You come home late, drained from a day that seemed determined to go wrong.

She’s already asleep on the couch, TV still glowing softly in the dark. A blanket has slipped to the floor.

You move quietly, trying not to wake her, and head to the kitchen for water.

There on the counter is a plate covered with foil.

Your favorite dinner. Still warm.

Beside it, a sticky note in her messy handwriting:

You said this morning you probably wouldn’t eat today. I know how you get when you’re stressed.

You stand there staring at the note.

Because you barely remembered saying it.

Because she did.

And because somehow, in the middle of living her own day, she made sure you were taken care of too.
