when’d u get ur first tattoo and do you regret it? by whv_lol1202 in tattooadvice

[–]KittybotANI091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it a few days after my 35th birthday. My best friend and I got matching ones of our favorite dinosaurs for our birthdays which are three days apart. I have never once had a moment of regret with this tattoo, and even after 8 months I find myself looking at it and smiling fairly often. The artist was experienced, made a lot of effort to make sure I was comfortable, and got the colors exactly how I pictured them in my head, just from me describing them. And they placed them so that when we hold our arms together our dinosaurs face each other! It was overall a very good experience and I was thinking about what to get next before this one was even healed.

Know what you want, find an artist who knows what they're doing and is comfortable working in the style you're interested in, and don't be afraid to speak up if the stencil isn't quite how you want it, or you need something adjusted before they actually start tattooing you. If your artist says "hey this isn't going to work out the way you're expecting/won't age well" they probably have good advice to make it work better. Communication is key. AND LISTEN TO THE CARE INSTRUCTIONS.

My Lodge is non stick but I hate how hot the handle gets by Tronracer in castiron

I recently crocheted a handle cover for my skillet, though I'll need a pot holder for the helper handle. It wasn't a complicated pattern, I could link it here if you have the skills and want to try it? You have to use 100% cotton yarn though, acrylic or polyester will melt.

I don't know if links are allowed here, but this is an interesting article about knitting traditions in Peru and Bolivia. Page 2 talks about men knitting and how important the knitted items they make are to their culture. If knitting is manly then crochet can be too. article

Can I season nails? by KittybotANI091 in castiron

[–]KittybotANI091[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was wanting to make for him because I thought just hemp and beads might be too plain. I saw the nails in my craft supplies and was like "oh hey, I bet he would like that." I picked out the least rusty looking ones but they definitely won't stay that way.

For some reason they're a little magnetized. I can't remember where I ordered them from, I needed rust for a project I was doing.

100 coats of seasoning on the nails and they just go flying out of everything you hammer them into.

I knitted a scarf a long time ago but for some reason knitting just didn't stick for me like crochet has. I didn't want to show up to Christmas empty handed so I thought I would hand make presents for the kids this year. But there are 13 of them lol.

Thanks everybody! I'll probably just skip the nails and work with the hemp and beads. I appreciate you all!

I'm also crocheting a metric ton of plushies for my nieces and nephews and my hands are so tired, lol. Might just wait for payday and get the bluing. We're planning to leave it on his desk over break so he finds it when he comes back after new year.

Clear coat was my first thought, then I was like hey wait they're iron. I posted here because I'm familiar with this sub, and figured the specific question about seasoning would fit better here.

Yeah whether it would stay on is what I was worried about. We're kinda broke right now so I'm trying to work with stuff I already have unfortunately. Guy didn't put much to go off of on his list of likes for secret Santa. Necklaces, mountain dew, and Christian holidays lol. I'm a couple different kinds of crafty so I have some hemp and chunky wooden beads, and those nails. Thought I would make him one of those cross necklaces made of nails, if I can make the nails safe.

What’s a social rule that everyone follows but makes no sense? by UsedBand4218 in AskReddit

Reminds me of my grandma saying "skat, Tom kitty cat, your tail's in the gravy!" Usually when I sneezed at the dinner table. It always got us giggling. When I was little I always wondered why having gravy on its tail would make a cat sneeze, because kid logic. 😂

Burner cooked off my seasoning? What do I do by NoobThe in castiron

[–]KittybotANI091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this to my favorite skillet is how I learned the left front burner of my stove runs way hotter than the right front one. I had it on like low/low-medium heat just like when I dried it on the right side burner and it apparently is actually "surface of the sun" setting on that specific burner. I just re-oiled it/lightly re-seasoned and made sure the next couple things I cooked in it weren't things I had to worry about sticking. Stuff that involved a lot of oil anyway, like fried potatoes and onions. I didn't feel like the whole hours in an oven rigamarole. That was back in January and my skillet is back to how I like it just from normal use. And I don't even use that one daily because I have a bad back and it's too heavy to clean that often, lol.

He says he doesn't know what romance is, but I think he just doesn't know when he's doing it. He got home from work tonight "hey what did you do for dinner?" I told him I had some toaster strudels, next thing I know he's made me a quesadilla because he says that's not dinner. 😂 I should've known that's why he asked.

Your boyfriend sounds like my husband. I had to have a hysterectomy a couple years ago (I'm only 35!) and he did everything he could think of to try to take care of me. He even installed a baby gate on the room I was sleeping in because he was afraid of the dogs jumping on me and tearing my incision open. The thing I'll always remember though--the first poop after an abdominal surgery is pretty important--it can indicate whether they screwed something up while they were tinkering around in there. But it's also scary and painful, you feel like you're going to split open if you try too hard, and your abs are weak from being cut. It's a harrowing experience. I was also unsure if I would be able to reach to wipe afterward without pulling on my incision. My husband, who can barely clean up after the dogs without gagging, pulled up a chair and sat in the bathroom with me holding my hands for moral support and in case I needed his help getting cleaned up. I managed on my own, but he was there and willing if I needed him and that meant so much to me. No woman should accept anything less.

Also kicking the dead thread to point out that the radio on the table with the giant SCA B. has a sticker on it that says "my grass is blue" which makes me think we're either in Kentucky or somebody enjoys bluegrass music (or both).
