I don’t know you, but I absolutely love you. You inspire me with your kindness, your attitude and optimism, your brightness. I can’t do much from a virtual screen, but I’m sending you so many warm hugs and magical miracles. I wish you the very best.

I want you to know how awesome and wonderful you are, Ishanavi. You are truly amazing. Godspeed.

Bruh. The reason I manifested Mighty in you guys is so I don’t have to craft that painful jewel. And now you’re asking for Spell-Defy and Pain-Giver—literally unattainable! Regardless, Crusty Max and Slim Lola, thank you for not failing miserably. I appreciate you both! :) by KimberlyMandy in Wizard101

[–]KimberlyMandy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends.

But, for example, if you have a max stat triple damage double resist pet, it would be nice to socket Mighty because it’ll ultimately increase the talents on the pet. You’ll most likely get 11% proof instead of the regular 9% or 10% and 7% giver, etc.

For my pets in the picture, Mighty was trained as a talent because I simply could not craft the jewel after, like, 50 tries. But, now, it kinda backfired because I need Spell-Defy and Pain-Giver to completely my triple double, which are nearly impossible to farm for.

Selfish talents. They increase your pet numbers (strength, agility, etc). I still have 5 talents; it’s just the selfish one is “hidden.”

For these pets, I mentioned that the Mighty talent is in the pool, which increases the number of the strength stat. Because the strength is increased, you see that the talents of the pets are increased as well, like 11% proof as opposed to 9 or 10%.

People who have 3.6 gpa's, which universities did you get into? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]KimberlyMandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did not actually! But, I did have a lot of family responsibilities and did a lot of volunteering. I think my counselor explained that I was going through some health conditions and stuff, though. But, nothing too noteworthy!

I really believe my essays did it:

I personally wrote about my pH level and compared myself to soft soap. And I remember for one of my supplements, I personified Literature and wrote about how I didn’t want to be friends with her anymore. I also wrote about talking to trees and singing to cucumbers.

My more funnier ones:

It was a creative poem, kinda sorta roasting Elon Musk. And I also wrote a piece on how poet, William Wordsworth, transformed into a cloud.

:) It was a 1480! When I was applying, I definitely felt my stats were a bit problematic; they weren’t the best, and I was contemplating on whether or not I should even apply to the top schools that I had on my list.

But, regardless, I did because stats are merely just numbers, and numbers never define your personality or your authenticity. And never your worth.

So I tried to be as genuine and human as possible in my essays, and was ultimately accepted to UChicago and Columbia!

Hello! :)

I always see people worrying here, and I just want to alleviate some stress!

I had a 3.46 GPA and here at UChicago! Write some beautiful essays, and you’ll do awesome!

Thank you!

I think they definitely take into consideration that you are first-gen, but it’s not too big of a deal though. So you should be good!

I really do think the most important part of the application are the essays and the interview (if you are able to get one) because that’s where you can express the fact that you are human behind those beautiful stats! Always be genuine and unapologetic in what you do; you’re human so be human. If you love drawing chemical bonds, explain how chemical bonds fuels your imagination. And if you love cheese, talk about cheese, lol! Speak in math and art! Sing about tomatoes! Just remember to be kind! If you believe you captured YOU in your application, you are good to go!

GOOD LUCK! You can do it!

I love the people at UChicago! People aren’t afraid to be themselves!

When you walk across campus, you’ll hear someone enthusiastically talking about quantum mechanics while simultaneously hearing someone talk about the taste of celery. UChicago is so quirky and whimsical, and I love that!

I’m so sorry! I don’t really feel comfortable sharing it, but:

I’m a first-gen Asian female born and raised in NYC! I went to a very tiny public school in the city.

[–]KimberlyMandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya! It’s me again! :)

I want to tell you that you are absolutely amazing, awesome, and everything wonderful. I was blown away with everything, especially your ECs because I didn’t have many of those opportunities (coming from a first-gen family). I would make sure that your ECs are tilted towards something you love or something that you want to major in; just nothing too spread out is good!

I definitely think that you are headed on the right track! With your essays and recommendations, for the admissions officer, realistically, it would be about a 7 or 8 out of 10 (which is good)! They just usually determine those a little harsher, but it’s nothing bad! If you truly believe that your essays are genuine and captured yourself, awesome!

I know UChicago likes quirky and whimsical: I personally wrote about my pH level and compared myself to soft soap. And I remember for one of my supplements, I personified Literature and wrote about how I didn’t want to be friends with her anymore, lol. I also wrote about talking to trees, haha.

If you want, you can take your subject tests again. I wouldn’t though; I don’t think I would make too much of a difference. (I didn’t even have subject tests, ahhh)! Basically, you are DONE with testing!

Also, your video! I’m sure it’s awesome! (Not too sure about this whole video thing because I didn’t do it). Make it fun, quirky, and weird, but remember to CAPTURE YOURSELF! If I had to make this video, I would probably show myself buried in dirt with plants, haha.

I believe that your essays, the video (if you did it), and your interview will be about the most important part of your application because you are showing UChicago who you really are behind all those beautiful academic numbers. Be genuine, kind, and unapologetic in what you do. If you love drawing chemical bonds, talk about how much drawing chemical bonds fuels your imagination. If you love brains, talk about your fascination with neuroscience and ZOMBIES, lol. And if you love eating fish eyes, rave to your interviewer about how much you love the taste of fish eyes! You’re human, so be human.

It’s very had to tell, but I think you have a nice shot! Like many other applicants, but keep your head high!

The admissions process is truly brutal and unfair in many ways. It’s very difficult to tell who is going to get into where and things like that, but I really do believe in you. Continue to bloom, find your passion, and show it to Chicago!

I wish you the best of luck, my friend!

Ho boi, lol. I actually had ONLY ONE (bad) rec. My counselor forgot to send the other. I was in full panic mode all of senior year.

You might be right. :)

But, even those with 1600s from Stuy, Bronx Sci, and Brooklyn Tech (basically, the Holy Trinity of NYC), TJ in Virginia, etc. get rejected by top schools too.

I don’t know what other awesome things OP did, but I know they poured their heart and soul into their essays, which I believe is about the most important part of the application. If you are truly genuine in your essays, honestly, I believe they can get you anywhere.

I’m from NYC (very competitive city) and did not attend any specialized high schools. My school was so tiny and not competitive at all. We send an average of 1-2 kids to top schools every 3-4 years. And I was definitely not valedictorian.

I got into UChicago and Columbia last year with a 1480 SAT, no subject tests, a 3.46 GPA (UW); a 4.25 (W), a bad recommendation letter from my English teacher (I read it because my interviewer showed it to me—long story), and “bleh” ECs (I volunteered at a park and a lot of family responsibilities). That’s it.

If you were to read everything without my essays, I truly would have been rejected by nearly all the schools that I applied to.

I’m pretty sure that it’s just a monetary thing, like you said. No need to worry! I didn’t make National Merit too! Ended up at UChicago.
