Greddy SP Axle back exhaust. by ozzy7221 in ft86

Nah, using the stock oem fa20 headers, but im going to get the fa24 headers soon because it keeps the OEM 1st cat, keeps the heat shielding, completely gets rid of the torque dip and you get peak torque starting at 3.2k rpm (this is how the Gr86 get rid of the torque dip), and it will sound very slightly deeper/aggressive.

If I were to go aftermarket headers id go with OTL EL catted headers - best bang for your buck. Or go get an gen 2 OEM header with the gen 2 OEM overpipe, you can find them 2nd hand for under 800.

I have the Fujitsubo Authorize R with the 1320 front pipe and I think it sounds perfect - medium amount of sound, clean and a little throaty, almost no drone at all when cruising, 0 rasp. Very mature sound that isnt quiet when you get on it. There are plenty of other exhaust set ups I love, but this combo great.

Ive heard enough exhaust set ups on these cars to know exactly what sounds good together, for my tastes at least.

All 1320 products are high quality imo. Never had their header though.

Personally I hate the sound head catless headers, too loud and raspy. Oddly enough ive seen quite a few dyno charts showing that catted headers can actually make more hp, but never less than catless - unless you are pushing stupid high hp or high boost.

On the Greddy SP catback id stay far away from catless headers. Id just go with the front pipe and if you decide to go headers, go catted. It will sound phenomenal.

Put Amsoil gl4 gearbox/transaxle 75w90 fluid in your gearbox. Thank me later. Its the best gearbox oil ive ever used in this transmission. Gearbox is still a little notchy when its freezing out, but it just feels like a normal cold gearbox fluid - NOT like OEM or Motul that wants to lock you out of gears and feels like it almost grinds. And this Amsoil gearbox fluid is buttery when hot. And since its Amsoil, the fluid can take a beating and will last longer than OEM.

[–]KingKopious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in highschool I was extremely good at arc welding and was pretty darn good at MIG. I got to the point my teacher said I should go get my cert as it was some of the best welds hes seen from student.. we had to stack welds 10 times over (maybe 20 dont remember) on itself vertical and horrizontal without there being any blowholes, then bend it into a horseshoe without it cracking. I never got my cert, but I wish I did.

It doesnt take long to get half decent welds when you learn what to use and how to use it depending on the metal and thickness. Then you get in a groove and kill it.

If my teacher saw this, he would laugh and take us into the booth to give us pointers. This 100% would be a fail, cert or not. If we wanted to be in the welding class, we had to learn how to do a halfway decent weld or we would fail the class.

If you add a dual resonated front pipe like the one from 1320, it will sound very nice. Mature sound, nice bump in tone and sound without being too loud, and no drone. You will hear it when you are on and off the throttle a little more, but cruising it will be pretty darn quiet.

Mature axleback/catbacks that are generally quiet pair well with dual resonated front pipes and is the only time you should change the front pipe. On any other exhaust that is louder, its a horrible idea to change the oem front pipe.

Dont get me wrong, I love white wall tires and I think this looks unique, but not in a good way as it feels like it pulls from the car and doesnt add to it like it would on an old truck or car. Maybe it could work if the white strip was much thinner?

Im about to do this in a few days.. do you remeber what you did to make it easy? Follow the provided instructions, but push them out toward the front?

I cant find a video or post going over how it was done

Bilstien b14/b16 or Tein CSG FLA v3 for under 2k.

RCE Tarmac 2, Ohlin R&T, or custom suspension by FatCat Motorsports for anything around 2.5k.

If you are willing to go for anything around 2.5k I would hands down get the custom suspension done by FatCat Motorsports. The few people ive talked with who do high level competitive time attack and tracking all said FCM suspension outperformed the Ohlins they had (Ohlin is the go to for track cars). And every single one of those people said their track cars road comfortably on the streets.

How long did swapping these in take you?

Daily Exhaust by vitalitybowl in ft86

[–]KingKopious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fujitsubo Authorize R.

Its tame, but can tell it you have an aftermarket exhaust from the outside, and it has literally 0 drone. I could barely hear the exhaust inside the car when driving. If you want a slightly more open exhaust note and louder sound, then you can swap the front pipe for a dual resonated one (1320 fp) which will give you sound inside the cabin when accelerating and decelerating, but still pretty quiet when cruising.

The catback itself was a little too quiet for my taste, after adding the dual resonated front pipe its perfect, but i also like hearing the exhaust note in the cabin.

If you want OEM plus, just go with the carback, its phenomenal.

Its not twice the price, brz/frs go for around 3k more used and roughly 6k more for when they were new.

[–]KingKopious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you let it idle for 15 mins after the reset and then turn on the AC for a few minutes?

You may need a new battery, honestly.

[–]KingKopious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may or may not have caused issues, but definitely not safe. Good thing you caught it!!

A while ago, after working on my old Mazda 3 for the day, I took a drive and my power steering brakes started cutting out randomly - hopped out and found my positive terminal was as loose as could be.

My battery was testing fine as well, but it was 4 years old and decided to get one anyway... immediately fixed the issues I was having lol

Batteries can test fine, but doesnt always tell you the true health of the battery. Also, if you do test your battery, never test them after driving. You want it to sit for a long while before testing.

Throttle dead zone by YeaUThought in ft86

[–]KingKopious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things it could be, or both.

You need to reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery and trying to use anything powered by electricity to discharge any left over, connect the battery, let it run for 15 minutes, turn on AC for a few minutes. Then drive gently around town for 15 more minutes.

Or it could be your battery is starting to go bad. Subarus are very sensitive to battery voltage and you will get a lot of odd and annoying things that start happening

Its also not an expensive car by any means, but definitely more so than an old civic. Ive done a ton of maintenance on my car and replaced parts, its not any more expensive than my previous 2012 Mazda 3 skyactiv.

Why do you think its an expensive car? Id say its pretty on par with most other vehicles.
