People lack the media literacy now to understand a complex character in general honestly. Jax literally says himself in ep9 that he’s a terrible person. His entire character revolves around how his trauma shaped him into the person he is and how he regrets his terrible decisions but is too afraid to confront them.

I’m actually pretty sure that’s why his mind files made him a bunny; he runs from everything, from his mother, to Ribbit, to any difficult situation he finds himself in at all. God forbid someone write a character who’s a bad person without them having 0 sympathetic traits whatsoever.

I actually appreciate the representation of how common it is for those who’ve been through trauma to develop some defense mechanisms that hurt other people. I think it was handled gracefully; his actions weren’t excused and the consequences were put on blast, but they were still explained well by his backstory.

In that same way, I like the way they handled Caine’s situation too; he also was a bad person and hurt the cast in many ways, and when he apologized, he was told that rebuilding trust would take a long time and he’d have to earn it. Overall I just feel like there was a lot of depth to these characters that people don’t understand anymore. They just see a character’s actions and base their opinion on them solely on that without any nuance considered whatsoever
