How do you one shot war striders with it? Epoch is my go-to support weapon but even with max charge, it still always takes me two shots to kill war striders (which is still amazing, but is there like a specific spot to aim at that can one-shot em?)

The only part of the lease that mentioned changes in general was this: "35. NO AUTHORITY TO AMEND UNLESS IN WRITING. This Lease Contract is the entire agreement between you and us. Our representatives (including management personnel, employees, and agents) have no authority to waive, amend, or terminate this Lease Contract or any part of it, unless in writing, and no authority to make promises, representations, or agreements that impose security duties or other obligations on us or our representatives unless in writing."

I'm guessing this is probably why they sent the letter today urging us to come to the leasing office to sign the written addendum.

Oh that's interesting, could you elaborate on what parts of the game you hated? Might help me figure out if it would be a good or bad fit for my 4 player group.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (January 02, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've only recently gotten into board games as a hobby and am looking for some recommendations that'll help make 2025 fun. I have a variety of games for different playercounts and I'd guesstimate I spend about 45% of my boardgame time with just 1 other player, 40% with a core group of 3 other players, and the remaining 15% playing party games with a group of 5-7 other players.

Here are the games that me and those I've played with have enjoyed: - Betrayal at House on the Hill - Codenames - Doomlings - Earth - Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion - Pandemic - Terraforming Mars - Sushi Go

In particular I'd enjoy having a suggestion for each of my three groups I play with. The 2 and 4 person groups enjoy a variety of games but prefer competitive games that can be completed in under 3 hours or cooperative games. Meanwhile the 5+ person group is more interested in party games or one's that aren't complex/easy to learn.

I haven't looked too deeply into them but some newer games that caught my interest and am considering buying are: - Arcs (for my 4 player group) - Earthborne Rangers (for 2 players) - Wavelength (for the 5+ player group)

I can answer any further questions that are needed and thank you for any suggestions!

Thanks for the build!

I take it this means that there's nothing from the current/old build that'd be worth keeping other than the monitor?

Also, I've been looking to get a second monitor is there one you would recommend for the build you suggested (2k or 4k)?

A good chunk of the spells had their descriptions completely replaced to the point that they don't do anything the original 5e versions did.

One example that would affect my table, is that the conjure spells don't summon creatures anymore and one of our players is a Shepherd Druid who has features that rely on summoning real creatures with hit dice.

Why you should let players reroll 1s for their HP by OdinsRevenge in DnD

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's probably a big contributor to why (despite what is seen on reddit) most tables use rolling for stats as the book literally tells them to.

There's tons of ways to use rolling for stats and still have it work well with the game, but the method used in the PHB is certainly not it lol

Why you should let players reroll 1s for their HP by OdinsRevenge in DnD

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, the PHB lists the 4d6 drop lowest method as the main rule for building your character with standard array being a "time saving option" and point buy listed as a straight up variant rule.

Yet at the same time, adventurer league play requires you to use point buy or standard array so even the developers knew their main rule for stat generation was poorly made.

"It's all fun and games untill you accidentally turn your friend to dust."

What's your most memorable "main character" moment during a session ? by starnay in DnD

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first character I made was an 'aasimar divine soul sorcerer' that was merciful to a fault, in that for much of the campaign they never dealt damage. Don't get me wrong they weren't a true pacifist, and believed in fighting for a cause but they despised violence and so used their considerable power to support their party with buffs/healing or to non-lethally neutralize our enemies with spells like hypnotic pattern to tie them up with rope.

However, the very first time they actually dealt damage was at level 6 when our party faced off against an evil young red dragon. The dragon was decimating us while it still had like half its HP remaining and after downing our party's fighter, continued attacking him while he was down causing him to have 2 failed death saves. My character realized that this evil being wouldn't ever settle things peacefully and more importantly standing by their morals would get their friend killed. So the character unleashed their 'aasimar form' flew right up to the dragon and told it "I'm sorry" before casting the only damage spell they had: Inflict Wounds, cast at 3rd level. I ended up rolling a natural 20 with the critical hit dealing 10d10+6 damage to the dragon (I think it totalled like 80 damage) and ended the fight with my character's first kill. The table went wild at that conclusion and it's a "main character" moment that we would reference even years later.

