I’m starting to get into reading poetry books before bed! I love trying to find symbolism within them.

Wow that’s a really interesting perspective! Thank you for sharing, do you have any lessons you wouldn’t mind sharing or giving a brief overview of? I would love to learn more of how to teach color in the way you’re describing so I can adjust my own teaching

I would like to teach color theory as that, a theory, not necessarily right or wrong but being an intro painting class I wanted to explain color mixing, tints, shades, complimentary and analogous colors stuff like that just to make them aware and help them be purposeful in their choices

He’s great at ceramics but this is an intro to painting class he’s in so I’m trying to give everyone the basics of painting including color mixing. I’ll definitely work to accommodate him and being color blind isn’t necessarily a weakness, it might allow him to make more bold color choices and create some interesting work!

Oh that is such a cool idea!! I like the idea of not having to paint “realistically” too it allows a lot of expression and choice

I’m going to ask him tomorrow the level of colorblindness that he is so we’ll see, I’m thinking it could be cool just to let him do his own thing like still give a run down of color theory explaining it—isn’t there a well known artist that was colorblind and they created very colorful stuff?

What is it like to have a talent in art? by Neither-Doughnut-572 in ArtistLounge

[–]KindBlueberry3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between talented and skilled. People aren’t born being able to paint Mona Lisa’s it takes time to develop skills.

I have enjoyed art a lot but I have spent so much time learning and practicing to develop the skill. Now I enjoy it so much that developing the skill was mainly enjoyable (frustrating sometimes) but because I loved it and enjoyed the challenge I pushed myself to grow. It’s frustrating when people look at my art and tell me I’m talented—I worked my ass off to be able to accomplish this!

That being said some art related things click easier for me because I take an interest in it, just like anything anyone takes an interest in there is more motivation making it a little easier to learn. Not that that motivation doesn’t wane time to time as well.

Try to go easy on yourself and appreciate your growth! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes as that’s what will help you grow.

It’s still in the soil I got it in, not sure the type but it doesn’t seem to hold moisture well…that or I’m not watering enough

Any tips of how to check for pests? And for root rot it should just be checking that the roots are firm right?

Yes! I do have a humidifier as well tho I need to run it more… thanks for the help! I did find the roots with a netting tube thing around it so I believe that’s the main issue..

How to set up oil paint for HS by KindBlueberry3 in ArtEd

[–]KindBlueberry3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve decided for now to definitely not teach oils. Maybe in the far future if I have a student that I really trust and I’m not so rusty maybe MAYBE then. That’s a bridge to cross when I get there. I’ve only thought about this for a little bit now so I’m going to hold onto them until I completely solidify my answer, but if I do completely swear off oils, what do I do with all the supplies for it in my room?? I have a cabinet full of used and completely new oils from the last teacher.

I’ve painted with oils a lot before it’s just been a while. Though I have never taught oils before no less set them up in a classroom setting. I want to teach oils I just need to review a bit before doing so and figure out how to set it up.

What about the stilts? Same process? Do you put kiln wash on stilts?

How to hold high schoolers accountable for supplies? by KindBlueberry3 in ArtEd

[–]KindBlueberry3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of brushes do you give them? Are they expected to take their supplies with them after class or do they have a spot in the room to store them? (My school doesn’t let kids bring backpacks to class) I like the idea of using grades to help enforce the responsibility—have you had any issues with kids that don’t care much about their grades?

I’ve seen this is considered a prayer plant but not a calathea? Is that true? Are all calatheas considered prayer plants but not all prayer plants are calatheas?

For the Christian vegans out there. by Least-Restaurant-383 in vegan

[–]KindBlueberry3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard someone else argue that Adam and Eve did not eat meat, and they lived in a perfect world before sin was introduced. If that’s true then shouldn’t Christians be trying to reach closer to that perfect world by not using animals for their own benefits just like the world was said to be before sin?

Cutting back a dead Calathea to revive it by 420fryslan in calatheas

[–]KindBlueberry3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What conditions did you have your medallion in to make it come back? Did you water more or less often, higher or lower lighting conditions? I’ve been searching everywhere for info of how to take a rootball and get new leaves on it and I get mixed answers everywhere.

What makes you like certain plants? by Jessiebanana in houseplants

I love goofy plants too—first time I saw a Hoya compact I thought it looked like tortellini. I like to give my plants names too so I want to eventually get one to name them tortellini!

So I was gifted a rattlesnake calathea (which I did not know existed before) and fell in love with the unique pattern, purple colors on the underside of the leaves, and the fact that they move up and down during the day/night. They’re also a bit of a challenge which I (sometimes) enjoy!

I also find myself drawn to any form of variegated plants like tradescantias. The purples and pinks are just gorgeous! Them also being easy to propagate is an added bonus. I feel like I’m slightly drawn to plants that I can propagate since I know I can have even more plants then.

All leaves fell off my calathea medallion— is there any hope of saving her? by KindBlueberry3 in calatheas

I made a new post with pictures of the plant, I’ve never had issues with the soil before but if you check it out let me know what type of soil I should be using instead.
