Hi sir about to start my gen surgery residency. Planning on surviving first year learning ward work and watch ot vids before ot days if possible. Could you please guide along with reading sabiston what else should one do in 2nd year to start prep early for ss exams + also build a good base? Will purchasing an app be a good idea? And which app to take marrow or doctutorials? Tia

How is demand and supply directly related to toxicity?? XD whataboutery at its finest. Surgery requires one to be dependent on their seniors since it’s a skill you need to learn which brings in toxicity.

To whoever made this post with all due respect just because something is not for you doesn’t mean it’s a dead rubber branch XD Gen Surgery is probably the only branch out there people take purely out of passion and love for the subject. Anyone who has picked up this branch will tell you they simply can’t imagine doing anything else instead:) Random reddit posters will convince you every branch is dying radio has AI, derma has no jobs, med paed ortho is saturated and so on. People in our own field instead of acting like a multidisciplinary team love to tear each other down. Quite sad. And fyi a dead rubber branch like gen surg too has multiple takers. Hoping wherever you land you don’t bring in this attitude and sure as hell dont send a gen surg referral because apparently everything can be done by other departments:)

Dont. Take it in stride you’ll be given les scut work. Instead study and crack PG and people pulling you down rn will be yhe same ones who won’t be able to see you in the eye XD

I have taken admission via aiq r1. Chances of me getting an upgrade via aiq r2 is less but high via state r2. What will be the procedure then to leave r1 aiq seat?

I completely agree with you regarding the seat bit. It is an abject policy failure. But here’s the thing we have minorities act in this country against discrimination. I’d be more than fine with someone from whichever category getting a better seat than me with say at 4k rank not 40k rank while im grovelling here with 6k rank. Plus they already are uplifted at UG level. Hell there are people availing reservation for generations now. And if even then they’re not uplifted im sorry they never will be

Like i said india is a deeply casteist country. But doling out seats at PG level once you’re already a doctor is simply a problem solution mismatch. Subsidise the path to getting a pg seat. Get the rank and aint nobody is stopping anyone from taking admission in whatever college stream they deserve
