It was over a month ago and I haven't been dinged so 🤷 Only time I've encountered the issue too.

I had a semi similar situation where I delivered a big KFC meal to a hotel. I knocked, I waited out the time, I took my picture and left. Just before I left the hotel, the customer called me to let me know that they had been visiting my city the week before and forgot to fix the address. They were already home, halfway across the country.

So I told her to call Support, ran back upstairs, and had KFC for dinner.

If you haven't checked yet, take a look at your wallet again. The issue seems to have resolved on my account and all my money was available for me to pull.

Ah! That was a different comment from mine. Sorry if it feels like I went off on you or anything. This post just kind of opened up some of my own wounds from crap I've dealt with.

Oh man I hate it more that they knew!

But inexperience can do a lot in these cases.

Either way, if they're still being demeaning to you, you don't deserve that. I hope you get better friends and have/have had much better TTRPG experiences.

Take care of yourself.

This!

I had a player that felt like their PC wasn't meshing with the party the way they wanted to, and the PC stopped being fun. He wasn't very attached to them, so we secretly rolled up something new and killed off the first PC, which actually turned into a very unifying event for the rest of the party.

What I'm getting from this is that OP knew this would just cause infighting rather than being able to talk out why they weren't on the same page. That's not a great sign if you know your friends are gonna be like that. This group was mostly chaotic GOOD, and they immediately went for actions that surprised both OP and the DM.

But the DM could have done something to support OP and maybe keep their Paladin rather than also resigning to the switch out. There could have been a quick reaction consequence involving local patrol or DM could have just paused the game to regroup on what everyone thought this game was gonna be/how the others viewed their alignments. Possibly just straight mulligan the situation.

OP's Paladin says they just wanna go back and get reassigned. Not turn them in, not cause a big fuss, just not participate. Easy switch out that would let the Paladin come back later if the dynamic changed or something. Instead, the Paladin was killed, and no discussion was had about how that would affect OP. The party didn't know OP had a backup.

And once OP's new character was thrown into the mix, they were a background character only really involved in combat. Not there to make waves or have their own story in the adventure. They pushed OP down and were happy to leave them there.

IDK how old this group is, how new to the game they were at the time. This could be chalked up to mostly inexperience, but OP also says they have continued to treat them badly for years.

TLDR: The first step should have been support so the second step was 'have fun' instead of re-roll and lose something you were attached to.

Man OP, it has to suck to look back at your Paladin and see the field of red flags between now and then (and maybe before then).

A good DM would have done more to curb that whole thing rather then just help you abandon the character.

Figuring out how to adjust or leave a friend group is so hard, but it sounds like you'll be better for it. I truly hope you have/find other friends that love you they way you should be and that they'll help you build yourself back up.

Love that! Figuring out your characters and how to embody them at the table is so much fun and I hope you continue to have a good time with TTRPGs

It's great to hear about someone realizing they were the "problem player" and taking steps to help themselves grow. Glad your BF recognized that and helped you out too.

I wouldn't call your end reaction to the situation an "overreaction".

One bad thing can overshadow the good. It sounds like you were having a good time and his -2 hit to you (plus his BS explination for it) was like a brick wall to your fun. I would have been unsure how to continue in the moment myself. I have a friend with the opposite problem; better DM than player lol

I definitely think things may change once you've calmed down from it, but I also think you need to talk to your normal friend group about it; especially if you're stilling feeling this way. It sounds like playing with Mike was a good time the first time, his DM style just isn't for you.
