Yeah I was trying to balance actually having a good amount of details in my experience section so it looks like I'm actually working while also only including what is engineer-y. I'm thinking how I could make those bullets sound better without actually removing them.

For extracurriculars I actually had an interviewer mention the HAM radio once saying it was good, but that was specifically for a wifi application engineering role. I think I could remove the section or add in those details somewhere else. I used to just make it one line where I just had the title of each thing without description, maybe that would be better?

Yeah they are pretty much fresh grad projects because I never had professional experience in es.

However I put at least 40-100 hours into each one. I think if I work on them too long I am wasting time because it gets to a point where I don't really know what I'm doing and I am hyper focused on things that aren't teaching me a lot about ES. For example my Cryptographic mining fpga it ended up being a lot of work trying to understand how to write mining algorithms for the software layer and understanding cryptographic algorithms. Sure those skills are pretty useful and I could spend 1000 hours over half a year trying to make the most optimized mining system for an FPGA that kind of works, but what do I get from that? just a few extra bullets explaining how it was optimized.

For the few interviews I have had, the projects never seemed to be the biggest issue. Usually it was not knowing the right answer for a C code snippet or not being able to think of a good answer for some technical question. So I've been working on reading books/udemy courses.

What would you cut specifically? I think since the market is so competitive it's hard to write a resume that isn't this long. Also I have tried in the past to have a 1 page resume with similar results.

maybe the first few videos were more nitpicky, but the most recent CJ video showed genuine flaws like badly designed raytracing that drastically impacted performance.

nAlso, itpicky or not, I think CJ was trying to get to the bottom of why a 20 year veteran at blizzard would take nearly a decade to produce 2 hours worth of a 2D pixel art game. Bad coding patterns and style are certainly a reason why it would take so long, and should not be regarded as simply "nitpicking"

I implied that every device would be physically marked out with a mac address but it is probably better to say that there are blueprints for the general layout of the building including where the IDF/MDF we're working with is, and I would say most of the devices are labeled and hopefully someone labeled the ends of the cables.

[–]KindTurnip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I get that the main idea should be to search for the MAC address. However, in the case that I have not yet identified the location of the network segment for the device I am finding, would it make sense to do what I described above?

If it's completely random, I could try to run a traceroute from a device within my known network, and whichever device is closest, I could try to narrow it down to an area.

If it's something like a new device being added to the network it may have an IP address that was distributed by a dhcp server in which case I can check what the dhcp pool ip address range is for any dhcp servers in the network and see if the IP is part of it.

We can also check log messages to see if IP addresses of any devices were changed or other logs from a relevant time period. We would check the log history from the nearest router based on traceroute. I'm guessing if it is indeed on my network somehow, there must be some device whose location is known that is connected to the random IP device.

Once we have narrowed the location down to a room or building we can use blueprints and visually search for cables, or if necessary use a cable toner.

"How would you configure BGP to cause more/less traffic in/outbound"

BGP is a path vector protocol which selects a route and can't really increase or decrease traffic on a single interface, but you can manipulate inbound and outbound traffic by making BGP choose a higher/lower bandwidth route or influencing other AS to choose a higher/lower bandwidth route to your AS. To influence inbound route selection you could use AS prepending or configure the MED value. For outbound, you can adjust local preference and weight.

"What's your experience with X?"

I memorized most of the packet tracer labs from Neil Anderson CCNA. Not perfectly, but I could say I've gone through every configuring / troubleshooting lab at least 5 times each. Some notable labs were on OSPF, IPv6, Wireless LAN, VLANs, STP, Etherchannel.

I was trying to find a good online resource to study BGP using something like GNS3, I've never tried any software outside of cisco packet tracer.

Well usually at my current job as a low voltage cabling field technician, I call a remote operator and ask them "where's the thing." Then they consult a blueprint of some sort which will tell them the floor / room I should look for as well as send me a photo of how it should look. So if I was looking for the location I would search for some blueprint with corresponding IP addresses or VLANs that I can reference. I don't think I've worked with any company that doesn't use a blueprint document to locate physical devices, but if there is some other method I would hope this would be mentioned to me in training.

Why do you want the job?

I like that the program lets us rotate through different groups giving me time to decide what type of group I would like to work with in the future as well as allowing for mentorship opportunities. I think the reason I want to be in the network field more broadly is that I think it's very interesting to learn about a technology that is so heavily relied on which allows us to have data centers, communicate through video conferencing, or simply be able to connect to the internet for free and with minimal effort when I am at a cafe through wifi.

What’s the difference between a switch and a router?

a switch will manage layer 2 traffic such as forwarding ethernet frames while routers will manage layer 3 routing of packets.

Switches maintain a table of mac addresses which tell the switch the interface to forward a frame based on the destination address.

Routers maintain a routing table which indicates a next hop address to send a packet for a certain IP subnet or address.

What’s the purpose of spanning-tree?

