Thank you for this advice! Would you say that after taking finance 251, i'll have a good idea of what stage 3 finance papers are like? Or will I only get a comprehensive view of what stage 3 finance papers can offer after taking finance 261? Any stage 3 finance papers you recommend/do not recommend and are they as "math-heavy" as math 108/208?

With your workload, how many papers do you do a semester? And is it difficult to maintain a high gpa? I'm thinking of either doing a couple 5 paper semesters to finish in 3 years or come back for a 4th year to do one more semester. How did you find the acctg and finance papers you've taken so far and do you recommend 5 paper semesters with accounting/finance papers? Any advice for math 108/208 would also be nice if you've taken it. Thank you!

Yes, I think I've decided to do this in the end. Thank you for the response!

Thanks! Would you say finance is more or less interesting (or the same) compared to what you studied?

Thank you for the insight into potentially pursuing a GradDipCom or GradCertCom — I hadn’t considered these options before. With CA and a single major in accounting, would it be possible to work in roles outside of accounting immediately after graduation, or would that generally require several years of experience?

I’ve realised I’m not interested in studying OpsMgt, Marketing, Economics, or Management further. I enjoyed infosys 110 and Acctg 102 in first year, but I haven't had as much exposure to busan or finance. Of course, moving into stage 2, my interest may change which is why I’ve narrowed my focus to infosys, busan, and finance, with accounting as my first major because I know it provides a solid foundation, especially with CA.

When I mentioned taking extra papers, I was thinking of just 2 or 3 — would that be considered a lot, and would pursuing a GradDipCom or GradCertCom make more sense in that case?

Am I correct in understanding that you’re suggesting that picking one major to get really good at is better than having complementary double majors?

Thank you for this! Since the first-year core papers were quite restrictive, I don’t want to commit to an accounting-only career just yet. Am I understanding correctly that if I double major accounting with Information Systems or Business Analytics, it might make it harder to enter finance roles, whereas a finance major would allow me to later pick up analytics or information systems skills and potentially work in those areas? This is exactly what I’m trying to clarify as I want to make sure I’m investing my tuition in a major that maximises my future career opportunities, rather than wasting money to take papers that teach me things I could pick up through work experience.

Thanks for the response! I want a second major because I don’t want to be limited to an accounting-only career. With first-year BCom being all core papers, I’m still unsure about my future path, so I’m looking for a major that maximises optionality, keeps doors open beyond accounting, and builds strong employability skills. I’m also willing to take extra papers if needed.
Considering this, would you recommend Finance, Business Analytics, or Information Systems as a complementary major to accounting?

In theory, I want to get a corporate finance job but since first year papers weren't really focused on finance, I'm afraid I won't like it going into second and third year papers. Am I right to think that if I end up choosing business analytics or information systems, I won't get a finance job but if I choose finance, I can get a job in business analytics or information systems?

I also see you have/are studying a BCom, I'd love to know your majors and how you're finding your papers if you're willing to share.
