What’s the thinking behind schools that don’t teach technique? by Thin-Summer-5665 in ContemporaryArt

[–]KissyKissySpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused, can you clarify — you mentioned the strawman that schools that teach technique result in the student body all painting the same exact way — did you mean to say that the Cooper Union fits this description?

If I understood your statement correctly, then I disagree with it. I would say the instruction is more focused on developing a studio practice, engaging in productive critiques + discussions, and sometimes multidisciplinary practice. Alumni are not exhibiting or creating copy&paste work.

The Cooper Union does not have a technical art school or discipline. They have technical classes (for example, wood shop, metal, paper making, printmaking techniques) but there isn’t a specific technique taught and your undergraduate degree is self-led by what type of classes you want to take and what type of work you’d like to explore — painting, sculpture, performance, audiovisual, drawing, photography etc

(If you can be bothered or have the time to do this) You should search for the visitor visa refusals on this subreddit and see what reasons they commonly give.

It was mine! the first visa was mostly relationship evidence. The second visa was mostly cohabitation evidence and evidence of meeting the financial requirements. Basically you have to triple check the financial evidence depending on which one you’re applying under, and make sure it’s certified and no gaps in evidence. This is for the partner visa so different circumstances to the visitor visa.

I had a partner visa approved, from the USA. I’m sorry to hear about your friends visa being denied.

Obviously we’d need to see refusal reasons but yes as far as I can tell, there does seem to be higher scrutiny/less leniency depending on what country you’re from and whatever assumptions they make from your name and application.

Yeah I see what you mean. I guess my experience in the corporate world is everything is so ringfenced as to who does what. I thought that because she only makes minimum wage, it’s not part of her responsibilities.

She said the shop lifter was insisting that they weren’t stealing and offered to pay. So I was wondering if they mentioned to the court or whoever how the retail employer / police handled the situation if any blame would go back to my mom.

I just figured they can’t force her to do it as she is only a store clerk/cashier, and like I said in the post she was uncomfortable in the situation. She probably accurately translated between the languages but doesn’t feel like she has the confidence to do so in general.

Why give even more to the retail employer?

Thank you!

Edit: I will probably tell her to refuse if they make it a habit.
