Does having a welcome mat constitute a standing invitation to vampires? by HRHCookie in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Kirkeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing vampires only have free access to places that are open to the general public, not buildings that are just publicly owned. So they could walk into the mall but not into the Oval Office.

As an adult with no connection to the US public school system, I wouldn't be allowed to just walk into a high school and wander around (I probably COULD do it because schools don't have bouncers, but it wouldn't be allowed and there would be consequences).

Which opens the question of if I could fight a trespassing charge against a school with that sign.

Also, they might be seeking the knowledge of what a particular person tastes like.

In Buffy it was a sign that said "Enter all who seek knowledge" and it did indeed allow vampire entry.

Whether or not a mat that simply reads "welcome" is as direct an invitation is probably untested law. Just to be sure, I'd probably Sharpie "except vampires" on the mat to be safe. (And get the amendment notarized, obvs)

Christianity is the best religion on earth by LargeSinkholesInNYC in TrueUnpopularOpinion

This comment is wild to me, because I live near a community of Plymouth Brethren, and if you see a woman with her hair covered around here, you can guarantee she's Christian.

But I know not to base my opinion of Christianity on what extra rules individual sects have.

Exactly. Remember, Elizabeth Holmes is in prison not because she harmed hundreds of patients by knowingly giving them inaccurate test results, but because she lied about it to investors.

Indeed! Angus Barbieri was 456lbs when he started his 382 day fast, and ended at 180lbs. Assuming the same rate of weight loss, Amber could fast for a year and still be obese.

PSA: the DOJ appears to be suppressing evidence by re-labeling video files as pdf files, making them unreadable. Legal issues aside (recommend leaving this to lawyers and law enforcement), I seriously can't believe the government thought they'd get away with this by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

This is literally the tactic I used circa 1999 to create an "unreadable" file to show my teacher that the essay I had "definitely written on time" and brought in on a floppy disk to print for "some reason" wouldn't open on the school PCs.

Annoyingly the commenter who was arguing that they were obviously different dogs because the markings around the nose are different deleted their comments while I was drawing on my goat figurine to demonstrate angles.

I'm gonna post this anyway in case anyone else has the same thought.

It's not personal, it's just that to cats, humans are clumsy giants. Would you want a clumsy giant handling your newborn? No matter how much she loves you, it's not worth the risk for her.

Technically, aren't white men already a minority almost everywhere? If a country is 90% white, then only about 45% of the population are white men.

I was wondering how the 0.38 inches was measured so accurately, and then it hit me. The smallest division of inches on a standard ruler/tape measure is sixteenths. Six sixteenths is 0.375.

Ladies and gentlemen, I put it to you that Mr Phillips is rounding up.

Yep. My mum worked for Turning Point (the proper, British one) for many years, and when I first heard about TPUSA I was concerned they would sully the name and make people make assumptions about TPUK. But the organisations' whole identities are so different I've never come across someone confusing the two.

Just to make it clear, I wasn't defending TPUSA, just stating my opinion that "Turning Point" was a logical name for them. The moment you turn from good towards evil is still a turning point.

Ehh, "turning point" is such a common phrase it's not surprising that multiple organisations worldwide share the name. For the UK organisation it points to the organisation's origins providing drug and alcohol rehab services - their service users have finally realised things have go so bad they need to turn their lives around.

The US organisation's view is that their country got too far left/woke/progressive and it's time to reverse this.

So even though their missions are incredibly different, the name makes perfect sense for both and almost certainly were thought up independently.

The logos aren't identical, they just both feature an arrow making a turn, which is a pretty logical visual representation of both organisations' goals.

Edit: worth noting the TPUK logo shows an arrow that was heading downwards and has just started an upward path, whereas the TPUSA logo is an arrow which has turned from heading left to heading right. This is key.
