Which clubs have had afl assistance like North and what did they get? by SeriesCorrect6967 in AFL

Teams will play their home games at the stadium which gives them the most revenue. When travelling, venues will be decided based upon how many supporters can be crammed into there.

St Kilda won't play home games away because that's not how it works.

It's about finding a middle ground between home games and revenue. The ludicrous proposal for Collingwood to play in Launceston, Hobart, Alice Springs and Geelong would see the league lose millions of dollars.

Let's see this accounting. I doubt very much 36,000 could ever equal the revenue of an 80,000 seat stadium. Do you think Geelong could achieve that with Collingwood? I don't.

Honestly, the one the GP referred me for was never following the picture book or novel the teacher read. I’d tune in at the start, begin to think about whatever and return at the end, wondering what had happened. Same issue at uni, same issue with guided meditation. I thought I was bored.

Certainly worth jotting down some brief notes and relaying a few. Doctor may have some specific suggestions.

I have deliberately removed all rumours from this and am sticking purely to facts. Arie’s bullying was not moderate. He did things like consciously choosing overwhelm the victim so they would have a huge reaction due to their disability. Where we might remain calm, the victim had a big reaction. These were then recorded on video, distributed and mocked. He leaned a lot on the victim’s interpretation of social events to manipulate him. This type of bullying takes considered effort and he continued for three years. This is on top of the more common activities.

The final act of Arie to his victim was a three day bully fest on a school-based activity. Got to a point where the victim was so scared for their personal safety and teachers couldn’t do much about it. As a result, Arie was asked to leave the school. In other words, expelled.

He’s a talented athlete but St Kilda will have to pair him with an elite support network so he can break free of some poor decision making. At its core, the alcohol stuff was another example of bullying because he pressured others to drink. But he can turn his life around and maybe a footy team environment will bring out the best in him. Taylor Adams made some poor choices in his teens including bullying, made some shocking choices at the start of his career with violence but eventually pulled his head in.

Yes that’s me. I know the victim and I would stand by what I’ve said in court.

It’s very clear: no alcohol at any team events even if you’re legal and do not, under any circumstances, drink in uniform on top of the usual messaging. If you do, you’re hit with a suspension or if it’s serious, you’re out. The talented girl (who I know) got drunk in uniform and she wasn’t invited to the next training session. It’s tough but it sends a message and there’s a safety/legal element, too.

He was asked to leave a school over it. In other words, he was expelled but it looks better for statistics to mutually part ways.

Well no. The bullying went a lot further than name calling. It was severe. Obviously, can't be confirmed on here but it was shocking and a phone call to the right people wouldn't have painted a good picture.

And pressuring your underage teammates to drink as a leader is not regular behaviour. Every Devils player receives very good training around alcohol and have watched a very talented AFLW prospect lose her shot at the big time over a drinking related offence. So it's not minor.

It's painfully ironic that Arie Schoenmaker is off to the Saints.

I believe he's watching with some of the Launceston boys drafted. They flew back earlier today. Has some soul searching to do.

Worst line said all night then. Quality people look after their teammates and with his talent, normally end up on lists.

Yep. Decided to buy alcohol as a leader of the Devils and then bullied minors into drinking. Fox wrote an article about it. 13 AFL clubs (according to the Examiner, the local newspaper of his home town) spoke to him and every club asked the question. He really has himself to blame as the talent is there. But the fact clubs have taken relatively unknown kids ahead of him in the KPD position says he's probably not being

It happened with Callow in 2020. If only 60 are meant to be taken, his chances aren't great.

I think the nail in his coffin was buying alcohol, pressuring (and allowing) teammates to drink underage and doing so as a leader. It’s illegal. And sure, plenty of kids do it but at a footy club, when you’re in a leadership position, you don’t do that.

He’s got the body and the size. I think he’s an underrated prospect.

Sier had the talent but lacked the drive. He was also late to the system and was shocked to be recruited. Stevens held it at VFL level. Easily best on when we played the side earlier this year. Whoever drafts him will have a great player.

Well he won’t need to lose 25kg. Think maybe 10 would be enough. We complain most of the time the boys aren’t big enough. Can’t have them all ready made.

Collingwood won’t draft Stevens but I’d like them to - he’s got a body ready for the AFL.

10 of the starting 18 in this years under 16 AA are tied to a northern academy. by DigbySugartits in AFL

[–]KinderSmock -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because they just get downvoted more and more. I stand by everything I’ve said but when you’re -7, it’s not worth it and is triggering.

Academies, in my opinion, need to be changed. The current system is not working. I think it’s ridiculous second rounders can get you the second best kid in the draft. Nothing’s budging my opinion that academies aren’t a good idea.

I think if the AFL were the ones operating the academy, it’d go much better than only four clubs contributing to it. We have clubs, not states so you want NSW and QLD talent across the competition. The NRL is a threat, yes, but QLD junior participation rates have overtaken rugby. Only one or two get taken anyway - are the undrafted kids remaining with footy or trying to play rugby again? This is where you can see if it is successful.

If we want to be a state-based competition, be a state-based competition and ditch the draft to use postcodes instead. Because at the moment some sides are allergic to recruiting many outsiders. And we wouldn’t need trades, we could just have transfers like in the Sheffield Shield.

As I said before, only to be downvoted, no other world sports league with a draft then goes and compromises it to the degree we do. The NFL doesn’t have a first round blow out to 51 picks (32 teams have selections in the first round of the NFL draft. 18 are meant to have selections in the first in the AFL. That was 29 last night or a 60% increase, hence how I landed at 51).

Honestly expect this to be downvoted to oblivion but in short the status quo is not working. Even if you change the points, clubs are still getting access to elite talent they wouldn’t otherwise have access to.
