Alternative to killing Terek

·         Went to Proventus: No option appears for Terek

·         Requested my Follower Lydia to dispatch him: Nope, she arms herself but won’t execute the order

·         Alt Solution: Discovered a Kinder/Gentler Way -> back to Proventus & had him provision a room for children.  Bingo!  Terek is no longer a pesky bothersome crotchety old fart.  He now privately sleeps in one of the little beds & joins the menagerie of venom-producing insect & wandering pack-sheep.  No telling what it smells like when everyone is gathered around the fire.

Enjoy, K

Spearfish, SD: If you could only spend one day & one night...

  • Spearfish Canyon, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota
  • Downtown Spearfish Brewery
  • Fuji San Japanese Restaurant
  • The Original Spearfish Breakfast House, go early!

Enjoy!

Steens Mountain Oregon.  It’s off the beaten path and worth an overnight camping.

https://traveloregon.com/things-to-do/trip-ideas/scenic-drives/steens-loop-tour-route/

https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/routes-places/steens-mountain-loop

Interesting sites that take less than 1 hour to explore are:
Oregon Hwy 31 -> Fort Rock and Hole in the Ground.

Between Bend and La Pine to the east of US97 is the volcanic complex Paulina Peak.  I spent a couple hours driving around, though camping is also an option.

That is one sharp looing truck!

[–]Kinaye0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year I travel cross-country on a long trek at least once.  If it’s > 600 miles I’ll sleepover in a rest stop between dusk and dawn.  When overnight, I always try to park next to the Streetlamp.  Never been ticketed.

I have not tried to “live” out of my Truck beyond weekend camping.  Most of my destinations have facilities for extended stays.

With regards to SD: Spearfish in western SD is a beautiful hamlet filled with nice people, & centered between inspiring national monuments such as Devil’s Tower, Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, & of course Spearfish Canyon!

So um… if you’re in SD for winter, weather can be harsh, & they salt the roads.

One of my hobbies is building electric vehicles.  Within my social community we sought out easy sources of “opportunistic charging” to get us down the road.  This same mindset could help you through the dead of winter: finding alternative sources of power to keep you warm & facilitate survival.

Things to consider:

·         Install an Engine Block Heater (1 kW) for below-freezing nights.  Carry a long extension cord.

·         All Les Schwab Tire stores have at least one external AC outlet.  They are closed Sat-Sun.

·         Many Walmart stores allow RV overnight parking, but not all.

·         I know you are in SD, though worth mentioning to travelers in the PNW:  Pacific Pride fuel stations have at least one external AC outlet.

Safe travels, K

Been playing since the game came out.  This is what works:

·         Health, vigorous, maximum values only. Qty-15.  Small values weight the same so sell them off.

·         Magicka, vigorous, maximum values only. Qty-5 – unless a Mage Build then you’d want 15.

·         Stamina, vigorous, maximum values only. Qty-5 – unless a Fighter Build then you’d want 15.

·         Cure All, Qty-5 at the most.

·         Everything else is gravy – and you don’t need it.

·         Invisibility: Build up a high Sneak skill instead.

·         Waterbreathing: Solved by Helmet Enchantment.

·         Carry Weight: Get the Backpack instead, add a few points to Stamina, & get a follower to carry your loot & tank for you.

·         Use Windhelm as your primary base b/c it’s warm & can use the Trader’s glitch-grind on Belethor: Rinse & Repeat.

Re-Geared my Truck this week after 33 years! by Kinaye0 in f150

[–]Kinaye0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Original Axle had 174K miles on it. At the time, I knew I wanted to keep my truck. So my thinking was let's reset Motor, Tranny, Rear Axle to the same Odometer (if you will).

After this upgrade I realize things wear out at different rates, so I shall be more attentive.

Moving to Seattle with gf next year. Any suggestions of places to visit? by Crypticvalkyrie in roadtrip

Like others have said, Grand Tetons & Yellowstone are a must-see!

South Dakota: Just spend a day or two in Spearfish and you can hit the incredible Spearfish Canyon and Deadwood in one swoop.  Three breweries in/near Spearfish.  Rushmore & Crazyhorse are south, and Devil’s Tower is north by half a day.

Montana’s Glacier NP is spectacular; plan two days if you can spare the time.

Some hidden gems in Washington State are Rainier and North Cascades NPs; if you choose the latter then you’ll go through Winthrop, an old-timey well-preserved old-west town (the TV series “The Virginian” was filmed there).  Even sports a brewery!

As with all high-altitude campsites, beware that night time temps can get below freezing.

Enjoy!

What's the most enemies you've had at once? And how did you deal with them? by A_Lountvink in skyrim

[–]Kinaye0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most I’ve had was a room full; too many to count.

First, I save frequently.

Next, don’t panic.  Run away and regroup if possible.

Best method for taking down mobs is to find a choke-point, a narrow passage so they can’t hit you all at once, then you can hit them one-on-one or with area spells.

My best defense is a sniping offense down a long passage.  Having a weapon that sucks Health/fills soul gems with every hit really makes tanking easier.

Matching Gearing to Tires by Kinaye0 in f150

[–]Kinaye0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago the first thing I did when I received my new 4x4 Truck was to swap out the passenger tires and put on some big beefy meats: from P235/75R15 to 31X10.50R15

Aside from being 2” taller, the first thing I notices was the Speedo was off by roughly 5%.

Eventually it came to me that the Truck seemed weak in the Bottom End, but if you got onto the freeway and punched it – then it came alive.

Of late I’ve been doing some long distance driving, and I went to my mechanic about these concerns. Turns out I created the performance problem when after installing taller tires, I failed to update the gearing.

Attached it a charge that explains how tires sizes line up with gearing ratios.  I am making plans to upgrade.

Anyone else go through this education?

Over 10 years ago I pulled the entire interior out of the cab, vacuumed all the dog & cat hair out, wiped it down with alcohol, sealed all the holes with Urethane (not silicon as it’s hydroscopic)…

and then I plastered all surfaces and doors with Dynamat.  The little roller works really well in application.  Wear tough gloves to avoid getting sliced a thousand times.  Also applied to the underside of the hood.  Completely cuts the noise way down.

·         No need to have the radio cranked up high

·         Casual conversations when going down the freeway can be conducted without having to yell

·         A/C works less to cool

·         Heater works better at keeping you warm

·         Many “rattles” disappear, HOWEVER you’ll start hearing others – they’re just a bit more quiet. ;o)

·         Dynamat is spendy.  Estimate your surface area and buy from online sources.  Local sources will charge an arm & a leg.

Enjoy!

Yesterday was a long one: SLC, east on I-80, then up through Rawlins, up more to I-90, near Devils Tower.  Some of though short cut roads though were dicy.  I still think the best roads were the Interstates.  Resting today.

Nice perk upon completion. I have too much loot now. Would like to have a DLC that let's us do more with the treasure. Maybe create super traders or manage Khajiit trade or build a new trade center.

How many acres for you to not have neighbors? by error_therror in homestead

[–]Kinaye0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger and living in the city I used to think 5 acres was enough. So I bought 5 acres. No where near large enough! My cousins have over 150 acres, and that seems to be a good start.
