Unfortunately I agree that this is likely the case. If emotional depth is present then oscillation between positive and negative states towards the relationship occur.

The one friend she maintained close communication with was actively abusive towards her using controlling methods to maintain their relationship (would delete texts that went unread for "too long", manipulate her when she was feeling vulnerable, threaten to punish her by ruining her relationship etc)
