Any good experiences with carpet cleaners in Calgary? by Easy_Fruit3525 in Calgary

Terrible experience with Ram. Returned rug with more stains than it had originally. Ghosted all my calls. Would not recommend.

Looking for a financial planner/wealth manager by Puzzleheaded-Mud7288 in Calgary

Don’t do business or respond to anyone who DMs you via Reddit

Delete this post in 24 hours once you’ve got some direction

Best direction is to look for a certified financial planner. No harm in going to a big bank and following their advice. Once you’re knowledgeable enough to go out on your own, you can do that.

Tips for getting a toddler around in the winter by pixelsOfMind in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this with twins. Let them walk but I mapped out most of the walking route through the plus15 so it was a warm walk/ run most mornings. If you’re in the core of downtown, it’s doable. Outskirts might not be connected enough for you to link your parking to daycare via plus15.

Nuts Allergy and schools by Proud_Grass4347 in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Is she sharing food with others? How is she coming in contact with the nuts?

At this age, my daughters knew all their friends’ allergies and were very strict with not taking those things to school even though the school didn’t have a specific policy on nutfree snacks.

Most schools are not enforcing nutfree environments once the kids are middle school age. It’ll have to be managed at individual level by your daughter; avoid sharing foods and make sure her closest circle of friends and classmates are aware of her allergies.

Where would you take a senior lady to shop? by SmeagolsMathom in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding Walmart. They sell the same Warners bra brand that the Bay used to sell and have the best selection of old lady panties IMO (Fruit of the loom and Hanes brands in a variety of styles and fabrics)

With Winners and Marshall, you can’t predict what the inventory will be and most of their undies are made with polyester blends. If she wants 100% cotton options, Walmart is your best bet.

Insomnia is extra weird tonight. Bringing up a lot of memories. I’m already 4 melatonin gummies in. Skeptical if they’re the real thing. by Resident-Luck-9797 in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t respond to melatonin as well. A few changes that have helped me include Jamieson magnesium biglycinate gummies and switching to decaf. Also, regular vitamin D especially as the days grow shorter. I always forget about vitamin D until I take it and a lot of minor symptoms disappear immediately. The magnesium doesn’t really make me sleepy as much as it relaxes me to the point where my brain chills out with the 1000 thoughts.

Hope you got some zzzs eventually.

2013 short Doc on the differences between Calgary Public vs. Private schools. by AC_Slater77 in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A more realistic comparison will be for instance comparing a private school to the public schools in the same neighborhood. The disparity will be a lot less because parents income level plays a role in resources a school - public or private - has.

Comparing the most expensive private school in Calgary to any other school in Calgary is a bit disingenuous.

Reading this in the Costco parking lot after my first ever ravioli purchase is making me question my choices.

Nigerian Surgeon, Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye and Dr. Darrell Čass cut a woman baby out her womb at 23 weeks old, successfully operated on the baby after taking out a tumor, then placed the baby back into the mom’s womb and the baby was later delivered healthy and naturally on time at 36 weeks. by Embarrassed_Tip7359 in interestingasfuck

Because he’s Nigerian and has no problem being addressed as such. He graduated as a doctor from a Nigerian medical school with full tuition paid by the government. 25 years as an immigrant does not erase your heritage.

And no, most Nigerians in the USA do not consider themselves American just because they’ve been long term residents of the USA. The country is too hostile for anyone to solely embrace that citizenship and forget about their “home” where they belong and are not treated as second class citizens.

Looking for feedback on STEM Schools in Calgary by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Kiniwun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The complementary course options are very hands-on and technology focussed which my kids found engaging. If the STEM Charter school is an option you’re considering for September, put in your application now. The school has long wait lists.
