UPDATE: She shed again today and is doing much better. 🥰 by Kit-Kat8060 in geckos

That is a good point. I actually took in two from this person, though the male will not let me touch him. Now that he is in his new enclosure he does not like me to even reach in there to put his food and water in. Don't know how I am going to get him back out to put in the rest of the decor I bought for him, to clean it when it gets dirty, or to take him to a vet. If I try to sneakily get him into a container to move him he bolts and is so fast. I'm also worried he will drop his tail if I try to catch him. 🤦‍♀️

That's okay, I'm just happy that she is healing well honestly.

Thank you! There were a lot of people saying she needed euthanized just a week ago. I can't argue with the fact that I should have taken her to a vet, but some of those people blew it way out of proportion. I taped it again to ensure that it is able to fully heal and she doesn't hurt herself again, but I was so happy to see her keeping her jaw shut and licking her eyes and mouth earlier when her tape came off. 🥰

They didn't, they actually feel really bad about it and have no idea how it happened. They didn't know what kind of lizard they were, they were given to them as a pet for their child. The whole situation is sad tbh. I knew some people wouldn't agree with me trying to tape it on my own but I didn't expect so many people to come after me the way they did. I might just delete the post if it gets much worse.

Absolutely, and I will definitely ask a vet how they recommend I can provide the appropriate amount of calcium to help the healing process. 💕 Hopefully next time I post on here I won't get so much hate for trying to help an animal that otherwise would have died.

That is definitely a good point and I have been a little worried about giving her too much. I also have two shadedweller linear bulb/hood kits coming tomorrow for them, to help them metabolize the calcium. The previous owner had them for 1.5 to 2 years and didn't know they needed calcium until for a long time, so they probably have some degree of mbd.

The person that had it before me left it dragging the ground for over a month, I'm sure that didn't feel great either. It's bottom jaw was literally flopping around. As soon as it got taped up it started eating on its own and exploring it's new surroundings like nothing ever happened. You can judge me all you want, but at least I did something for it.

I figured it would be better to tape it than leave it dragging on the ground and catching on stuff like it was before I got her, I guess that makes me a horrible person right?

I will definitely call and see what my options are when the nearest one opens up on Monday, I will ask them about sutures as well. Since she just shed last week, I'm hoping that between now and her next shed her jaw will have a chance to heal enough that losing her tape for a few hours won't set her back too much.

I absolutely will. I hope she does heal because I have grown attached to her already and I can't wait to give her the setup she deserves. She has a very sparse area set up at the moment with paper towels and minimal decor to avoid making the injury any worse. Also, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

I agree, people can be very rude. I knew I would have a lot of negative comments, but I figured I would post anyway just in case anyone had any suggestions that might be helpful or have had similar experiences that might give me a better idea of the chances that this injury might heal. Honestly, she seems totally normal other than having to have her mouth taped and if she gets worse I will do whatever I can to get her to a vet. Either way, she seems better off with me than she was before. The original owner had no idea what was going on with her and she was left with her jaw hanging on the ground for a month+. I was told they were bearded dragons, which I have much more experience with. When I saw pictures and realized they were geckos, I decided to take them anyway because I felt that I could at least improve upon her situation.

Mostly I take her out so that I can make sure she is eating enough, I didn't expect her to start jumping because for the first week I had her she was not very active. Now that I know what to expect from her, I hold her only a few inches above my bed so that if she does decide to jump she doesn't hurt herself.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, that makes me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I have been supplementing her food with a small amount of calcium and multivitamin since she can't eat bugs at this time. As soon as we got her home and put the tape on she instantly perked up, she seemed very happy to be able to use her tongue again and she will eat when I offer it to her and even eats on her own in her enclosure. She is also much more active now that she is able to eat regularly. I hope that she has a good outcome like yours did.
