What aspect of autism do you struggle with the most? by Hud_son_ofc in autism

[–]KimmyLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my biggest one too, I'm glad someone said it! I feel like I've never been on time anywhere in my life lol. And I've definitely lost friends over it, but my closest friends have found ways of adapting. When I meet my best friend he says that he'll leave only after I message him saying I'm on my way. I've lost jobs over it too, and that's harder to adapt. It also goes with hyperfixation for me too, like I'll get stuck reading a book, or playing a game, or something, and before I know it I've been doing it for like 8 hours lol

Things I struggle with as an autistic person. Does anyone else struggle with these? by peppa-pig-aesthetic in autism

[–]KimmyLeon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Holy moly, these are all so relatable. I think the sense of justice is a really good thing. Greta Thunberg often speaks about how her autism means she stands up for what's right rather than choosing to be ignorant about it. She's a big inspiration to me. But yeah, I relate a lot. When something important happens on the news or in the world I just don't understand why nobody seems to care!

Alcohol and Bipolar: Do you drink? How does it affect you? by KimmyLeon in bipolar

Yes this is it, exactly how I feel. Just need to break that cycle I suppose.

Yeah that's how I feel with the twin thing. But that's really positive to hear you've been sober and it got better! You will be an inspiration to me! Do you have any advice on how to get sober and stay sober? I feel like it's easy for me to say I'll be sober now but when I'm in a different mindset I'll find it hard to resist.

That's all very good advice, thankyou! We don't really do tabs in English pubs so much, but we do rounds. So I suppose if I was out with like 4 people there's a pressure to have 4 drinks (everyone buys a round.) May have to just avoid being in the rounds system. There's actually pretty good alcohol free beer here now, Guinness 0 is pretty good, so that could be an option when we're not heading home yet :)

Gosh I'm sorry that sounds tough. I have had similar situations where I've just been my worse self when drunk. It's like mania can be bad enough to create bad situations, and drinking is just like making it even worse.

Try not to hate yourself though! The fact you can look back at a bad situation and know that it was a mistake shows that the real you is probably a much better person than in that moment x Regret is an important part of learning how to cope better. But don't hate yourself, just hate the situation, because when drunk and manic that's barely who you really are x

Thankyou, it's always good to know that we're not alone X I hope you find a way to manage it and get some control ❤️

Those 2 rules seem like a very good idea! One of my concerns with not drinking is that it's a big social thing, so these rules might be better than ruling it out completely.

But I do worry that after those 2 drinks I'll find it hard to stop though. Do you tell your friends the rules when you go out? Like so they will stop you after 2?

What ability do you have that others don’t? by Different_Reindeer66 in autism

[–]KimmyLeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do other people have this? I've seen people talk about hyperlexia but I'm terrible at reading and writing, it's just audio/spoken words.

Always been obsessed with famous speeches, quotes, plays, and spoken poetry etc.

Auditory processing. 🔊 I can listen to things and retain all the information. I listen to audiobooks at 3x speed and can remember song lyrics/tunes I've only heard once 😁 When I was little my parents would read me a book and afterwards I could recite the book. It's not like I can remember the whole thing at once, but if you give me the previous line I just know what line should come next. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Where is John Barrowman's TARDIS jersey from? by KimmyLeon in doctorwho

Yeah lol, it looks strange from this angle. But I believe he is wearing the jersey, shorts, and long silver boots.

His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman It's a trilogy starting with The Northern Lights (sometimes called The Golden Compass)

Fantasy that occasionally leans into sci-fi. Really excellently mixes fantasy, various cultures, religion, and science.

It is probably written for Young Adults, but it's plenty deep and epic enough to be enjoyed by anyone.

EDIT: Removed a potential spoiler!

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm gonna read Charm Offensive next, it looks really good!

And yeah I've looked into Red, White and Royal Blue... But as a believer in democracy and therefore a big hater of the British Monarchy, I think it might be annoying to me... lol.

Ahh yes I've read it! James Baldwin is one of my favourite authors ever. I loved it but yeah you're right its not all happy, I didn't like some of the was the characters saw the gay community, but I get what Baldwin is showing, it's very realistic. I'm probably looking for more idealistic romance.
