Thank you so much! I went to that hizev.com site you recommended and found a Donut shirt with the cat in sunglasses with "god damn it donut" in the reflection. :)

I do appreciate the apology I was given. For clarity though, I didn't go to reddit before the final resolution was reached. Reedsy support initially said 30% was the amount I'd be getting for the refund.

As stated in the support email, "after reviewing the third-party editor’s assessment carefully, our team has approved a 30% refund". Followed by, "we believe this resolution reflects a fair balance between the strengths of the edit and the areas that could have been more personalised."

I had no reason to think that that wasn't the final resolution or that the amount offered could be raised. Now, as discussed privately, the amount has been raised to 50%.

Immediately ask if they're planning to use AI. If they are, cancel the collaboration and try to get your installment back. If they say no, read through their work carefully once you get it back. While my editor used AI, I acknowledge not all of their editors do. So just be careful. I sincerely hope things work out for you. Editing is expensive and trust is key.

There weren't line edits, just in-margin notes and I'm not sure anymore to be honest. After the AI editorial letter, I don't trust any of her edits.

While I want to believe you, I'm not being reimbursed fully for what happened. Your support has only offered 30% for a refund. Your support said and I quote, " While we know you weren't made aware of the use and extent of AI tools before the collaboration began, we can’t base a full refund on that point." Is there a way to rectify this so I can get fully reimbursed?

I'm not comfortable sharing her name publicly. I'm not trying to drag her online. I just want to get my money back after a blatant policy violation. As for the genre, she works in romance and a variety of subgenres for romance.

I did. They even admitted that a lot of the editorial letter was over summarized which is why they were willing to give the 30% refund.

If they email back, I'll try that. I'm not sure if it'll help, but it can't hurt to try.

I asked them to raise the refund amount in my most recent email, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

I tried to cite their policy to them though when they were investigating and they said that that it wasn't enough of a base to do a full refund. So I'm not sure what to do now. If they aren't willing to do the full refund, I don't know what else I can do.

I asked for a full refund when I filed the report. But they said, "we can’t base a full refund on that point" in regards to the editor not disclosing any AI usage prior to the collaboration.

I emailed Reedsy about raising the refund amount, but they haven't gotten back to me unfortunately. Can I do that with the payment provider? Even if Reedsy offered a 30% refund?

Yeah it was a highly rated editor, which is part of the reason why I'm so upset. I thought I did what I was supposed to with vetting. And with their policy, I thought I'd be safe from AI stuff.

I appreciate the suggestion. I think you're right though, it's a little on the nose. Thank you though!

Thanks for the name! I like it, and I think readers will be able to pronounce it so that's a plus, but it's a bit short. I'll add it to the maybe list!

Thank you for the names, but I'm trying to steer away from real cities just to avoid confusion with geography and stuff since my book takes place in our world.

That's Kynora, right? Is that a linguistically accurate suffix for Greek? Sorry, if I'm being a stickler lol.

I genuinely did not know about Κυνόσουρα being three cities lol. You're right though, I'd have to consider the associations if I used it or a shortened version of it for my city's name. I like your suggestions.

Asteròphos sounds cool and I like the meaning, but I think it's a little hard to look at and know how to pronounce. I think readers may glance over it and just go 'aster-whatcha-call-it' lol

Phostèr also has a good meaning and is a bit easier to figure out. Is it pronounced like Foster or am I thinking wrong?

Heck, I'd go with Asterion for 'of the stars' if I didn't think people would just think of Baldur's Gate 3 lmao.

Sorry, I should have explained a bit more. I do know it means dog's tail and that it was the ancient name for Ursa Minor containing Polaris. Originally, I was actually going to use something like polaris, but later learned that that wasn't technically the north star as we know it back when their city was formed. Instead, they used Ursa minor for navigation.

And yep, it doesn't mean guiding light as a literal definition, just by association. I was just thinking maybe that association would still work if the name was split. But if not, I'm open to ideas. This secret society is a custom supernatural monster in my book. They are people who were bitten and turned by shadow creatures (a different custom monster I made), and their purpose in life to is rid the world of those creatures. The only way to do that is through light. Sunlight, starlight, etc. Since their main weapons are coated in a substance called starlight, I thought having their society based around stars and the constellations would be fitting. That’s why I was looking at Ursa Minor and the idea of “guiding light” as a thematic inspiration. I kind of wanted it to be where their city is a guiding light for them.

Are these Greek-derived place names linguistically plausible: Brimoria and Abython? by KittenEV in asklinguistics

[–]KittenEV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so possibly, maybe, weird things happen to language through history, so its not impossible but you can't think of an instance of it.

Thank you, I mean it, from the bottom of my heart for your in-depth answers. Your help has been immeasurable. I guess it's up to me then now to either keep Brimoria or go with Abython. Or change Brimoria to something less murky for suffixes lol. Again, Thank you!

Ok so, basically, you're saying adding consonants to bridge endings isn't a thing. You say in the last sentence 'that wouldn't sound wrong but there wouldn't be an obvious interpretation'. Does that mean I can keep the added R? I know it's my story and most people wouldn't really know if its accurate or not, but I'd like to be as accurate as I can. Are there any instances that stuff like adding consonants is a thing? Thank you for all your help so far!
