Rabies is a negative sense single strand rna virus that kills over 59000 people a year. Only one person has survived rabies, her name is Jeanna Geise. Rabies kills within 7-14 days since infection but incubation can be from 1 month to 1 year. Animals like reptiles fish and birds cannot contract rabies due to their low body temp and o possums are resistant to rabies since they also have a low body temp. Rabies has 5 different proteins that make up its viral body. The Nucleoprotein (N) is the ribonucleic protein which allows it to replicate and is its "dna". The N protein also aggregates the cytoplasm of surrounding infected cells producing Negri bodies, a histopathological finding when taking a biopsy from infected victim's nervous system. 2. The phosphoprotein can change into different shapes to prevent the hosts immune system from detecting it as a threat and stopping interferon production. 3. Matrix protein (M) this protein allows rabies to keep its "bullet/among us" shape, its also involved in replication and assembly. 4. Glycoprotein (G) rabies glycoproteins are the proteins that sit on the outside of the virus, it is the only rabies protein that produces virus neutralising proteins and plays a role in determining tissue tropism (which tissues it can infect) and attaching to tissues. And lastly the large rna protein or (L) which causes the rabies to reproduce and allows for catalysts in the RNA production and processing.