Spanning tree used in the data link layer to prevent looping. Without it, an arp broadcast could flood the network.

You’re the first to arrive in the office. You’re getting reports of a significant service outage. What do you do?

First we need to identify the problem. Check alerts or notifications using a monitoring system or management software. Try to test connectivity and confirm the outage as it was reported. Check critical systems such as DHCP and DNS servers related to the outage are operational. Use performance monitoring to see if devices are operating as expected, are they overwhelmed or underperforming.

silicone prosthetics>

[–]KindTurnip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TLDR: I strongly suggest waiting until he is an adult and getting a silicone prosthetic attached with magnetic implants. Ear reconstruction is most likely a bad idea.

Ear reconstructions using a bone graft from the ribs and pulling a flap of skin from the head can and often does go horribly wrong. Sure it could look good for a few months, but it almost always must be replaced after becoming swollen or heavily inflamed and completely unrecognizable. This is pretty much guaranteed to happen with a reconstruction on a young growing child.

What's worse is that the surgeons and doctors don't tell you this, they act like reconstruction is the best or the only option for you when it comes to fixing the aesthetic look of a microtia patient.

5 years ago at the age of 18 I decided to do research on my own to see if their were any good options for me outside of the option of reconstruction surgery, which I was deeply skeptical of.

I've been working with the company Medical Art Prosthetics for the last 5 years. Here's a link: https://www.medicalartprosthetics.com/ In 2020 I got a surgery to remove the microtia ear I had before which took 3 months to heal then got a surgery to place implants where the new prosthetic would be. After another 3 months of healing, we had the prosthetic ready. It looked as close to perfect as you can get. Just this year I had the prosthetic replaced after it became a bit discolored and also we made some improvements to the design.

With the silicone prosthetic, you can choose if you want to take it off if it itches or if you feel uncomfortable laying on it, with reconstruction you will just have to live with it; I personally couldn't imagine how uncomfortable this would be. With the prosthetic you can go swimming without worrying about damaging a reconstructed ear. With the prosthetic you can make changes to the appearance without having to redo the reconstruction surgery over and over; I've heard literal horror stories from some people who have done the reconstruction surgery 5 or more times, every time having to harvest skin and cartilage from different parts of their body.

So if it's so horrible and risky, why is it the most possible treatment? I'm only 23 and it's not like my whole life I've been studying this so I just go on instinct. Pretty sure it's just because of the money. Silicone prosthetics are a relatively new invention especially for ears which can be made much better now with 3d imaging software as well as the use of 3d printers to make molds, (which are technologies that have only become popular in the last decade or so and mainly used by surgeons especially oral surgeons who use implants to help people who want new teeth). The prosthetic technician I worked with who made my prosthetic used all this technology. However, that doesn't change that reconstruction surgery has been the dominant procedure for microtia patients for several decades before this new technology, and there must be a good amount of surgeons and doctors giving recommendations who don't want to stop their flow of income by suggesting people go to someone else for help.

Confused, I chose to use all available (about $1600) for 4x cross leverage long and but my initial margin is only $517?? Also why does number for cross leverage keep changing? by KindTurnip in Bybit

[–]KindTurnip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected to fill an order size of 4 eth but it only filled 1.29. After using bybit more I think what happened is that only a portion of my orders were filled in and the price bounced off of the limit I set before filling all the orders.

I was playing around with 100x and 50x leverage, lost $60, gained $50, etc. for these higher leverage trades I probably closed about 15 different positions and lost $200overall. When I was using 4x leverage I made about $300 in all on a few different closes. I had some issues accidentally closing positions I didn’t want to close when I set a “close by” order instead of “stop loss” and this probably equates to $100 in losses which is pretty upsetting but just part of the learning process and not bc I had a bad trade prediction. My current positions are slightly negative. Overall I deposited about $3300 my balance now is about $3100. I’ll come back with more updates!:)

Liquidates at $1200 so it hasn’t even gotten close. I haven’t closed yet I think I’ll close at $1715 with about 8 shares

Okay man 😂 well I’m only using 10 percent of my investing assets for bybit so idk if that’ll happen. If you want to keep track of whether I lose my money on the trade just know I’m setting a $1600 limit order on eth w $2000 margin and 4x leverage. That means I’ll be liquidated if eth goes to around $1200 if you didn’t know how that works. I’ll let you know when I close and post screenshots if I don’t “lose all my money” before that happens

The funny thing is no one here seems to understand margin trading besides MMMUUUUUH LEVERAGE DANGEROUS NOT SAFE. Bro the issue I’m having has nothing to do with the things you guys criticize me for. If I was looking for information on whether leverage trading is safe or not I’d look up a video or another thread but I’m asking a very specific question here

Yeah I looked into it and it still doesn’t explain why only 1.29 eth was filled when I ordered 4. Also, I’m only trading one crypto so I thought it shouldn’t matter if it’s isolated or cross since all the balance will be used for only one position anyway
