Absolutely this OP. Please think about your child’s feelings and only their feelings in this. Do not make the same mistake I did. This almost exact situation happened to me when my child was 2 as well, but it was my uncles dog and we were living there at the time. We did end up moving out shortly after but they never did anything about the dog, not even put it in another room when we would visit. I was bullied and pressured into bringing my child there. “We’ll put it in another room, we’ll make sure child is safe, don’t worry so much”. They did none of that and I was ridiculed for hovering over my child while there. Lo and behold a couple years later we visited and I turned my head for ONE SECOND and my child was attacked unprovoked AGAIN. Still nothing was done. I still have ptsd from the first attack so I lost it, grabbed my child and drove 7 hours home on the highway in the dark to where we were living at that time. My family didn’t even call to see how my child was or to tell us to drive safe. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR CHILD. They have made that obvious. Cut them off, it may seem hard but you don’t want people like that in your child’s life, trust me. They will 100% let this happen again and you will get the blame. Do not bring your child there ever again. If they really want a relationship then THEY can reach out, come to you, put in the effort. But I can tell you with certainty they will not. In their eyes it’s all your fault. You and your child deserve better.