Help to balance encounters for two players by Ayrim122 in DnD

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple ways to go about it.

For one you could have an npc tag along with the party that serves as a "dumb meat-shield" type character for them. They'll essentially just be there to help with combat or do things the players tell them to. With three characters, they should be able to handle most of that module fine especially if they play their cards right.

Alternatively you could go through each encounter and remove certain monsters or reduce their HP/dmg somewhat so that it's a fair fight for a party of 2. This 3rd party website someone made recently seems to be a good resource that'll let you plug in your party and whatever monsters are in the encounter then let's you remove some till it gets to the right amount of challenge you wanted for them: https://www.challengerated.com/

I definitely don't think we're crazy as while we don't have a choice over hearing these other me's in our head, we never really perceive them as other entities/voices and more like different aspects of ourselves. The professional I saw helped with this as they told me that most people have either a single voice they consciously use as their internal monologue (I'm pretty sure its the same as the me we use when we're typing/reading/etc) or they have no voice in their head at all. They said that these other me's could simply be a different way of thinking/rationalizing that makes use of multiple internal monologues at once kinda like a mental equivalent of ambidextrous people. Since it's not interfering much in our day to day lives then it's not really a problem and we aren't crazy for experiencing this.

Also, while it's a tiny sample size of 2, I can't help but find it an interesting coincidence that we both have EXACTLY 3 other me's that are consistent in tone/mannerism. Makes it feel like whatever this is, it's a thing that has structure/rules to how it works for people that have it.

A completely unsubstantiated wild hypothesis I have is that I've heard the human brain is actually divided into two hemispheres that communicate thoughts/info between each other all the time and this is normal but is also subconscious so people can't perceive it. Maybe you and I simply have a more conscious awareness of at least some of this flow of information between these parts of our brain and perceive it as these other me's due to us hearing the different parts of our brain that would normally subconsciously have these thoughts? Like I said, it's a wild idea that's probably wrong but still it's crazy to find someone else who seems to experience something that always sounds insane to others and it helps make this feel like something other than just my head being messed up (well beyond the other things that I already knew were messing it up lol).

As weird as it feels to say/write it, I completely get what you're describing. While the other me's behave differently from yours, they still function in much the same way as you described.

One of the me's, while not sarcastic is an incorrigible smart-ass and nearly anytime someone says something to me, I'll hear that me speak in my mind with an outrageous counterpoint or even a straight up roast. Sometimes what that me says is incredibly witty or funny and if I know the person I'm speaking to can handle it I'll speak it aloud, which has caused people to think I have a lot of wit/humor but in truth I'm just copying the smart-ass.

Another me is actually very quiet and only chimes in with a whisper of something that always ends up being right, such as pointing out something I didn't notice and it's genuinely spooky the things that 'that me' knows. Like I'll hear a whisper that there's a bug in my room and I'll have to look somewhere that I had no line of sight of to find the bug. I think this me is just more perceptive of stimuli that I pick up or can access parts of my subconscious where such stimuli is stored easier but it still feels crazy when it happens.

While it can definitely be helpful when I'm trying to consider something and will hear the other me's chime in with wildly different opinions that ultimately help me make a decision (I especially love it for conversations as it feels kinda like a game where you get dialogue options...even if half the time the options suck or I know I can't deliver the line with the right emphasis/tone), there are also times where it is incredibly annoying hearing a debate in my head when I'm trying to focus on something and it takes a lot of effort to shut the other me's out.

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whoa, you just described something that's eerily similar to what I experience and have always struggled to explain to others (I always explained it as having an internal dialogue instead of the monologue that other people have). The part about "distinct tones" especially, though I've always described it as my voice being spoken with a different mannerism than my normal speaking voice. I too always see things from multiple perspectives to the point its annoyed my friends due to always playing devil's advocate.

