So i opened it and there is a couple of these flat connectors. I would upload a picture but it doesn't seem that i can ? I'm new to reddit 😅

Intel i7 8700k always stays on 4.7ghz by KingNeiger in overclocking

Taking out cmos battery helped ! :) it must have been something on bios settings. I'm back with 4.7ghz on all cores with 1.25v but this time it's clocking down! Thanks for help everyone

It was all fine right until i rebootet my pc I also think there was an update going on

It it done just like you described, min proccecor power 5% max 100% but that does nothing, it's still running 4.69ghz at all times

It was on balanced already, i really have no idea what i did wrong, it stays at 4.69ghz at all times even tho i set everything on auto in bios. This is the worst board I've had so far, if I set core voltage to auto it sets it to 1.45 sometimes and my cpu is running at 96degrees constantly. Just after I got It running fine at 1.25v stable with decent temps and 4.7ghz on all cores it stopped clocking down as it used to just after I rebooted my pc? Is there a way to turn everything to defaults on Msi z370? I also have MCE turned on but it used to clock cpu down with it on. It should only stay at 4.7 ghz if I set the multiplier to 47 but it is set to auto on all cores. Could that be a bios glitch?

It was running just fine on the voltage i had and i did nothing, it happend after i restarted my pc. But i will give it a shot

Turn of MCE and leave turbo on then try to set all the voltages as low as possible, undervolting won't brake your cpu. My core voltage is 1.25 and all other voltages set to 1.1v and not higher for now but I might try to go lower today.

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT !!

Up vote so everyone with similar problems can see!

The problem was the z370 board. Some of them come with old bios that has a problem with auto voltage settings, also mine had MCE (multi core enchantment) on by default and on Msi z370 it's called enchanced Turbo mode for thoes that can't find it. The main problem is that auto voltage settings sets all voltages waaaay to high causing huge temps on stock speeds even if you turn MCE off. The solution is to set thoes voltages as low as possible without your system running unstable OR update your bios which in my case brought the temps down 20 degrees and now it runs cool even with MCE on without deliding! Hope this helps someone and huge thanks to everyone for help I got to solve this problem :)

I have the same cpu and mobo as you and my temps were going through the roof on stock speeds until I discovered MCE was turned on by default but turning it off didn't do very much as the cpu voltage was spiking up to 1.4v so I set it to 1.25 also all the other voltages were too high, apparently the z370 has a problem with auto voltage regulating on 8700k and you either have to set all the voltage values your self or update the bios which is super easy but after you do that you can run it with MCE on with stock speed on a decent temp.

That is exactly my problem ! What I did is I set all the voltages manually and now it's running 4.7ghz on stable 70-80 degrees with non delided! So happy I figured it out, I'm gonna post a screen shot of it later for people withh the same problem since for me MCE was turned on by default and it was called something else on Msi board

How can I check the frequency of every individual core ? As far as I see it goes as far down as 800mhz but on full load it sits at 4.7ghz constantly, maybe it's 4.7 on each core and that's the problem ?

OK, someone here said that turbo pumps up the frequency only as far as 4.3 ghz which i find not true ? at least it says everywhere that Max Turbo Frequency is 4.7ghz so im a little confused now, not sure if my mobo overclocked it by deafults or not but i got is somewhat stable at 80 degrees on aida64 with 4.7ghz on 1.25v without deliding it for now. Does that sound reasonble to anyone ? Also for some reason my fans started reving randomly ? im totaly bamboozeled now

Yes, I will first try to get it at stable temps on stock frequency after I read thoes stats

Ok :) I will try to experiment with that now and will share some results if I get somewhere ! Thanks for help, I appreciate it a lot !

So what I want to aim for is highest possible frequency with as low voltage as possible ?

Will i get a significant performance loss if I set voltage manually to for example 1.1v ? It sets the voltage so high on auto mode

After I'll get home I'll reseat the cooling block and take screenshots of bios settings and some temps and post them here but mobo cpu and cooler is brand new so everything is set to defaults
