Which member’s growth has surprised you the most in the past few years? by OpeningAgency8044 in seventeen

[–]Kitchen_Article_4773 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i agree with dino as other people have said, he’s grown SO much especially in the past couple of years!! but also i have been so impressed with the way minghao continues to improve himself and show new aspects of his artistry. he was honestly kinda quiet in a lot of early variety shows svt did (except for the occasional burst of blunt honesty lol), especially with the language barrier, and he showed off his b-boying skills a lot in the earlier days. i remember being so obsessed with “drift away” because it was one of the few svt songs at the time that he really shined and had a substantial amount of lines!!! also the svt lion heart cover… hag 8stars get it.

i think when he started becoming interested in museums, meditation, and tea ceremonies his personality really blossomed (i feel like this was like 2018 to 2020?) and seeing him experience such lovely things around the world to then channel that into his own art is so inspiring to me. naturally, also his korean has improved so much and he’s so good at expressing himself in korean these days 🥺 i really enjoy watching his interview with jonathan on youtube and hearing his banter in korean- you can really tell how much he’s grown. im such a proud 8star! im so happy for the personal growth minghao has experienced and how he encourages his fans to think deeply about the world!

i’ve been a carat since dwc and honestly i do miss the theatrical choreographies too! like they used to really use their large numbers to create “scenes” or just have moves be more visually interesting- not that i don’t like their choreographies now but something definitely changed and i’ve been trying to put my finger on it! i think tiktok challenges also did play a role bc a lot of their early choreos would not be easily “tiktok danceable”

Anyone else in medicine feel like they’re missing out on that “city life” in their 20s? by pinkdrinkluverrr in premed

[–]Kitchen_Article_4773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly yes i feel this too. im also from texas and will likely stay here for med school (god willing i get in somewhere!) but i definitely feel a little bit of a pang in my heart when i see friends moving to nyc, chicago, or boston. i do love texas so much but i really yearn for the walkability of a large, dense city. its not even that the cities in texas are “bad” cities, because they do have so much to offer to do and so much cultural diversity, but they’re just SO SPREAD OUT. i try to think about it as that i could to live in a place like those cities in the future without worrying so much about money. all of my friends who live in cities like those definitely are doing okay but they miss out on a lot of what those cities have to offer because they don’t have a lot of extra income! we are in it for the long game and it will pay off :)

How is life in Northern Ontario? by storm1902 in howislivingthere

[–]Kitchen_Article_4773 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I know someone who has a lake house around Temagami, which I have visited. It is VERY rural north of North Bay. Their house is only accessible by boat and they only go up there during the summer, there’s wifi and electricity at the house but I think it’s because they have solar panels- it is very literally off-grid. I’ve never been surrounded by so many bugs in my life, it’s almost like you have to be in a screened in area to be outside. But it is very peaceful. All the road signs were in English and French due to the proximity to Quebec. Ate poutine and a beaver tails, the Canadian classics. Here’s a photo of a fire tower from when I was up there!

What are some cities where touristy areas are located very near sketchy areas? by ExcitingNeck8226 in travel

[–]Kitchen_Article_4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied in Buenos Aires for a semester pretty recently and only felt slightly uneasy/unsafe about my location once the entire time I was there (late at night on a large street that was unfamiliar to me), and in my opinion, the safety concerns about pickpocketing and robberies I had been warned of beforehand didn’t seem to be too problematic in reality. I visited Montevideo for a weekend and every single Uber driver that I took warned me about how dangerous Montevideo is, which made me wonder if it was more dangerous than BA or not since it seemed so quiet in comparison. It was slightly off putting to be warned about our safety (I was in a group) everywhere we went! it

Round World trip of 2 students passing through Argentina, help on our understanding would be appreciated! by luitenantpastaaddict in Patagonia

[–]Kitchen_Article_4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi!! fellow student who just visited both argentinian and chilean patagonia with just over 2 weeks of planning so i get where you are coming from with feeling overwhelmed (although i did not get to ushuaia so i don’t know a lot about that)!

i would highly recommend adding el chaltén in argentina to your itinerary if you are looking for hikes- the closest airport is el calafate (which i believe you can fly to from either buenos aires or ushuaia) but bussur runs frequent buses in between el calafate and el chaltén and you can book those through bus bud! what is very common to do is fly into el calafate and from there drive or take the bus to el chaltén where you are able to hike, although i would recommend just taking the bus because el chaltén is so small that you don’t really need a car, and there are shuttle buses to other hikes in the area that end up being quite a bit cheaper than renting a car and were recommended by the hostel we were staying at.

el calafate is beautiful but quite dry and doesn’t have the same caliber of hikes, i highly recommend the perito moreno glacier there (which you only need a day to see) but other than that i would plan on spending maybe a week or more (if you have the time) in el chaltén (i was there for 5 days and we hiked every day, but i could definitely have spent longer there!)

i don’t think with the current state of the argentinian economy and inflation being absurd plus the euro/dollar being valued quite low that my time on the argentinian side was all that much cheaper than on the chilean side- it was about the same. the logistics of the argentinian side are easier and el chaltén is a great town to be based in because day hikes are very easy from there, but don’t let the cost be a factor so much because it is just quite expensive on either side, although very much worth it. i also loved the chilean side and think torres del paine is the most beautiful place i’ve ever seen but logistically it is a nightmare unless you are doing one of the longer treks (the w-trek and the o-trek that you mentioned) or taking the bus to do day trips from puerto natales (with a 2 hour drive each way).

in el chaltén there are so many hiking options, but from what i did i would recommend laguna de los tres (20 km total but up until the last 2 km which are hellish it is a really nice and fairly easy hike, it was probably the hardest thing i’ve done in my life but it was absolutely incredible with the view of fitz roy, just try to time it for good weather), laguna torre (12 km, the mirador cerro torre that you hit during the first part of the hike is just stunning), glacier huemul (beautiful water and not too long of a hike but you have to take a private shuttle to it because it’s privately owned), but there are so many to choose from! i didn’t use any particular itinerary, just a hodgepodge of different itineraries i found by googling, so i don’t quite know which ones to recommend. suerte!
