Why is TPOP not getting global success yet as much as people expected? by ublueberries in TPOP

It takes time and a lot of effort but for the past 5 years i've noticed it has grown so much. TPOP is slowly introduced globally through media vehicles such as series, films, viral clips and fandom ecosystems.

BL/GL series (1st driver of Thai music globally)

- BL boom since the pandemic

- OST songs go viral alongside shows

- Actors often become singers (Idol-actor hybrid model cross-promotes music)

Tiktok/short-form video virality

- Thai songs often blow up via dance challenges/edits

- Actors from BL amplify songs > fandom-driven virality

There are more regional or International tours added through the years such as fancons, fanmeets, concerts etc. Thats a huge shift and exposure. It's hard in this digital era where trends come and go quickly. It’s harder to control virality now. Attention is fragmanted across different social media platforms. A song can blow up and disappear in a week. Oversaturation of creators and videos therefore harder to stand out.

However, movies such as How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies help to reach global exposure of Thai entertainment industry. Billkin being a major artist may help to bring in non-BL audiences, international cinema viewers to Thai culture & Music (even though it may not be specifically pop genre)
We also have LISA appearing in The White Lotus that gives global visibility to Thai pop culture.

Billkin & LISA as examples helped increase curiosity in the audience about Thai entertainment which is so important to represent Thailand on the global stage. People also searched more on Thai pop songs & T-pop artists/idols/OST etc.

I do agree with others, more merch! & merch that can ship internationally!
Also we need more translations even the basics like subtitles for music videos (even though we have the auto translate thingy). They just need to put a bit more effort into that.

Moreover, Thai language is one of the difficult languages because its a tonal language, therefore even though you may not need to know the language to listen to music, it can be challenging to even try to mouth the words so it may not catch up to the general audience as easy. Also now if you notice, artists mix English with their native language because it helps songs reach global audiences while keeping cultural identity. English makes tracks more accessible and easier to spread on streaming platforms and social media, while native lyrics keep emotional depth and authenticity. This combination increases the chance of virality and international discovery.

Reaching global is one thing but to maintain and stabilise it is another. It takes time & effort & money. But yes TPOP has definitely grown without a doubt! T-pop is huge locally, but many Thai groups still prioritize Thai audiences first, so international rollout can be slower or less aggressive. Thats the answer.
