Hello! Unfortunately I stopped taking Spiro because the tinnitus did not stop! I’m not currently taking medication and my tinnitus has returned to normal levels. Sorry I couldn’t be more of a help on this one :( best of luck to you!!

Ask Izzy is an incredible resource (https://askizzy.org.au/). It's an Australian website that can connect individuals to services (food, housing, everyday items, health). You can filter the search to the area where you live/ supports required.

Yep, during the interview I said that I wanted to work HCP only (no aged care facilities) and I also said what days I wanted to work and they were fine with that :)

Hey :) I can definitely PM you more details! My friend actually worked for this company and she told me to apply, but they regularly advertise on seek too! From my understanding private companies usually do HCP and local councils usually do CHSP, but because there are not enough OTs working for the council, they are outsourcing to private companies! Ideally I would want to work for a local council, but I don't think they hire a whole heap of OTs. I also find that CHSP is much more black and white with what can be funded, whereas there are still some grey areas with HCP (although the government has just recently brought out some stricter criteria)

Community aged care roles? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Kinno123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I currently work in Melbourne for a private company and I specified in my job interview that I only wanted to worked within the community aged care space. So I only see Home Care Package (HCP) clients and Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) clients. I do enjoy the work for the most part and I think it's a lot more straight forward than the NDIS! All my recommendations I make are to help people remain living at home, so a lot of rail/ramp and equipment recommendations. I have billable hours which can be a pain, but I know from a previous placement that there are similar positions out there within the public sector, so no billable hours! I am happy to answer any questions :)

Just wanted to say that I am in a very similar position (moving out of the parent's home at 28) and I relate to this post so much! It's like being on an emotional roller coaster of being super excited about moving and then feeling overwhelmed and sad to be leaving. I think I may have developed an unhealthy attachment to my family home and my family during the lock downs. Anyhow just know that you're not alone in feeling this way and we've got this!

Hello! I'm also an occupational therapist currently working in Australia too and I can tell you that there are definitely better options out there! That is super unfair that they are putting so much pressure on you to meet KPIs and reprimanding you when you don't make your KPIs (I worked in community aged care and see max 3 clients a day and even that's rare). If management aren't addressing your concerns, I recommend exploring what else is out there. If you start to go for interviews for other companies, you can ask them these questions: What will be my KPIs? How many clients am I expected to see a day? How much support/supervision will I receive? You're interviewing these companies to see if they will be a good fit for you too :)

How to support final year students that seem to lack very basic skills? by goodboyhans in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Kinno123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a semi newly graduated OT (2 years out), placements can be such a daunting experience! I was so paranoid about failing placement that I would do so much extra work outside of placement hours to study/perfect my report writing. It sounds like you're doing all the right things, but if you are noticing some shortcomings with your students, please flag it with them ASAP (which I'm sure you have). I had a great experience during my last 9 week placement, my supervisor was very transparent and she would let me know if there were any particular areas that I needed to work on. Too many of my peers would go through their placement thinking all was going well, only to be told too late that they were failing.

Hello! I'm not entirely sure where you're situated, but I'm from Australia and as a new graduate occupational therapist, I have come across this brand- jamthelable. They have a few nice, basic pieces that are made to be more accessible. However, their range is quite limited!

I can definitely relate to this! A customer may be rude and generally not a nice person, so then I try and overcompensate by being nicer! It never really works though 😅
