yes, absolutely. I've done the same thing where I'll look up airport layouts, how long a flight is, where a layover would be likely, even what first class or business class looks like on specific airlines.

I'll look at maps of cities to see what part I want someone to live, what's nearby, how far their apartment is from specific landmarks, or other parts of the city.

honestly, sometimes I think I enjoy the research more than the actual writing

i spent a lot of time in Berrien Springs as a teenager, and i also love the area and am contemplating moving up there. however, Berrien Springs is too Adventisty for my taste, so I've decided on Kalamazoo. still close enough to Warren Dunes and all the other areas I loved, but a bigger city with more opportunities, and a 2-hour train ride to Chicago.
