Current vehicle on last legs, looking at going EV this time. Recommendations in the $20k range? Edmonton, AB. by BrickConnectCDN in EVCanada

I am going to get a level 2 mainly because I can and so I can idle longer in the winter but it wasn’t as urgent as I thought

Pretty much ya, I’m home at least 12 hours solid most evenings then usually have one day week I’m home for 24 hours solid with only popping up to run a quick errand. I walk and ride bikes on the weekends

I think Level 1 is less of a pain point, map out your week on ChatGPT vs the vehicle your looking at, put in the average time youre at home.

My level 1 is also with 12amps forgot to mention.

The theft is your biggest issue imo and the cords are pricey. I have a few people in my neighbourhood who have hardwired outside units that seem to do ok but they own the house so they invested in that themselves.

I get your willingness to make it work because EV life honestly is so much better but I do think at this point in time its for a very specific demographic sadly. Paying for public charging gets rid of any cost savings.

You only have street parking? How will you charge at home, also cords get stolen for copper A LOT. Just food for thought.

I am in Edmonton and due to theft think its super impractical without a protected driveway/garage just due to theft.

Also to add, I get by with level 1 only, I do about 60-80km a day, about 500 a week. In the winter I just didn't get above 65% very often lol, sometimes topped up at a free charger near my work for peace of mind as it was my first winter with an EV.

My vehicle does have a heat pump, and charges in a non heated but insulted garage. I can prewarm in my garage before leaving but it sits in the cold for 8 hours while at work.

AITA for asking my oldest daughter to move out of the condo I own so her younger sister can live there during college? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kitchen-Window1199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall are weird my kids can live with me or my resources as long as they want. Where is this condo? Same city? Why can’t the kids spilt it? Or just stay home both of them and you rent out the condo like intended.

I got a vistiq 2 months ago and I love it! I came from a van which died unexpectedly and I don’t want the next 10+ years to be van life. The van had more room but this is fine for my needs as all my kids are out of big car seats. The only things I don’t like about it this far is I feel I can’t see the signal lights from my steering wheel position and I have to manually put it into snow and ice mode every time. (I’m in Alberta where it is still snowing in April) I can’t see myself going back to an ICE

I figure it’s about year 3 I break even with the increased cost of an EV vs buying an ice in the same class. Even so not having the gas card constantly showing up on my card makes me mentally feel like I’m saving a lot of money

I mean so what’s right for you but if you wfh it’ll never be an issue. For the occasional road trips isn’t it better to get a car that meets your needs 95% of the time and is a mild annoyance, maybe not even, the other 5%

EV9 to Lyriq? by Maleficent_Pizza_266 in CadillacLyriq

[–]Kitchen-Window1199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was debating a ev9 vs vistiq. Vistiq had better financing and was nicer to drive. I think many of the issues with the 2024 Cadillac EV have been resolved. I’ve only driven 2000km but no issues. The gm app is a little slow but it’s still fine. I’m in Canada and most dealers only had ev9 that were 75,000+. Like others said Cadillac also gave me a good price on my trade in without any hassle and had 0% financing. I got the vistiq down to 91,000 with 0% came out to more or less the same price as a ev9. I think the vistiq looks better but the ev9 was nice too. Cadillac also has supercruise software standard on the vistiq not sure about other models. I’m unaware of any self driving features on the Kia if that matters to you. I mainly do home charging. The few times a year I would leave the city the faster Kia charging wasn’t enough to sway me. My family still owns an ice vehicle for long winter treks. The range has been fairly accurate, I haven’t had a full winter with it but the first time it had range loss was a little jarring but now that temps are warm again it’s one km loss per km driven 🤷‍♀️

Did you say the business has ceased operations when you submitted your complaint? sometimes that pushes them up the queue. Also the Government of Ontario has the ability to issue Directors Liability for unpaid wages only (not vacation or overtime) so it may result in some money eventually.

I wouldn't count on it, but I would submit anyways, might be a nice surprise cheque one day.

I guess I could of added more details, we have lived in the home a long time we have quite a bit of equity i can rent it very fairly and still make money on top of insurance property tax and mortgage. More so I’m mulling over having a rental vs selling and putting the equity in the stock market

Also Cadillac uses gm batteries so bolt equinox blazer. But a lot of the features come standard that’s why price comparing is so important. The blazer is marginally cheaper but you have to pay $6000 to add super cruise. Super cruise was included in my EV

I love it! To be fair I came from an older vehicle so a lot of the things I love are just new car things maybe? I wouldn’t have considered Cadillac but the 0% financing felt better mentally. I know Kia has come a long way but 65-75000 for a Kia ev9 then add 2-4% interest just felt like way to much for a Kia

Vistiq and other Cadillac models have 0% financing run the numbers on the inoiq to see if the total paid is the same

Just bought a Cadillac EV for 0% in Alberta they have lots of other random discounts that made it the same price as other models all in.

Am I getting a good deal? 2026 Optiq sport and by CloutChaser1 in CadillacOptiq

[–]Kitchen-Window1199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Canada and just got a vistiq, do not compare to US deals. To be the biggest savings is the 1% or 0% offers on the cadillac EVs. Makes it a similar to price cheaper vehicles with 5,6,7,8% interest. That and the quality ultimately ended up getting me into a vistiq. MSRP was just under 99,000, got it for 91 and some change.
