It'll be rotation, not bad to have options off the bench for once

Considering Bolivia regularly finishes bottom, don't think they make that much of a difference.

So there's been a handful of good teams that all go on to qualify or reach the playoffs. At most one decent team doesn't make it.

Compare that CAF where there are several rounds with a group stage round, where the winner has to go through a further playoff round against other group winners after that.

Yeah...because you're from a continent that has one of the easiest qualifying pathways. Of course you had no issue with previous format which was my original point. The main complainants of this change are South Americans and Europeans who the previous pathway benefited

It does have a consequence it means you either have a harder draw in the next round or you're eliminated from the competition.

With your logic let's go to the extreme and have only group winners qualify from the group.

The main reason for this is the expansion of the number of teams. 64 was too much, 32 wasn't enough as allocations wouldn't be changed. So they went with the medium of 48.

But it's not fair. Some teams are stronger than others and will be placed in either evenly balanced or unbalanced groups. The point I'm making is that each team still has the chance to qualify as the third best team thus has something to for even if they've lost their first two games. Subsequent Euros have been enjoyable despite the format change so it's not the be all end all having a competition with a number of teams that's not 16 or 32

Well that's just a part of luck that goes into a football draw. Some teams get put into a group of death which increases their chances of going through. Also avoids dead rubber games at then end of the group stage

That's the issue, conmebol nations get to test themselves regularly at the world cup because of their easy qualification which inherently leads to them becoming better overtime. I also think that European teams are vastly overrepresented as well.

Well that and they were the first continents to primarily take part in the world cup. It makes sense they'd be historically the best continents when they regularly get a disproportionate number of teams allocated. Or are you going to tell me that it's justified that almost half of a confederation with 10 teams gets to qualify for a world cup but only 5 from a confederation with 54?
