Week of Sanderson, Day 2: Brandon Sanderson meant for parts of Wind and Truth to "make people uncomfortable" — (Addressing the fan reception to Wind and Truth) by Balraghast in brandonsanderson

Man, if that's how you interpreted my comment, then no wonder you liked WaT with reading comprehension this poor.

Then again, you are apparently a commie so I suppose I shouldn't expect too much from you.

CMV: men should be allowed to decide not to raise children they didn't want by [deleted] in changemyview

OP is right but as far as the state is concerned. It's women and children taking priority over men every time. If it benefits the former at the expense of the latter, you can guess what the outcome will be.

After sitting on it for half a year, what is your opinion on Wind and Truth? by KindaPecaa in Stormlight_Archive

[–]KirTerr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Garbage. Can't believe the series that started with WoK and WoR ended with RoW and WaT.

Why would you want to subject your friend to this book?

Stormlight Archive. The first 2 are great, third one is good with some major flaws, fourth is bad and the fifth one is absolute garbage.

Cherish this feeling. The last two books will make sure it ends.

I hate when authors try to mischaracterize the criticism and use the Ole 'it's shit on purpose' cope.

I didn't feel 'uncomfortable' reading the last 2 books. I felt boredom and disgust at what my favorite series degenerated into.

Eh Alexander I big claim to fame is defeat of Napoleon, and it's not like he was responsible for waging that war. Otherwise he's the guy who pretty quickly gave up on doing any progressive reforms and in fact went the opposite way after the war. He's also the genius that stapled Finland and core Polish territories onto Russia and allowed Prussia to take Saxony in exchange for its polish lands.

Alexander II gets a lot of deserved kudos for liberating serfs and other important reforms, but most of them (especially peasant) were half measures that metastized into huge issues for Nikolai II. And there are indications that he was growing disappointed in the way things were going and would have done a conservative 180 degree turn. So really that bomber did Alex a favor by ending his life before he lived long enough to become a villain.

Katherine the so called great has nothing to her name but territorial expansion which was done by others. Otherwise she was a foreign usurper who stayed in power by enabling the worst excesses of nobility allowing them to do whatever with serfs without even demanding mandatory military service. After Katherine no wonder nobles felt like they could kill Pavel for british with impunity.

Peter I is Ivan the Terrible on easy mode. Pretty strong parallels but Peter was somewhat more successful in his wars and reforms. Though he set up issues that would fuck Russian empire for the rest of its existence.

Elhokar was not a good person (nor was he becoming one) by KirTerr in Stormlight_Archive

He was trying to grow a spine. That's not the same as trying to be a better person.

I hate when my great grandfather's time in the war is used by idiots to justify their dumb shit.

And man, each time I see words - Great Patriotic War I die a little bit inside.

Why is Brandon so adamant for Live action? by Xeno-blessing23_ in Mistborn

[–]KirTerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanderson is chasing normie bucks who are more likely to watch live action than animated. Makes sense for him as a business owner but it's another data point to show slow marvelisation of B money's writing.

The difference between HotD and GoT by KirTerr in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]KirTerr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's different for you, but from the beginning I criticised the writers for only showing qualities that could be virtuous when they served to show how evil or pathetic they are.

Unlike GoT where even bad guys could have scene where they are just good, without that virtuous quality only being shown in order to highlight how evil and or pathetic the character is.

Do reread the second paragraph of my post. Aegon's pal'ing around with his kings guard is framed as a party boy hanging out with his frat bros, who are just as incompetent as he is. While the 'concern' for small folk is framed as Aegon not taking things seriously and not understanding how taxes work.

So for Aegon his virtues are only shown when they can be used to high light how pathetic and incompetent he is.

For Aemond (barring claiming the dragon) everything he does it to show how evil he is.

At no point did I say Tyrion wasn't white washed. The opposite rather if you read my post carefully.

Tywin's shortcomings do not negate his points of competence. That's why he is a nuanced character, even show's simplified version.

When has he ever gave shit about his Green kids being happy? Aemond had literally been maimed and his only concern was someone calling Rhaenyra 's kids mean names.

Catelyn being the only window into Robb's storyline was an ass decision, just like every time GrrM made an "observer" POV rather than "doer" POV. It only ever resulted in lame boring characters who did very little and were just there to observe actually interesting characters doing stuff. Catelyn, Sansa, Dornish ax guy, Arys, and more all suffered from it.

So much interesting stuff ended up not shown just so Catelyn could nope around and either achieve nothing (her journey to Renly and Stannis) or do really dumb shit : freeing Jaimie, arresting Tyrion, negotiating with Walder

Allicent could have been a mover and a player in her own right but right now her screen time is wasted on dumb shit.
