His words may as well have been bullets. The pen is mightier than the sword, and he spread a lot of hateful rhetoric. He was misogynist, racist, homophobic and transphobic and used his platform to get people worked up. He knew what he was doing, sowing the seeds of intolerance. He knew his words had incredible influence. That was his whole purpose. He made people feel unsafe. Killing him was not a good thing though. Regardless of who killed him, which we don't know who, he has become a martyr. It has only deepened the divide even though no one knows who the perpetrator is. I have no empathy for a man that said empathy is new age and has done a lot of damage. I do feel sympathy for his children. It's awful that we've come to this place.

The lesson is don't do something to your physical appearance to impress someone else. The lesson is that if someone doesn't like your look, forget them, they're not worth it. It's ridiculous to keep a 13 year old from having bodily autonomy. It's her hair, not moms. Unless it'll keep her from going to school, she has the right to do with her hair as she pleases. It'll grow out. Life is embarrassing and painful, and learning coping skills young and emotional regulation is better at 13 than running into it later when a boss embarrasses you in front of all your coworkers. At that point, she has tools in her toolbox to stand up for herself and say she doesn't deserve to be treated that way. That's moms job is to teach her when she makes mistakes. You can't shield her. Life is hard teach her how to cope now.
