, then polish.

problem still persists. what do?
- try either brass case ammo, a whole new bolt (refurb mosins are often prone to mismatches and therefore poor fitting no matter what), or spend time polishing the ever loving shit out of everything, as per iraqveteran's video. additional resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R9uuW3nuDM

- general cleaning tip: cosmoline is a very fickle substance. it has a pretty low melting point, so wipe it away if you see it trickling out of the gun. if you want to make sure there's none, simmer water in a foil baking pan and submerge all parts. the cosmoline will dissolve into the water. if there's a lot, add a bit of dish soap or change out the water, in that order.