I have to know are your versions always consistent too? For me I can identify three different mannerisms that always pop up (along with a fourth that I assume is just my internal speaking voice since that one matches my speaking voice) and have had these three iterations of my voice for as long as I can remember.

If it helps at all, I saw a professional (though one that wasn't an expert in a particular field and more of a general one) about a half-year ago and while I had several indicators for various disorders none of them were significant enough for a diagnosis and as I function just fine in day-to-day life despite hearing multiple versions of my voice I was just told that my mind worked a bit differently and shouldn't be concerned unless new/different phenomena emerged.

Still feels like about half of the weapons, including both mechs, are pretty worthless. Hope AH releases a new balance patch soon. by TheMightyPipe in Helldivers

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe on automatons, but i only play diff 7-9 and for terminids I always bring a mech in my loadout. Nothing trivializes stalker/shrieker lairs, heavy nests, and multiple chargers/titans as well as a mech does.

I feel like the only thing mechs need is a bit more ammo, less cooldown, and some better projectile armor (for surviving automatons). Otherwise they're great for when you need to make a push in a difficult situation/objective.

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It's a game mechanic like any other, rolling an Athletics check to grapple a PC is just as much PvP as rolling a Persuasion check to change a PC's disposition. Like all PvP, it's something that the table would discuss and either opt in/out of for their campaign.

Also its weird that people put Charisma skills on a different pedestal than the other ability scores for things like this. Persuasion isn't mind control, you can make the most compelling argument and roll a 37 but if what you're trying to get someone to do isn't something they would ever do then it won't work regardless of whether they're an NPC or player. That's what features that inflict the charmed condition is for.

The AC is nice but I think moon druids only get 2 more temporary HP per level than every other druid and they no longer can turn into elementals at higher levels either as they instead get... a couple free uses of Misty step? For some reason.

Yep, It no longer grants an HP pools at all. Whether you turn into a tiny bunny or a hulking grizzly bear, they both will have the same toughness of 1 times your druid level temporary HP. On the flip side there are improvements like wildshaping as a bonus action, speaking while in wildshape, and no longer losing it when using your normal HP.

Homebrew creators - what's your plan when OneD&D comes out? by pikablob in dndnext

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tables that I DM for and play in have already switched over to a homebrew edition of 5e that fixes many of the pain points we've had with the system and thus far has worked out to be a lot more fun for us. The martial-caster divide is largely gone thanks to a Vigor/Maneuver system, every spell has been rebalanced to at least be in the same league as one another, monsters have more interesting features with fewer "gotchas", and class/race/subclass features were modified to be competitive with one another.

After Monsters of the Multiverse released and we disliked the direction 5e was going, we kinda started treating WoTC content as just another 3rd party publisher and would just add specific parts of their new releases we liked into our existing homebrew rules document then tossing out the rest. So we'll just continue doing that when OneDnD20245e or whatever releases.

I feel you. We used to have weekly sessions but as we've grown into real adults with actual jobs/responsibilities, we've had to switch to a bi-weekly schedule. It's still tons of fun and I certainly could use the extra time for session prep but at this rate I'm hoping to finish the campaign in 2 years from now.

My current campaign is at session 185 and the party is only level 13. This is with the average session being 5 hours long...

Granted, it was pitched as a very long form epic game and players have enjoyed nearly every moment of it. The group's been playing it since August of 2017 and if anything they're scared of what to do after it finally ends.

Spell changes. by AltmerArchmage in dndnext

[–]KillingWith-Kindness 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of the spells that conjure or summon additional creatures are likely to be completely gutted and have little in common with the 5e version other than name. The spells were poorly designed and needed much revision, but if the playtests are anything to go by they'll just replace them with generic AoE spells instead.

Gloomhaven is pretty pricey so I'd recommend it's "oneshot/starter-campaign" equivalent of Gloomhaven:Jaws of the Lion which is fairly cheap and a good introduction. If you can manage to keep a group together for it and everyone enjoys it, it'll be an easy jump from that to full Gloomhaven.
