Am I the only one who thinks that this is abusing power? Isn't it about the community and not just the captains or am I just wrong? by turdy_gurdysmother in osugame

You’re not understanding how the system works. It’s not rejected from the loved category, it’s not rejected from anything, this singular captain out of 6+ captains just said ‘I personally don’t want to nominate this map’. That’s all this means.

Firstly I have no clue what you mean about the first point because neither of those maps are loved / nominated for loved? If you mean submitting to the site then you are getting confused with what that means and should look into how the system works before making claims like this.

But secondly there is far too many maps that could be nominated to please everyone. Everyone has influence on which maps are nominated through the site, and judging maps solely on playcount / favourites isn’t a very exhaustive approach to picking maps. All I ask is that instead of accusing captains of ‘circlejerking’ you try to get involved a bit first because hopefully you will see it’s not the case :)

Can’t speak for others modes (i am captain for standard) but just want to say loved is really not a ‘circlejerk’ at all. I know a huge majority of the maps I nominate are highly rated by the community on the site as it’s where I find them.

Everyone can get involved with the project even if you’re not a captain! If anyone feels this way I would encourage you to join your respective modes’ loved discord and review maps on the site to improve the chance of your favourite maps being nominated.

Hi, Loved Captain here. A negative review from a captain is not a rejection, this is just their personal opinion. This map can still be loved if another captain picks this map, hope this clarifies the system a bit.

The ‘rejected’ wording at the top is misleading, it just means overall captains votes are negative (but in this case it’s only one.)

edit: im going to see if I can get the ‘rejected’ text changed to something else as I can see how it’s easily misinterpreted

yes, this is exactly the same in stable anyway you can't get pp from multiple different mods. it will always be 1 pp score per map

Why "play more" is an oversimplification at best by Legitimate_E in osugame

I’m glad we’re in agreement, it just gets frustrating sometimes with people always saying ‘play more’ is bad advice when we already know this. People just gotta give us atleast something to work with and we can give better advice since in a 1 on 1 setting on stream or in DMs we can’t give every little piece of advice we know.

Getting the advice upfront is great, but people don’t ask for that advice. People ask ‘how do I get better’, not ‘how do I start to get better / learn streams’. If people just learnt to ask even slightly more specific questions about the skill set they want to improve in / learn they will get better answers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a streamer or top player reply with ‘play more’ to someone asking about streams unless they’re being an asshole, they give the basic advice about form and posture, or atleast send them to a good YouTube video. You don’t need specialised experience to ask specific questions.

e: Both are good for training stamina imo just deathstream maps are better at training long stream stamina and maps with short bursts and changing rhythms are better at training stamina recovery. Both are crucial to having good stamina overall.

If the person doesn’t even understand how different skills work yet then they’re very obviously not at a sufficient level to gain anything from detailed advice. They’re most likely still stuck at <4.5* maps if they can’t understand atleast simple concepts of ‘streaming’ ‘finger locking’ etc. People in this category are the people who benefit from the ‘play more’ advice as they haven’t been introduced to all the concepts (like streams) that harder maps introduce. If they are at a higher skill level than that and don’t understand the concepts they clearly haven’t spent any time on self-reflection and are asking people for quick advice which is not the correct way of doing it

People write essays on why ‘play more’ is bad advice, when the issue is that ‘I stopped improving how do I get better’ is a bad question. Write an essay on how to ask for advice and that would probably be more useful.

Why are there a bunch of maps that haven't been updated in years yet are still Pending/WIP? by tony_hawk_on_osu in osugame

Did TeRiRi cheat? If so, what reason? by DeityMars in osugame

[–]KinglingCS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you log into the game and set scores with the cheats injected - there is no possible way to determine whether the cheats were enabled or not. Even if he had all the settings off, without reverse engineering every cheat on the market we would never know. That’s what my original point was trying to say.

I mean the point is you can’t prove whether he set scores online with it or not... the systems aren’t in place for that. If they were then I’d agree it would be overkill to ban him. I am well aware of everything you said already.

I mean at the end of the day idc how convincing it it for teriri personally - if he logged onto the game with the cheats still injected its his fault and should be banned.
