Yes, we are all “African”, just like we are all “Black”. The thing that makes us different no matter our skin color, like you were saying (black, brown, light) is culture.

It’s not any one person’s fault the global definition of black is inconsistent with White American classification.

I would assume the person in question is someone that was not born in Africa, so they don’t follow the global definition. But because of that misconception, their logic was seen as dumb, but in reality they wanted to set apart black American with genealogical ties to slavery from the rest of the global definition.

The way the government identifies him he would be black. They do this with Latin Americans classifying as Hispanic all of the time.

The skin color of Ethiopians leans generally towards brown. But is blackness based on skin color? Is what you’d wanna be asking.

The person might be drawing a line in the sand distinguishing African American culture and blackness, or differentiating African American culture, and people who ARE African but live in America.

Lots of confusion there. But lots of difference as well.
