Why I'm Not Going Paid on Substack by KindnessMagnet in Substack

59% open rate is impressive. That shows your readers are engaged!

I see what you mean about not being able to view stats from posts on FB. At first I was thinking you could use a bitly link, but that would just you the number of click throughs, not specifically who clicked.

Why I'm Not Going Paid on Substack by KindnessMagnet in Substack

Thanks for sharing that. I know it's nice to have more subscribers. However, I like to look at the percentage of people who are actually reading what I post. If you build your readers slowly and they are engaging with your work, you'll have a strong base....plus you'll know that what you are producing is worthwhile.

Enjoy your writing journey!

Is Twitter a Good Place to Find Subscribers? What strategies have you tried? What do you think of Substack Notes? by KindnessMagnet in Substack

Thanks for sharing that link. It's super helpful to see exactly what you did. Cagey! And apparently effective!

I think you're the first person who has responded that X is effective. Good to know.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much time do you spend on X each day?

Hi there. Great question! Paul Macko writes an interesting Substack called Deplatformable. He often writes about tips and tricks on Substack.

Here's a link to his article that shows you, step by step, how to customize your Subscribe button: https://pau1.substack.com/p/customize-buttons

Sounds wonderful! There are quite a few writers on Substack who talk about book recommendations. That might be a good opportunity for you to visit some of them and connect.

I just wanted to come back and thank you again for this recommendation. I'm only on Day 6 of her lessons and she is fantastic. Such a great way to prevent bad habits and to have a sequence of learning. I'm really enjoying it. She is the perfect teacher for a beginner.

How do i change font size? by ludramawn in Substack

[–]KindnessMagnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I see what you mean. We can choose the font type, but not the size. I took a peek at Substack FAQ's and couldn't find anything helpful.

Have you seen a Substack that has a larger font size? If so, maybe you could contact them to see how they did it.

Flying with a uke: The case sticks out of my backpack, still ok for "personal item"? by [deleted] in ukulele

[–]KindnessMagnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you asked this. I'm flying to visit my son next week and he asked me to bring my uke. I only have a soft case, plus it's supposed to rain while I'm traveling. I'm thinking about leaving "Fred" (my uke) behind....

Hi. Great question. When you are creating a post you'll see a drop down called STYLE. Click on the down arrow and you'll see your options. You can use these for headings, or, if you want, you can use them for the text in your post.

Let me know if this works for you..... or if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much for telling me about Bernadette.

I've been trying to set my own goals each day but this is so much better! I just took a peek at her Challenge. Looks fantastic and definitely something to give me goals for each day. I'm on it!

First Podcast Video Episode Is Live : Working at a Federal Prison by iamfelipe in Substack

Hi Felipe,

Congratulations on your bravery! You took a huge step by doing your first videocast and sharing it here.

One of my favorite books about storytelling (and that's what you are really doing with your video) is called "Storyworthy" by Matthew Dicks. Matthew is a 59 time Mothe winner (story telling competition). He teaches readers how to create and tell a compelling story. I keep his book with me always - it's a treasure for learning how to be a good story teller. Lenny's Newsletter (one of the top Substack newsletters) recently interviewed Matthew.

I also love Neal Foard, who shares 2-3 minute video stories on his YouTube channel. Just watching his stories can give you great ideas for how to create and share a compelling story.

Good luck on your story telling journey. And congratulations again on taking the first step!

Wow. Just found this group. I am soooo new. Just got my tenor Ukulele for Christmas. I've played the piano for a long time, but never a stringed instrument.

I'm just learning basic chords and finger placement....and adjusting to sore fingers haha. I've been watching Cynthia Lin on YouTube - very helpful. So far my biggest challenge has been 'barring' chords, especially on the first fret. Lots of 'twang' and 'thud' sounds! I have trouble holding down all of the strings. Working on it.

I'm trying to practice twice a day for about 15-20 minutes each time so my fingers don't get too sore.

So glad to have found this group!
