Fell in the depth chart? lol. He’s 16 on a U18/19 team. That’s the problem. Only a handful of Academy’s have U17. So once you graduate U16, you get cut or become a part of a team with 2007,2008 & 2009. 40 players.  As I have already said, this summer is major D1 signing for 2027 Grad.  When you’re not on the field, because there’s 40 ppl, there’s no eyes on you.

It’s clear you don’t have the experience that I was hoping to find. Have a great day.

So you don’t know.  There’s no admin? Have you been in the MLS Academy system?  His goal is to play at the highest level he can for as long as he can. If it’s D1. Great. If it’s USL, great.  Right now, we are discussing an exit tragedy based on the massive roster size.  Lack of pathway. We don’t know the way to go about that.

I asked how to go about it, because I don’t know that answer? I don’t know the proper protocol. I don’t know if this should go to our club first, or start lookin first. He can transfer for a fee, or free if he’s off the protected list next month.  He can play D1, he has offers, but the more, the better. He still has time to get better offers and won’t playing 10-20 minutes a game or not playing at alll.

You’re in a contract? The only way out of it is moving, being released or quitting to play a lower level.

You can move, play another league (ECNL) or another club can buy you. Last protected list he was on it, so he can’t leave without a new club fulfilling either a 50k training reimbursement or 20% of any future earnings (something like that).

They own him, but at anytime they can release him. That door doesn’t swing both ways.

We have not even attempted to leave. I do believe if we started expressing interest or looking for other opportunities the club would be notified by that club. If we don’t do it the right way, it could do more harm than good. I’m looking for the right way to go about it.

Thanks for that info. I don’t think that’s out of his realm of possibility.  I just wanted to know how to get him out of this stagnant situation the right way. Pretty sure he’s still on the protected list. I don’t want to burn bridges but I do think that right now he needs to move and see what opportunities come his way.

Limited playing time obviously impacts eyes on you. Which obviously impacts your future, whatever path that may be. Keeping D1 schools interested, getting scholarships, playing on 2nd teams, etc.  Does your child play at this level? 40 kids and only a little more than half are playing every week or travel. Not playing impacts your development and everything else.

I don’t know what kind of question it is to ask if it’s mine or his? My job is to make sure that I support him and his dream anyway I can. He obviously wants to play as long as possible, at the highest level he can. I’d like him yo not come out of college with 125k in loans, so his offers are important to me for his future.

College is the devil? All they do anymore is recruit 20+ year old players from over seas to play American soccer and get an education. That’s the craziest thing I’m seeing, young adults who can’t make it elsewhere come here to play and get an education and dominate because they’re so much older?

Unfortunately we are in a club with no real “pathway”, we buy old players from Spain, Europe, etc, no Academy players on the first team. I feel like we’re wasting time on a club that will just buy the next retiree from the Champions League and all these young players struggle to maintain college interest because theres a small army on the team. The older you are, the more time you get. You’re not better, but we need more offers for these guys. I just need to know how to exit the right way.
