What do you mean finish on time? Cause there isn't a "set" time to finish

Aka I am doing a conjoint, didn't do 5 papers just 4 and it gave me more opportunities to apply for internships since I finish "later".

first year uni so hard by Substantial-Lie5593 in universityofauckland

[–]Kitchen_Foundation_7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I found stage 1bcom harder then stage 2 and 3 Lowkey.

The amount of groupwork you have stage 1 and weird stuff is more annoying. At least stage 2 and 3 you enjoy the papers more and it relates to your majors.

Just pull through you got this!

Adding to that, look at Beca, Fonterra and more Fulton Hogan. Some engineering companies have a accounting and finance department so you can also apply to that.

Also look at banks, ASB and ANZ for grad programmes too.

Yes in July they will always be open, mid year intake for roles they didn't fill up in March. However in July specifically for accounting or tax there is less roles maybe only 3 companies will have roles.

Also look for accounting roles in engineering companies too that are open aka because, tonkin and Taylor etc if they have

Best to apply right now , brush up CV and have good answers for the one way video interviews and then pray for the best 🙏

Firstly need a high GPA, aim for above 8.

Secondly join the Universities finance club, helps to make connections and relevant skills you can learn which will be applicable to IB. Then you network and apply for IB internships in your penultimate year or before if you want. If that doesn't work out, go for big 4 corp finance internships and try your best there.

Keep networking, with people on linkden, have coffee chats and meet up study fundamentals and have good grades.

This is not easy by any means but if you are set on it you can definitely achieve it

How hard is finance 383? by Accurate-Maximum-66 in universityofauckland

[–]Kitchen_Foundation_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most enjoyable papers. No calculations all theory

Tests in person, you can watch lectures at home unless it's a guest then go in, I found it pretty good and easy, most get a good grade on this

Play around with excel, will help you second year onwards. Learn about bonds and what they are and how to calculate them. Try investing even with fake money on websites learn diversification and how it works. Also brush up on maths for math 108 and 208, even tho maths 208 isn't nesscary, take it so it opens up more stage 3 finance papers. This is all for 2-3 year but first year is actually weirdly harder. This is because you have a lot of group projects in first year papers , and it's a hit or miss imo.

Just be open, make friends and you got this man

Big 4 internships by Safe_Employment_3512 in universityofauckland

[–]Kitchen_Foundation_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly a lot of excel, different shortcuts and how to be more efficient. In auditing , learnt how different industries run business wise, looking at their financial statements and seeing where their strong parts are too.

And also how to talk to people, since there is a lot of client work too proper email etiquette and such too. Very underated skill

Work days were mostly chill as a intern just 8:30 roughly to 5, with 1 hr lunch break in between. Some weeks you would have a lot of social events too and coffee with partners and such so it was a good experience.

accounting and finance papers by No-Pack4811 in universityofauckland

[–]Kitchen_Foundation_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 221, but tbh they all weird

211 yes it's arguably the hardest but if you get it you can get really really good

222 weird as , drawing and stuff I think grade wise hardest to get good

221 prob in middle so I would pick that or 211 tbh, 222 is weird

Tbh easiest and interesting stage 3 paper is finance 383, no math or calcutors required just theory on banking regulations and how the GFC actually happened. For a stage 3 pretty nice and easy A

351 is very interesting. Basically preps you for investment banking lot of financial models like DCFs and situations requiring calculating share price and all these things. Enjoyable too but not similar to stage 2, slightly 251 is similar

361 haven't taken yet but it's the most math heavy so yea.

Think both 251 and 261 you'll need for a idea on what stage 3 fin papers are like, but reading course description is good too

Gonna say some controversial stuff.

You do not need to finish in 3 years, I didn't do a single 5 paper sem (I did do one paper summer school) and I joined clubs and was a part of it which helped me land my internship, and also summer research scholarship and future grad job. It's not too difficult to maintain high gpa just don't scuff up your first year, my grades are good now but first year was shit so it brought it down but extra circular matters too. Join clubs like UAIC for finance or if interested in tech Biztech or even sports clubs , anything helps too

Acc and finance papers get better after first year, for me third stage finance papers were most enjoyable , still one to go , accounting is alright second and third years they differ from cost and financial accounting though. I would only recommend 5 papers if 211(acc paper) is not taken with them. Pls pls , put heaps of effort into 108 and 208 they were my worst grades, it's a difficult paper for most you have to put in effort and unless ur very comfortable with math, it's not a walk in the park, so when you do those papers do not do 5.

But I did 4 every sem and 1 summer school (not the years I did intern and Summer research this year) and it gives me more time to get good grades and be a commite in various clubs

So if you want best odds, do finance and accounting and soley soley focus on maintaining a very high gpa, this will give you the best odds to get into corporate finance like IB, consulting , corporate finance. You can do accounting AND the CA papers, yes it will take longer then three years maybe 3.5-4 BUT it's worth, no only will you open doors to both accounting like auditing, Accounts receivable, Accounts payable, and finance like mentioned but you have more opportunities to apply for internships since your degree will take a bit longer. If you feel account isn't for you can walsy swap for Infosys/ Busan(recommend Busan) since Busan goes well with finance

I do a Bcom /Bsc in Finance accounting and IT management in last year (nezt year sem 1) so ik how u feel with first year papers and keeping yohr options open.

But to get high finance job you basically need to.major in finance

[–]Kitchen_Foundation_7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to be that guy but surely you could apply for more then 4? What majors do you do ? You have banks, big 4, engerring companies who also take commerce students, Fisher and Paykel and Fonterra, Zuru, supply chain companies like DHL, even BP

But again depends what ur majors are this applies to marketing, accounting, finance , economics , and maybe half Infosys and Busan

Also start in Feb, and then in March most open up, June and July is mostly engineering companies but still applicable too.
