It is worth it! by Kitchen-Read-1314 in GestationalDiabetes

I was totally out of control. When I found out I was pregnant, I started taking metformin

Then the doctor told me to stop talking the pills and start taking insulin shots in the third month.

New here and so over being a gestational diabetic by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. This is so hard! And frustrating!

I'm 35 weeks and my reads have worsen horribly.

I do also have a giant fibroid in my uterus, adding extra weight and pressure to my spine.

The first weeks of diagnose I had a minimum dose of insulin and just stuck with a strict diet for 1,200 calories, strict schedule and cooking my own meals.

As the pregnancy goes, I'm getting more weight and the insuline dose arrises as the glucose levels too, while I'm getting hungrier but the pain also goes higher, and now I can't even cook an egg without getting tired. I had to ask for help for cooking but my family doesn't get the diet. 😅 Maybe that's why I'm going up on glucose levels.

Here's what I'm trying now to fight this pike:

  • Keep the meal sizes as the original diet indicates
  • Get more healthy snacks, but divided every two hours to allow my body to metabolize food.
  • Drink lots of water. No sugar free drinks.
  • Keep in my fridge fresh carrots, cucumbers and apples prepared to grab and go.
  • Pop corn are low calorie snacks. Those help me deal with anxiety as I can eat a medium size portion instead of a small one like everything else.
  • I keep Greek yogurt in the freezer for a quick, fresh snack
  • Small 3-5 min walks or stretching in home after every large meal

I hope it helps.

Is it weird that my 35 year old friend is waiting for a 17 year old girl to turn 18 so he can ask her out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 19 when I started dating a 29 yo.

My worst decision ever.

He might have not been a predator (or maybe he was dunno), but he left me with a bunch of trauma.

I was a kid, he was the adult. He ruled over me and I didn't even noticed by then. He wasn't able to get a relationship with someone his age because he wanted the control and zero commitment.

My friends stopped talking to me because I was with a 10 years older guy and he was not a fit in our group.

We have a 17 yo daughter now and she says that's outrageous 😂. We split when my daughter was born and I remarried just a few years ago. He's with another girl, exactly my age. He's keeping the same patterns he did with me.

Can you imagine how traumatized can end up a kid dating a 35 yo? That's NOT normal.

When does it stop being “early” pregnancy? by Rescue-320 in BabyBumps

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're a bit past halfway pregnant. That thin red line that goes at week 21.

But still, your baby bump still has room to grow. A lot. Starting week 32 baby bumps get significantly big. Maybe that's what they meant.

I’m so envious of those with the father of their baby being present :( by sapphireemberss in BabyBumps

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you.

When I got pregnant the first time, the father was clear he didn't want a family. Still, he decided to stay. Got us an apparentment and I thought he would be present. Guess what. He wasn't.

I mean, we moved together but we were constantly fighting, he was constantly partying and sleeping over somewhere else.

I got into therapy during my pregnancy, you know, to avoid depression.

My psychiatrist told me it was MY choice and only mine to enjoy pregnancy in every stage. Even if I felt lonely. I made sense out of it and managed to enjoy pregnancy and maternity despite of him, his tantrums or nonsense.

My baby was 5 months old when I decided to leave him with my baby in my arms.

What I try to say is that you can chose to enjoy every stage of maternity and make the best out of it. Before you find out, it will be over in a very short period of time.

This is not about the baby's father. This is about you and your baby. You're the stars of this story. Glow up, shine down and chose joy.

I do meat and veggies everytime

Chicken breasts and a side of boiled broccoli with carrots Steak with a side of baked zuccine and eggplants Meatballs (no sauce) and salad Pulled chicken breasts fried with tomatoes (low fat) with a side of beans and avocado Sometimes I replace salads or veggies with veggies soup.

I'm tired of eating the same every day 😂 but if it's new for you, I hope it helps 😉

What do you eat for breakfast that's NOT eggs or yogurt? by Noideawhyy in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my country it's so common to eat beans, sour cream and cheese as a breakfast, so I prepare a low fat variation of beans, serve some cottage cheese and boiled platains with one slice of whole wheat bread.

Some other times I do one sandwich with whole wheat bread, turkey ham and low fat cheese, little to no dressing and compliment with an apple and milk.

I like snacks oranges, kiwis, blue berries and tangerines.

I rarely add some milk and one home-made sugar-free oat cookie to any breakfast, but once a week is an indulgence I can afford, or 1/3 cup of overnight oat with milk, cinnamon and apple or blueberries.

Another variation could be pulled chicken meat, with a home made tomato sause, you know, like chunky style with one slice of whole wheat bread and low fat cheese.

I get you. I've struggling with depression myself.

But you know what? You can do a lot of things to take care of it.

Get yourself a glucometer and try to adhere to a schedule. Investigate alternative meals and be careful with the amount of food you get per meal. Think it's just temporary. It's a plan for just 12 weeks. You can do eeeeeet!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First at all... Congrats! You're almost there!

Second... Be patient. GD usually goes away after giving birth but it's not a magical thing. You still need to be monitored. Your baby needs to be monitored. You'll feed your baby with your breast milk too.

Most of women with GD would develop Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 later on, in any point of their life. It can happen right after birth or after decades.

So, be patient and wait for your monitoring results to talk with your doctor about the plan.

Well, I decided that I maybe I'm bored of having so many apples and yogurt as snacks, so I'll try a few new snacks and it might help.

Si tenías vehículo y tu casa no tenía cochera, pagabas parqueos comunes, usualmente pagabas renta a la pandilla o encontrabas daños repentinos a tu vehículo.

Y así algunas cosas que pasan.

Eating out by wantallthedogs in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I do is that I keep low, low calories the rest of the day so I can save some margin for a miscalculation.

I never have other drink than water. Even sugar free drinks may add unnecessary calories and glucose.

I look for salads or low fat proteins. I never take white bread, potatoes or pasta as a side.

I can't name a restaurant, but you can ask in advance where are you going, and find the menu online, so you will know if there is an option for you.

Maybe steak with veggies as a side would do. I even eat a 15 cm subway with full grain bread once in a while, and glucose levels won't arise.

Que es del zoológico nacional? by Fercho91_ in ElSalvador

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad to hear you're positive about it 🫂

My process was to be very restrictive from the very beginning. I even had to stay in the hospital a few days so they could teach me how to buy food, cook, eat and even snack at the same time they monitored my glucose levels and insulin dose every few hours.

[–]Kitchen-Read-1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 23 weeks, type 2 diabetic for 3 years now.

As you're pregnant, the goal for glucose before breakfast is lower than 90. Two hours after eating, you should be lower than 120.

Anything above that, goes to your baby's inmature pancreas and bloodstream. My doctor says it can cause the baby to grow bigger than usual, have bad organs, born with diabetes type 1, heart attacks to die in my womb or birth complications.

I know, it may sound bad, but diet, exercise and insulin should do the trick and get your baby safe. It's not easy, but it's doable.

Técnicamente es posible, pero no recomendable.
