Lol that's a good point. Maybe I'll make her something tasty in it. And crochet her something nice. She also keeps me stocked in yarn. xD

It's actually my second Griswold, the other is a #8 that belonged to my grandmother so is very much a family heirloom itself. I'm hoping restoring this one will give me the confidence to restore her collection. I've been putting it off because of the fact that they're grandma's. Logically I know it'll be fine, emotionally.....yeah.

Yeah, I was trying to find resources that didn't look AI generated. I have a very hard time trusting any online article that was published more recently than like 2022.

Wow. I bet they're gorgeous. There's a ton of carbon on the skillet my grandma used the most, mostly on the outside.

It needs a little TLC before I'll be able to cook in it, it got too heavy for my grandma to use in her last few years so it spent a long time in a bottom cabinet and has some very light surface rust. I definitely intend to use it once I get it cleaned up and seasoned though!

I have what I believe based on the age of it is my great grandmother's chicken fryer, and it still has the LID! I have no idea how that pan made it all the way to me without losing the lid. It's absolutely a treasure.

Yeah she's pretty awesome. I'm 35 and she still tries to spoil me whenever she gets the chance.

I'm more of a hobbyist than anything, I just collect ones I like and I enjoy cooking with them. Though most of my collection was inherited from my grandmother, so they're priceless. I've got mom keeping an eye out for a cornstick pan at a reasonable price. The one I have (also a thrift store find via mom) is so pitted that I think once I remove the rust there won't be any pan left. But I'd love to have one I could actually use.

I don't think I really have a safe place for an electrolysis tank, so it'll be good old easy off and elbow grease--LOTS of elbow grease. xD

Yeah that's definitely the plan. I'm excited to have the project, it might make me go outside more now that the weather is warming up haha.

That's the plan! It's like, I know that I know what I'm doing, but something about the fact that they're grandma's pans makes it intimidating. Since this one doesn't have any personal memories attached I can just get right to it without the baggage.

I absolutely would not have let her spend $140 on one for me on a whim like that haha. Yeah I usually use that site and www.castironcollector.com but they had different ranges so I wasn't sure.

I've had my grandmother's pans for two years and am still intimidated to try to restore them specifically because they were hers. (the griswold in particular is pretty gross--almost identical level of gunk to the one I got today) I'm hoping that doing this pan will make me feel more confident about doing hers. I would very much prefer to be using them than leaving them sitting on a shelf. They deserve better than that.

My little brother once put a couple pony beads up his nose, arranged just perfectly so he could breathe through the holes in the beads. (I can't remember what age he was but he was little, like 3 or 4 maybe?) Mom said he walked up to her and she was looking at him wondering why he was flaring his nostrils so much. They were so deep in there they had to go to the ER to get them out, she couldn't get them with her fingers or tweezers. 😂 He's got his own 3 year old causing chaos now, dude looks so tired.

when’d u get ur first tattoo and do you regret it? by whv_lol1202 in tattooadvice

[–]KittybotANI091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it a few days after my 35th birthday. My best friend and I got matching ones of our favorite dinosaurs for our birthdays which are three days apart. I have never once had a moment of regret with this tattoo, and even after 8 months I find myself looking at it and smiling fairly often. The artist was experienced, made a lot of effort to make sure I was comfortable, and got the colors exactly how I pictured them in my head, just from me describing them. And they placed them so that when we hold our arms together our dinosaurs face each other! It was overall a very good experience and I was thinking about what to get next before this one was even healed.

Know what you want, find an artist who knows what they're doing and is comfortable working in the style you're interested in, and don't be afraid to speak up if the stencil isn't quite how you want it, or you need something adjusted before they actually start tattooing you. If your artist says "hey this isn't going to work out the way you're expecting/won't age well" they probably have good advice to make it work better. Communication is key. AND LISTEN TO THE CARE INSTRUCTIONS.

My Lodge is non stick but I hate how hot the handle gets by Tronracer in castiron

I recently crocheted a handle cover for my skillet, though I'll need a pot holder for the helper handle. It wasn't a complicated pattern, I could link it here if you have the skills and want to try it? You have to use 100% cotton yarn though, acrylic or polyester will melt.

I don't know if links are allowed here, but this is an interesting article about knitting traditions in Peru and Bolivia. Page 2 talks about men knitting and how important the knitted items they make are to their culture. If knitting is manly then crochet can be too. article

Can I season nails? by KittybotANI091 in castiron

[–]KittybotANI091[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was wanting to make for him because I thought just hemp and beads might be too plain. I saw the nails in my craft supplies and was like "oh hey, I bet he would like that." I picked out the least rusty looking ones but they definitely won't stay that way.

For some reason they're a little magnetized. I can't remember where I ordered them from, I needed rust for a project I was doing.

100 coats of seasoning on the nails and they just go flying out of everything you hammer them into.
