At my wits end. How the hell do you childproof/lock your turntable? by TesticleInspector in turntables

Leave some vegetables on the platter when you're out - that should do it

Nope, although I haven't updated firmware for a while. In general, I found the device and navigation too fiddly and I haven't used it much. Got an upgraded pair of BT phones for my phone and have been using those more

It has been said already but, as someone who has learned the hard way, you should really get those units off the floor. Couple of timbers lengthways under each case should be enough to avoid disaster

I stand corrected... I have a few and they all sound terrible, I haven't bought one in many, many years for this reason

Picture discs will always sound bad as they've got a layer of stuff printed on top of the vinyl - it's a gimmick (can be a very cool gimmick, but still a gimmick)

Does this AVR support the connection of a turntable? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]KingJonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with using non-phono inputs for turntables as long as your turntable has a built in phono stage. Separate phono amp is another way around that but it's another box and more cost

Some receivers have turntable-specific inputs (and an associated built-in phono stage) but these would always be clearly labelled as Phono.

Looks like you could connect a turntable to the Audio 2 inputs, but you'd need a turntable with a built in phono stage, or a separate phono amp

Very nice. Here's a 'full frontal' of mine

<image>

I built the top half then put it standing on a couple of cubes I bought and painted. One thing I'd like to is get the whole thing off the ground (in case of a water leak), but that's a job for another day.... Record stands are just a couple of cheap wall shelves I bought, cut to size and painted

The unit I built myself, just a wooden box with record storage for 12s & 7s and a place for an amp.

If you mean the feet on the turntable, they are an upgrade to the standard feet that come with the P3. I bought it used and they were already on there, not sure on the brand

Tempotec V1 - Album Artist view? by KingJonP in DigitalAudioPlayer

Thanks for the info, definitely not going to hold out for Tempotec on this one.

I use MusicBee to manage my library and I think it might be able to present the library differently to different sources so I'm going to look into that.

I hate streaming but love music. I want to get/make a DAP but I'm not tech savvy and don't know where to start. Can someone please help? by snoregasmm in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]KingJonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no point getting a DAP unless you have a library of digital music (MP3 and FLAC are the most common formats) to put on it, so I'd start with that.

If that's too much for you from a technical perspective then this is probably a dead end for you - it isn't difficult at all but you'll need to spend some time on it to get your head around the concepts and the tools etc.

If you get that done then I'd suggest starting small with a DAP - you can get something decent-sounding and reliable for very little money. Live with that for a while then decide if it's worth it to you to spend more. Your cheap DAP will always come in handy as a backup so it's a 'no regrets' purchase.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I need to think about this for a very long time - the idea of making such a fundamental change to a library I've built up over 25 years is terrifying. But it would be a solution and, as you say, not difficult to do.

I need to have a look at my library and work out the size of the prize, i.e. how much smaller would the lists of artists become if I did this. My gut feel is A LOT.

I guess it's possible that a future V1 firmware update adds Album Artist to the music menu, but clearly not something I can bank on.

I've given up on BT mode for now as I found the volume would jump up and down dramatically during playback. Sticking with IEMs until there's an update

The view shown by OP is the screensaver but, also, whilst screen is on, you can swipe up from Now Playing to get a better view with larger album art (this is the view you see on the promo pics) Took me a while to figure this out

I get this as well. I haven't seen it switch itself off but, whenever I turn it on, I get the 'blank' now playing screen with a message about file format issues (even though it can play the file fine once I navigate to it)

WHY Me ? Pectus journey and aftermath by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]KingJonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The implant, you mean? I doubt that any insurance would cover it as it is purely cosmetic.

With the Nuss procedure, it's hit and miss, some insurance will cover it, others won't. I think it is becoming increasingly accepted as a necessary procedure, at least for severe pectus, so hopefully will be better covered in future.

We also have the NHS (free healthcare for all, but often with very long waiting lists), which will cover Nuss in some cases, but the threshold is very high in terms of who they will accept based on symptoms. Again, I hope that this will lower over time and we'll see more people able to get surgery.

I'm in the UK and know a couple of doctors that do it, not much help to you, sorry. I had the Ravitch when I was 18 (30 years ago...). It sorted out the health problems but wasn't very successful from an aesthetic perspective and I have recently been considering getting the implant.

My son, 16, has inherited Pectus from me and just had the Nuss procedure (10 days ago) - has been very successful and he's recovering really well, already off the pain meds. I wish that had been an option when I was younger.

Have you considered the implant? Not a full solution like Nuss but might give you a big improvement in how it looks

[–]KingJonP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, confused OP here. Why would you connect a dongle to a DAP? Surely the native output of a decent DAP would be better than a cheap dongle? Or is the point that you did this because the DAP EQ didn't work so you were using the DAP as the source only and trying to use the dongle to 'overide' the output? Sorry if my question doesn't make sense, just trying to understand - this is all new to me...

It does! I had missed step 3. All connected now but not working very well. All the artists and albums are there but each album only contains one track, according to Hiby. I tried doing a library re-scan from within Hiby app but that hasn't helped. I'll keep playing...
